Born in Georgetown, PEI, she was the daughter of the late William and Maud (Henry) Hobbs. She graduated from the PEI School of Nursing in Charlottetown, PEI in 1952 and nursed in Charlottetown, PEI, Halifax, NS, and Sydney, NS. Elinor is survived by her daughter, Marjorie (Jim) Taylor, Stillwater Lake N.S.; sons, David (Dianne), St. Peter’s, Douglas (Clara), Whitehorse, YT., Kim (Yvette), Prince George B.C., Peter (Linda), Sudbury Ont., Bruce (Sharon), Riverview NB. Elinor is also survived by her grandchildren, Kristopher, Katrina, Thomas, Amy, Traci, Jennifer, Scott, Bradley, Emily, Mike, and Katie and great-grandchildren, Ryan, Breina and Kelsey. . She was predeceased by her husband, soul mate and love of her life, the late Douglas H. Rutherford. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Arnold, William (Bill) and Albert (Bob) Hobbs. Visitation for Elinor will be on Sunday, March 5, 2017 from 7-9 p.m. in the SW Chant and Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 6, 2017, at 2 p.m. at the Sydney River United Protestant Church, 1524 King’s Rd., Sydney River, with Rev. Dana Feltmate officiating. A spring Interment to take place at Alfred E. Smith Cemetery, Sydney Forks. Anne Marie Lelandais Born: February 27th, 2017 Anne Marie Lelandais nee McMullin, of Grand Lake Road, passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Monday, February 27, 2017. Born in Glace Bay in 1934, she was the daughter of the late Alec and Florence McMullin. She was employed until her retirement as a bookkeeper with Tops Supermarket. She was also a volunteer quilter with Red Cross and an avid bridge player, as well as enjoying many types of crafts. Anne is survived by her daughter, Michelle (Wayne) Flynn of Howie Centre; her granddaughters, Kyla (Don) Findlay and Keely (Dan) Messenger and her cherished great grandchildren, Declan, Haven and Adaira Findlay and Ivy, Poppy and Holly Messenger, all of Calgary; sister, Judy McMullin of Glace Bay; sisters-in-law, Phyllis McMullin, Gatha McMullin and Linda McMullin and nieces and nephews. Predeceasing Anne were her husband of 61 years, Henry ‘Frenchy’; son, Michael; two sons in infancy and brothers, Gerard, Angus, Sandy and Daryl. Visitation will take place on Saturday, March 4 from 2-3 p.m. with funeral service and reception to follow at 3 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. RONALD 'RON' ASSOUN Born In: SYDNEY, Nova Scotia Born: November 1st, 1940 Passed in: SYDNEY, Nova Scotia Passed on: March 1st, 2017 It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Ronald ‘Ron’ Assoun, 76, of Sydney. Ron peacefully passed away with his loving family by his side on March 1, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Sydney on November 1, 1940, Ron was the son of the late Reginald ‘Reg’ and Helen (O’Day) Assoun. He worked for the Halifax Metro and Sydney Transit Cape Breton as a bus driver for many years. Ron was known for his great sense of humour, definitely one of a kind. He loved going for long walks in the woods and driving on the four-wheeler with his sidekick Rosie. Ron was very kind hearted, caring and a giving soul always wanting to help others. Ron is survived by his wife, Dolores (Penny) Assoun; son, Kirt (Leanne) Assoun; grandchildren, Tyler, Tessa, and Brandon who were his pride and joy; brothers, Ken (Dorothy), Lewis, Jim (Sylvia), Kevin (Brenda) and Glen; sister, Kim; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; also leaving to cherish his memory are good friends, Robert ‘Louie’ Candelora, George Sutherland and many more. Besides his parents, Ron was predeceased by his son, Troy and brothers, John and David. In honouring Ron’s wishes cremation has taken place. Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Ronald ‘Ron’ Assoun will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Saturday, March 4, 2017. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 10-11 a.m. with service to follow at 11 a.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Light refreshments will be served in the funeral home reception area following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ron`s memory may be made to the Paediatric Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Family gives a special thank you to Dr. Greg Myatt and of the staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital who cared for Ron during his time of need. SARAH 'SALLY' 'DIDDY' DOYLE Born In: Bedford, Nova Scotia, Canada Born: September 1st, 1923 Passed in: SYDNEY, Nova Scotia Passed on: March 28th, 2017 It is with great sadness we announce the death of our Mother, Sarah ‘Sally/Diddy’ Doyle in Bedford, NS and formerly of Coxheath, Cape Breton on February 28th 2017. She was 93 years old. She was a woman who lived a long and healthy life. Mom was born on September 1st 1923 in Sydney NS to Roderick and Mary (MacNeil) MacDonald, Glebe Avenue. She is survived by a sister, Dolena MacMillan, Coxheath; her children, Brian (Suzanne Varley), Halifax, Blair (Sharon Parks), Dartmouth and Dorothy (Don Lutz), Fall River. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Doyle-Willis, Chris Lutz, Catherine Lutz (Natashia, Anthony); great-grandchildren, (twins) Peter and Jack Lutz and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Mom was predeceased by brothers, Roddie (Niki), Stevie and Angus MacDonald and a sister in infancy. Mom attended Sacred Heart Parish and Holy Angels Convent in Sydney. She married Dad, Lloyd ‘Buff’ Doyle at Sacred Heart Church on September 11th 1945. They lived for many years in O’Neil’s Court, Sydney and for several years in Goose Bay, Labrador where Dad was employed by Trans Canada Airlines (TCA) now known as Air Canada. On their return to Cape Breton, Mom and Dad settled in their new home in Coxheath. Mom was employed at Crowell’s Dept. Store and often recanted stories from her work life in the China/Housewares Dept. Mom and Dad were avid TV viewers never missing a TV hockey or baseball game. They enjoyed their many trips to Iona where Mom also spent her summers at her parent’s bungalow. The joy of card playing was handed down from her parents to her and then to her children and grandchildren. Mom was a devote Roman Catholic and churchgoer being a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Sydney River NS and St. Rose of Lima Parish, Fall River NS. After Dad’s death (2003), Mom moved to Bedford in 2006 to be near her children and grandchildren while enjoying her view from Waterfront Drive. There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 4th, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church with Rev. Bill Burke officiating.
