Born in Port Morien on Sept 22, 1925, she was the daughter of the late James and Martha ( Currie) Thomas. Although she was always proud to be from Port Morien, she left home to live and work in Ontario at an early age. While there, she met and married Peter E McPhee and began the next adventure, raising her family. Like most Cape Bretoners they wandered back to the Island, spending many years in Reserve Mines but also in Westmount and later years, in Glace Bay nearer to her family. She made solid friendships wherever she called home. Mom ( Theresa) was predeceased by her husband, Peter Emmanuel McPhee; two sons, Mannie and Jimmy; daughter-in-law, Marlene and son-in-law, Andrew Petrie. She came from a large Morien family including her sisters, Margaret (John) MacDonald, Eileen (Terrance) Nearing; brothers, John (Len) Thomas, Vincent ( Gertie) Thomas, Charles (Isabel) Thomas, Joseph (Elizabeth) Thomas, Leo (Lucy) Thomas, Henry (Patricia) Thomas, Bernard (Mel) Thomas, and Michael Thomas. She is survived by her daughter, Theresa Charlene Petrie, Glace Bay; sons, Danny (Nancy) McPhee, Glace Bay, Bernard (Janice) McPhee, Port Morien, Paul McPhee, Reserve Mines, Neil (Kim) McPhee, Ontario, John McPhee, Reserve Mines. Her brother, Bernard; sisters-in-law, Lucy and Elizabeth; daughters- in- law, Lorraine Powers, Ange McPhee, Sylvia Steele and so many more who came to think of her as a friend and mother. To many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren she was Nana and will always be loved and missed by all. As we make our journey through life, we all leave behind impressions. Mom will be remembered as a strong and loving mother, whose door was always open to anybody who stepped through it. Where there was always room at the table and your welcome was never doubted. As her life changed with time, her sharp wit and sense of humour never failed her. She never failed to make us smile and in this, she will be remembered. There will be no visitation at this time and a celebration of her life will occur at a later date yet to be determined.
