Olive passed away very peacefully with her loving family by her side on Tuesday, January 31, 2017. Born in Big Bras d’Or, February 13, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Oliver and Bridget (Gilligan) Douglas and was a long-time member of St. John’s United Church. A quiet, private person, Olive was a very loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, aunt and sister. She resided with her daughter Brenda for the past 28 years where she adored spending time with her granddaughter Beth and doting on her two cats, Baxter and Buffy. Olive is survived by her daughters, Brenda (Bobby) Jackson, Glace Bay and Sandra Hutchison, Sydney; granddaughters, Amanda (Adam) MacNeil, Edmonton, Kim (Paul) Oliveira, Toronto and Beth Jackson, Glace Bay; great grandchildren, Bhreagh, Caleb and Joshua MacNeil and Anderson Oliveira. She will also be sadly missed by her sisters, Mary Ash (Max deceased), Sydney, Shelia Miller, Big Bras d’Or, Nancy Trenholm (Junior deceased), Antigonish, Judy MacLeod (Daniel), Big Bras d’Or; brothers, Claude (Betty), Big Bras d’Or and Brian (Ann deceased), North Sydney. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her husband, Sam; grandson, Mark Ross Jackson; brother, John and son-in-law, Donald Hutchison. In honouring her wishes, there will be no visitation. A funeral service, officiated by Rev. Carol Gillard will be held 11 a.m. today, Friday, February 3, 2017 and will be immediately followed by a reception, all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. Interment will be at a later date in St. James Cemetery, Big Bras d’Or. Family flowers only; memorial donations in Olive’s memory may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County. Online condolences to the family may be expressed at: www.vjmcgillivray.c Priscilla Matilda ‘Babe’ Madore Passed on: February 2nd, 2017 It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Priscilla ‘Babe’ Madore, age 87, announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at the Glace Bay Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Glace Bay and a longtime resident of North Street, she was the daughter of the late Talbot and Mary Florence (LeRoux) Butts. Babe was a resident of Seaview Manor since 2011. In her earlier years, Babe enjoyed playing cards and sitting around the kitchen table with her family and friends and going to card games at St. Leo’s Parish Hall with her husband, Joe. Babe is survived by her daughter, Darlane McKillop, Glace Bay; her son, Nolan Madore (Marion), Ft. McMurray; grandchildren, Shawn McKillop (Felicia), Danielle Sifnakis (James), Nicole Warren, Denette Madore and Colette Madore. Babe was a proud and loving great grandmother to, Charles, Brea, Emma, Liam, Megan, Paulina, Riley, Grace and Connor. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews whom she loved dearly and her best friend, Brenda Somerton. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Madore; grandson, Michael Madore; sisters, Cora MacIsaac, Maisie McPhee; brothers, Daniel, Nolan and Major Butts. In Keeping with Babes wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. There will be no visitation or funeral mass. Graveside committal prayers will be held at a later date in St. Leo’s Cemetery, Glace Bay. John James DeYoung Passed on: February 2nd, 2017 It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, John James DeYoung, age 72, after a brief illness, on Thursday, February 2,2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Arichat, he was the son of Mrs. Idella (Boudreau) Duyon and the late Edward Duyon. He was a patient man, a perfectionist, a jack of all trades and a skilled carpenter which was his labor of love. He always had a project to create a beautiful home for our family. He was an avid photographer. In his younger years, he was a gymnast, a life guard, a dancer and a scuba diver. He was always willing to help anyone in need and to lend a helping hand. Besides his mother, Idella, John is survived by his wife and best friend, Jeanette (Bates) DeYoung; children, Laura (Les), Shawn (Lisa), Jonathan (Natalee) and Jon-Paul; his precious grandchildren, Logan, Rian, Kayden and Stephanie; sister, Jean (Robbie) MacNeil; several nieces and nephews; the extended Bates family, as well as his good friends, Ray, Earl and Curtis. Besides his father, Edward, he was predeceased by his mother and father in-law, Jennie and Paul Bates; sister-in-law, Mary Heald; brother-in-law, Winfred Bates. