Born in Glace Bay he was the son of the late Arthur and Muriel MacLeod. In his early years he was employed with DEVCO, then he was known as one of the town’s Gravediggers and being a handyman in his garage. Mucker also enjoyed his time with his close friends. Surviving are his wife, Kimberly Weatherbee; sister-in-law, Cyndie Wheatherbee; brother-in-law, Todd (Tammy) Wheatherbee and many of his cousins. Visitation for Mucker will be held on Friday February 3, 2017 from 7-9 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home 71Union St Glace Bay. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday February 4, 11 a.m. in Patten Funeral Home Chapel. Burial to take place at a later date in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Melvin Clyde Sangster Born: January 18th, 1953 Passed on: January 13th, 2017 A memorial service will be held to celebrate the life and work of Melvin Sangster on Saturday, February 4th at 1 p.m. in the TJ Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists Memorial Chapel, 370 Reserve Steet, Glace Bay. The service will be led by Pastor Scott Chandler, assisted by Pastor Philip Woodill. Melvin, known to many as ‘Grandfather’ or ‘Dad’ passed away peacefully at home on January 13, 2017. He was born on January 18, 1953 to parents, Floyd and Elva (Wright). Sixteen years ago Melvin and his wife Hazel moved to Glace Bay, NS to run Harvest House Outreach Centre. Over the course of those years, he made a difference in many lives throughout the Maritimes, quietly and faithfully providing meals, groceries, furniture, clothing, taxi drives, emotional support and counselling with genuine care and compassion. It is well known that he would do all he could to help anyone in need. Melvin is survived by his loving wife, Hazel; his children, Melvin (Sonya), Sabrina Sangster (Jayme Cuzzort), Nathanael (Tarra Aubie) and Leah Sangster (Jason Amos); mother, Elva Sangster; brothers, Miles (Viola), Clayton (Grail); 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many more honorary family members. He was predeceased by his father, Floyd; sister, Bernice, of Nelson BC and a brother in infancy, Melvin will fondly be remembered for his unwavering love and dedication to Harvest House in Glace Bay and surrounding areas. CECIL "SONNIE" THIEL Born In: GLACE BAY, Nova Scotia Born: March 10th, 1936 Passed in: SYDNEY, Nova Scotia Passed on: February 1st, 2017 We, the family of Cecil “Sonnie” Thiel, regret to announce his passing on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney. Born March 10, 1936, in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Treige) Thiel. Sonnie was a truck driver in Louisbourg and later, drove a school bus in Mira. Left to mourn are his loving companion of 21 years, Frances MacNeil; sons, Barrie and Derrick; daughters, Tracie and Laurie; sisters, Florence Breski and Betty Crocker. Sonnie was predeceased by his first wife, Mary (Turner); second wife, Barbara (Burgess); a daughter in infancy; sisters, Ann Weatherbee, Margie Walker and Hattie Bateman; brother, John Thiel. A memorial service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday 2 p.m., with Mr. Gary Grant officiating. Interment in Loch End Cemetery, Catalone. Joan MacNeil Born: October 29th, 1936 Passed on: January 31st, 2017 On January 31, 2017 we lost a very special lady when Joan (MacInnis) MacNeil passed peacefully at Harbourstone, (Spanish Bay) in Sydney. Born October 29, 1936, she was the daughter of the late John M. and Elizabeth (MacNeil) MacInnis. Joan graduated from Holy Angels and completed a commercial program at Mount Saint Bernard. She worked at several businesses in Sydney and Toronto. She was later employed with Catholic Charities when she was involved with the placement of orphaned babies, this was a vocation Joan truly loved. Eventually, Joan attended St. Francis Xavier and spent the remainder of her working career teaching business at Sydney Academy. In 1982 Joan married Steve MacNeil; he brought Joan into a kind and caring family who loved her dearly. Joan and Steve spent many wonderful years together and loved visiting Florida for a winter break. Joan was a positive, cheerful person who enjoyed the simple things in life such as playing music, dancing, skating, playing bridge, sewing and baking treats for family. Joan had a great love of animals and owned several furry pets over her lifetime. She was an active member of Sacred Heart parish and a member of the CWL. Joan will be dearly missed by her sister, Kathleen ‘Kay’ McIntosh and will be remembered and cherished by her six step-children, Gerard (Carol), Stephanie (Edwin), Nadine, Frank (Cathy), Elayne and Brendan (Lisa) as well as her grandchildren, David, Michael, Christopher, Alex, Andrew, Beth, Scott, Stephanie, Chelsey, Paulina, David, Meghan and Margaret. Joan will also be missed by her nieces, Jane, Elizabeth, Patricia, Mary Ellen, Francis, Sheila, Patricia, Joan, Jackie and nephews, Michael, Bernard, John and David. She is also survived by and will be fondly remembered by her sister-in-law, Dorothy MacInnis. She was predeceased by her husband, Stephen; her sister, Anna; brothers, Donnie ‘Farmer’ and Angus ‘Porky’. As per her wishes, there will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 3, 2017 at St. Theresa's church with Fr. Alex MacLellan officiating. Inurnment at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. We would like to thank the staff at Parkland Cape Breton as well as Harbourstone (Spanish Bay) for their exceptional support and kindness towards Joan.
