Son of the late Leonard and Martha Musgrave. Beloved husband and best friend of Paulette; father of Laura (Darren); stepfather of Michelle (Harry), David (Shelly) and Michael. Survived by several grandchildren and nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on February 10, St. Mary’s Church, Frenchvale 7 p.m., with a social gathering to follow at the Frenchvale Fire Hall. Douglas Kenney Hopkins It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Doug Hopkins, 53, on February 3, 2017. Born in Port Morien, he was the son of the late Brad and Ruth Hopkins. Dougie will always be remembered as a loving father, caring man and a hard worker with a great sense of humour. He was employed as a truck driver, labourer and manager at the family business, H. Hopkins Ltd., for the majority of his life before moving to Innisfail, Alberta where he worked as a Machinist. Doug enjoyed kayaking, going on impromptu road trips and “finding the deals” at local yard sales. He was especially proud when he went skydiving for his 50th Birthday. He lived life to the fullest. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 26 years, Ria; his girls, Erica (Matthew) and Liz (Justin); brothers, Donald (Dawn) and Davey Hopkins; sisters, Louise (Gilbert) Ferguson, Edie (Brendan) Shaw and Sheila (Irvin); mother-inlaw, Thelma Pronk and by his nieces, nephews and extended family. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother, Eric; father-in-law, John Pronk and nephew, Tyler Pronk. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Our sister and aunt Maurina passed away peacefully on February 2, 2017 at the Harbourstone Nursing Home in Sydney River. Born in Reserve Mines on May 25, 1926 to Henry and Mary Jane (Kanary) Marsh, she taught school for many years in Reserve, including serving as principal of Tompkins Memorial Elementary School. She constantly demonstrated her love of children through simple acts such as bringing sandwiches to school for children who had little or nothing. Maurina dedicated her life to the service of others, in particular her mother Mary Jane and her family. Maurina is survived by her sisters, Zita and Marie; brothers, Gannon (Brother Ninian), Fr. Anthony and Joseph and many nieces and nephews. Maurina was predeceased by her brothers, Joseph, James, Alphonse, Dennis, Sylvester, Henry, Stewart and Coady and sisters, Mary Ann, Dolores, Dophie and Gilbert. DAY, Vivian Irene It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and sister, Vivian Irene Day, on Friday, February 3, 2017, at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by her family, after a brief illness. Born in Mose Ambrose, Newfoundland on November 7, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Hilda (Knott) Day. In her early adulthood, she relocated to North Sydney and soon thereafter started a family. Years later, when the youngest of her five children started school, Vivian joined the workforce, employed with Sobeys for many years. Mom loved her grandchildren. Being called “Nan” was her greatest life accomplishment. Edith Mary Leon Passed in: Sydney Passed on: February 7th, 2017 Edith Mary Leon (93) passed away February 7, 2017 at the Celtic Court, Sydney. Born in St. Lawrence Newfoundland to the late Tom and Mary Tobin. Edith is survived by daughter, Jeannette (Mel) Neville, Sydney, Diane Carson, Sydney and son, Fred, L'Ardoise. Mary Emma Doucette Passed on: February 6th, 2017 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Emma Doucette, 99 of Sydney, on Monday, February 6, 2017 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility. Born in Cap LeMoine, NS, she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret LeBlanc. She was a member of St. Joseph’s parish and a member of the C.W.L. for over 50 years. She was instrumental in helping create the banners for Mass for Shut Ins and worked on numerous other banners for various organizations. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by children, Sharon (Gordon) Roach, Woodstock, NB, Beverly Doucette, Sydney, Raymond (Catherine) Doucette, Halifax, Kevin (Elizabeth) Doucette, Oakville, ON; grandchildren, Mary James, Lynn Stewart, Jen Pepin, Laurie Doucette, Danielle Doucette, Suzanne Doucette; great grandchildren, Zoe James, Sasha James, Jackson Pepin, Maddison Pepin, Emma Stewart and Lily Knight.