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 5, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. Jr. Hardy Passed on: January 29th, 2017 It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Brian Paul Hardy Jr., age 40, on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in North Sydney on July 10, 1976, he was the son of Brian (Marie) Hardy, North Sydney and the late Marla (MacLean) King. Brian was a carpenter by trade and worked in the construction industry. He enjoyed spending time on his computer and riding his motorcycle. Brian is survived by his father, Brian Hardy and stepmother, Marie (Bona) Hardy of North Sydney; his daughter, Olivia; one sister, Sheila, North Sydney; niece, Paige; nephew, Cole; uncles, Gordie (Lori) Hardy, Lloyd and Floyd Bona; aunts, Beatrice (Dennis) Jessome, Susan (David) LeMoine and their daughter, Tracey (Larry), and his close friend, Cy Connolly. Mary Pauline Boudreau Born In: New Waterford, Nova Scotia Passed in: Arichat, Nova Scotia Passed on: January 31st, 2017 Mary Pauline Boudreau, 81, of Petit de Grat, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2017 in Arichat, Nova Scotia. Pauline was born in New Waterford, to the late Charlie Joe Gallant and Hélène Gallant (nee Desveaux). Pauline was predeceased recently by her husband, Cyril Joseph Boudreau, married on December 28, 1957 at Mount Carmel church in New Waterford. Pauline attended the Provincial Normal School in Truro, Nova Scotia and pursued a career in teaching. Committed to lifelong learning, Pauline continued with her own education while teaching in schools throughout the region. Pauline instilled these values of learning and betterment with her seven children, giving often of herself to many causes, serving on boards and associations that could improve the community as a whole. Pauline is survived by her children, Joseph (Irene), Celeste McLeod (Brian), Jean (Cathy), Robert (Marie), Suzette Parent (Serge), Danette Beechinor (Troy) and Louise (Lorne). Pauline’s grandchildren are Callum, Pauline, Simon, Raymond, Mary Ellen, Julie, Thomas, Ginette, Michelle, Natalie, Lucien, Sylvie and Simone. Pauline is survived by many brothers and sisters, including Rose Salmons (Gile), Bernie (Frances), Celeste (Phil), Sister Claudette, Thomas, Annette Petrie (late Art), Vince (Dini), Alvin (Colleen) and Andy (late Leona). Pauline was predeceased by her close friend and sister, Margaret (Odillon) as well as her husband’s siblings, George (Zita), Nectaire, Viola Shaw (Doug), and Leona Jabalee (Abe). Visitation will be held in C. H. Boudreau Funeral Home in Arichat Saturday, February 4th, from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will follow at 5 p.m. in St Joseph’s Church in Petit de Grat with Rev. Doug McDonald officiating. Cremation will follow with a joint burial with her husband in the Star of the Sea Cemetery in Petit de Grat at a later date. Martin Cameron Boston Born: June 16th, 1937 Passed in: Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed on: January 30th, 2017 Martin Cameron Boston, age 79 years of Port Hawkesbury formerly of Blues Mills, Inverness Co., passed away on Monday, January 30, 2017 in the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home. Born in Apple River, Cumberland County, on June 16, 1937 he was a son of the late Earl Sinclair and Leona (Cook) Boston. Martin worked for the CNR as a Telegrapher and Bridge Tender. He was a collector of trains; he was one of the pioneers in the forming of the Orangedale Railway Station Museum. He enjoyed reading, cooking and loved all animals especially cats. He was the Commissioner of Oaths for Blues Mills, Orangedale and River Denys and he was a dedicated Boston Bruins fan. Martin is survived by cousins, Victor, Michael (Joanne) and other family members; he was predeceased by his sister, Jean Boston and Robert Cook “Uncle Bob”. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 11, at 2 p.m. in Princeville United Church with Rev. Donna Lovelace officiating. Burial to take place at a later date in the Cameron Cemetery. Ray Mc Neil Passed in: London, Ontario, Canada The family of Ray Mc Neil, formerly of Glace Bay, sadly announces his death at St. Joe's Hospice in London, ON. He attended Holy Cross and St Michael's school. He was predeceased by parents, Hilda (O'Handley) Mc Neil, Bill Mc Neil and brother, Frank. He is survived by wife, Norma Jean; children, Ray Jr (London) April (Vancouver); grandchildren, Emily, Matthew and Megan; brothers, Lorne (Millie) of Sask. and brother, Bill (Stella) of Halifax. Cremation took place in London, ON.
