Greet was the loving wife of the late Hughie Ferguson. Born in Inverness on September 2nd, 1918, she was the daughter of Jack D. and Annabel (Rankin) Macdonald of Inverness. She was the dear mother of John (Margaret), David (Jeanean), Art, Bruce (Ann), and Anne Marie (Liam) Moylan. Loving and cherished grandmother of Gillian, Rose, Kevin, Eric, Pete, Richard, Joe, Emily, Sean, Kyle, and Erin; and great grandmother of many. Greet was a nursing graduate of St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto. She a served as a navy nurse stationed in St. John's Newfoundland, during WWII. She was predeceased by two brothers Charlie and Donald A. (Freddie) and three sisters Esther (John Murphy), Edith (Bernie Coady), and Willena ‘Billie’ (MacLellan). A funeral Mass was held at St. Sebastian’s Roman Catholic Church in Dearborn Heights, officiated by Fr. Aaron DePeyster. On July 4th, in Inverness, a memorial Mass will be held at Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, with interment to follow, when Greet and Hughie will once again be together. Memorial donations can be made to the Inverness Cemetery Fund. EARLE It is with heavy hearts and great sorrow that we announce the passing of Brent David Earle, age 45, of Margaree on February 7th, 2017. Born in Inverness, he was the son of Edmund and Ann (Murphy) Earle of North East Margaree. Besides his parents, Brent is survived by his wife Debbie (Young) and their children Shaylene Young, Arianna Earle, and Eden Earle, as well as the mother of his children Jaunita Matthews and their children Natasha Matthews, Nathan Matthews, Brittany Matthews, Alissa Matthews, and Emily Matthews; brothers Norman (Mary), Jeffery (Jennifer), and Matthew (Natalie); grandchildren Kyrin Matthews, C.J., Bray, and Emery Matthews, as well as nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Patrick Church, North East Margaree, on Friday, February 17th at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. MacDonald officiating. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of Jim Young. Messages and memorials may be directed to Brent’s family by email at norm.earle@gmail.com <mailto:norm.earle@gmail.com>. “God is our refuge and strength.” BEATON Sister Anna Beaton, age 92, formerly Sister Donalda Maria, a Sister of St. Martha of Antigonish, died at Bethany Motherhouse, on Wednesday, February 8th, 2017. She was in the 72nd year of her religious life. Sister Anna Beaton, baptized Anna Marie Beaton, was born October 12th, 1924, in Inverness, C.B., Nova Scotia. Sister Anna was the daughter of the late Donald Duncan and Mary Margaret (MacIntyre) Beaton of Inverness, N.S. Sister Anna entered the Sisters of St. Martha on February 15th, 1944, pronounced her first vows on February 15th, 1946, and her final vows on August 15th, 1949. Sister ministered in the area of household services for most of her life, and spent several years as Sacristan at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish. She served in household services in Antigonish at Bethany, the Coady International Institute, St. Martha’s Convent, House of Hope, Xavier Community, Faustina Community, and Marian Community; in Cape Breton at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Glace Bay, and Little Flower Institute, Sydney; Mineral Springs Hospital in Banff, AB, and St. Martha’s Catholic Center, Boston, MA, USA. She spent one year in a Renewal Program at Dover, MA. in 1991/92, and was Local Leader in her community 1985/87. Besides her parents, Sister Anna was predeceased by four of her sisters: Sister Dolena, CSM, Sarah, Mary Agnes Beaton, Kaye Kennedy; and two brothers: John Duncan and John Angus. She is survived by one sister Mary Michael Pyne, So. Portland, ME, USA. She also has several nieces and nephews who have been devoted to Sister Anna, and she to them. Sister Anna loved the Scottish Gaelic language and music. She could certainly get her feet moving to any rhythm and dance steps, inviting all to join her. The remains rested at Bethany, beginning on Wednesday, February 15th at 1:15 p.m. A Celebration of Vigil will be held on the same evening at 7:30 p.m. Liturgy of Christian burial will take place on Thursday, February 16th, at 2:00 p.m. in Bethany Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Curry’s Funeral Home, Antigonish, N.S. GILLIS Michael Daniel Gillis, age 73, passed away peacefully in Inverary Manor on February 14th, 2017. Born in Inverness on March 13th, 1943. He was a son of the late John Alexander and Mary Catherine Gillis. He was a member of Stella Maris Church, Inverness. Michael enjoyed hunting and fishing and had a great love for harness racing. Michael is survived by his brothers Howard, Allan (Tish), and Douglas; and sisters Catherine, Louise, and Bernadette. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Michael is predeceased by his brothers Duncan, Raymond, and Brian; and sisters Geraldine and Ann. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Inverary Manor, Inverness. By family request there will be no visitation or funeral Mass.
