Wendell (65) left this life on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at the Glace Bay Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Reserve Mines, he was the son of the late Angus and Kaye (McIvor) McNeil. Following his education at St. FX, he enjoyed a 32 year career as a dedicated teacher with the CB District School Board until his retirement in 2006. In their retirement, Wendell and Shelly spent several winters in Florida at Melody Gardens in St Petersburg where they were surrounded by and always enjoyed the company of many friends. He enjoyed many rounds of golf with his buddy’s and of course always happy to go for a walk, no matter the weather or his condition; moving forward chanting ‘One Day at a time’. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 40 years, Shelly; son, Mathew and daughter, Jan (Mike) Brewer; the light of his life, grandchildren, Sarah B, Malachai, Hannah, Sunni and Daisy; brothers, Angus, Milton, Bruce (Kelly) and Bradley (Paula); sisters, Glenda Fournier, Karen Howarth, Chris (Larry) Boutlier and Priscilla (Mike) MacDonald; serval nieces and nephews and members of the Gardiner family. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2017 at St. Josephs Parish, Reserve Mines, followed by a celebration of his life at the T.J. Marguerite ‘Sis’ MacLellan Passed on: March 1st, 2017 The family of Marguerite ‘Sis’ MacLellan, 90, of Big Pond sadly announces her passing on March 1, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Visitation will take place from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, March 3 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 4 at St. Mary’s Church, Big Pond. Denise Elise Gillis Passed on: February 25th, 2017 It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Denise Gillis, 85, of London, Ont. and formerly of New Waterford on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Chelsey Park Long-Term Care Facility, London, Ont. Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Elise (Gerard) Porquet. Denise was a member of the former St. Michael's Parish, currently the Parish Church of St. Leonard. Denise was a homemaker in every sense of the word. She enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting (her table cloths and runners were evident throughout the house), fabric painting, gardening and of course cleaning. Most of all, she loved her girls and they loved her. They travelled the world together and on some journeys, backpacked throughout Europe, which in turn solidified their loving bond towards one another. She will truly be missed by all. Surviving are daughters, Elise Rudderham, Red Deer, Alta., Linda (Wendy) Gillis - Davidson, Bracebridge, Ont., Brenda Gillis (Doug), London, Ont.; brothers, Charlie and Henry; sisters, Regina and Carmen; grandchildren, Megan, Noahh, Hugh, Krystal and Caitlyn and six great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Hugh; one son, Hugh, in infancy; two brothers, Benny and Louie; one sister, Martha. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford, with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, River Ryan, with a luncheon to follow in the funeral home. Donations in her memory may be made to the Cape Breton SPCA. ABRAHAM PETER MURRAY Passed in: SYDNEY, Nova Scotia Passed on: February 21st, 2017 Funeral service for the late Abraham Peter Murray, age 97, who passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at the Cove Guest Home, Sydney, will be held at United Heritage Church on Saturday, March 4 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Rosemary Godin officiating. Following the service, a fellowship will be held in the church hall. Interment in the Princeville United Church Cemetery at a later date. Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca SARAH 'SALLY' 'DIDDY' DOYLE Born In: Bedford, Nova Scotia, Canada Born: September 1st, 1923 Passed in: SYDNEY, Nova Scotia Passed on: March 28th, 2017 It is with great sadness we announce the death of our Mother, Sarah ‘Sally/Diddy’ Doyle in Bedford, NS and formerly of Coxheath, Cape Breton on February 28th 2017. She was 93 years old. She was a woman who lived a long and healthy life. Mom was born on September 1st 1923 in Sydney NS to Roderick and Mary (MacNeil) MacDonald, Glebe Avenue. She is survived by a sister, Dolena MacMillan, Coxheath; her children, Brian (Suzanne Varley), Halifax, Blair (Sharon Parks), Dartmouth and Dorothy (Don Lutz), Fall River. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Doyle-Willis, Chris Lutz, Catherine Lutz (Natashia, Anthony); great-grandchildren, (twins) Peter and Jack Lutz and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Mom was predeceased by brothers, Roddie (Niki), Stevie and Angus MacDonald and a sister in infancy. Mom attended Sacred Heart Parish and Holy Angels Convent in Sydney. She married Dad, Lloyd ‘Buff’ Doyle at Sacred Heart Church on September 11th 1945. They lived for many years in O’Neil’s Court, Sydney and for several years in Goose Bay, Labrador where Dad was employed by Trans Canada Airlines (TCA) now known as Air Canada. On their return to Cape Breton, Mom and Dad settled in their new home in Coxheath. Mom was employed at Crowell’s Dept. Store and often recanted stories from her work life in the China/Housewares Dept. Mom and Dad were avid TV viewers never missing a TV hockey or baseball game. They enjoyed their many trips to Iona where Mom also spent her summers at her parent’s bungalow. The joy of card playing was handed down from her parents to her and then to her children and grandchildren. Mom was a devote Roman Catholic and churchgoer being a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Sydney River NS and St. Rose of Lima Parish, Fall River NS. After Dad’s death (2003), Mom moved to Bedford in 2006 to be near her children and grandchildren while enjoying her view from Waterfront Drive. There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 4th, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church with Rev. Bill Burke officiating.
