Joe lived in Port Morien, the son of Harvey and Barbara (Clements) Butts. Joe was a construction worker, fisherman and truck driver for H. Hopkins and other companies. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and ice fishing. He enjoyed collecting old cars and working on cars. Musically inclined, he played drums in the band Country Rain in his younger days. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 55 and a member of St. John’s United Church. Joe is survived by daughter, Tanya Butts(Ontario) and her children, Morgan, Mason and Maryn Aucoin and daughter, Carvell Blois (New Brunswick); companion, Georgeann Roberts; brothers, Gordon (Annie), Charles (Barbara), Eric (Donna) and sister, June (Late Earl) Cathcart and many nieces and nephews, especially nephew, Harvey Butts who travelled to Halifax with him. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Newell). Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Patten Funeral Home. There will be no visitation per Joe’s wishes. Online condolences can be sent to www.pattenfuneral.com Mary Josephine (Clark) MacKinnon Passed on: February 27th, 2017 Mary Josephine (Clark) MacKinnon, age 85, of Margaree Harbour passed away peacefully at home on February 27, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Mary was the chosen daughter of Rannie and Jessie MacDougall, Margaree Forks. In keeping with the tradition of the MacDougall family, Mary worked for many years as a post mistress in a number of the post offices in the Margarees. Mom was a spiritual women and her life was guided by her deep faith. She served her parish in many ways including being an active member of St. Michael's CWL for over 55 years and a founding member of the parish prayer group. Mom believed in working to build a better world and gave her time as a leader in both the 4H and Girl Guide movements. Mom was predeceased by her husband, John L. MacKinnon. Mary is survived by her children, Elaine (Fred) MacLeod, North Sydney, Linda (Leo) MacDougall, Cole Harbour, Janice, Halifax, Lauchie (Noella), Gerard (Barbara) and Brendan (Lisa) all of Margaree Harbour; grandchildren, Andrew, Jonathan, Matthew, Rebecca, Erin (Will), Ian (Katelyn), Kaela, John L., Nolan, Malcolm, Robert, Jessie, Ryder, Emma, Lynn and Breagh; great grandchildren, Georgia and Elijah. She was predeceased by her infant son, James Bernard; grandchildren, John Ronald and Joseph Anthony and son-in-law, Leo MacDougall. Mom always cherished her relationship with her MacKinnon in-laws and their families. Myles (Marge) Mac Kinnon, Carmella (Michael) LeBlanc, Chris (Roy) Cameron, Angus L. Earle Rolls Born In: Sydney Born: December 20th, 1927 Passed in: Sydney Passed on: February 27th, 2017 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Earle Rolls, age 89, on Monday, February 27, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born on December 20, 1927 in Sydney, Earle was the son of the late Stewart and Grendolyn (Apblett) Rolls. Earle was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Earle was a very gentle and kind man, who loved the simple things in life. He worked many years at the steel plant and at the same time provided for his family. He was a member of St. Alban’s Anglican Church. Earle will be remembered by his family and friends for never having a bad thing to say about anyone. A selfless private man, his love for his family and close friends was unparalleled, lending a helping hand whenever and wherever needed and asking nothing in return. He was a true gentleman to many and loved by all. Earle is survived by his guardians, Charlie and Ellen Rose; numerous cousins and close friends he made over the years. Besides his parents, Earle was predeceased by his two brothers, William Rolls and Stephen ‘Boxer’ Rolls. Visitation for the late Earle Rolls will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street), on Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to celebrate the life of Earle will be held on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 11 a.m. in Pier Community Funeral Home, All Faith Chapel with Archdeacon Brenda Drake officiating. Following the service, everyone is invited to a reception within the funeral home reception area. Interment will take place in Hardwood Hill Cemetery, Sydney at a later date. Formerly of Donkin, Annie was the daughter of the late Dave and Leah Kelloway. Annie was a member of St. Luke’s United Church, she was a very loving person to all who knew her and also known as a very avid BINGO player. She is survived by son, Billy (Linda); sisters, Agnes Curry (Port Morien), Merrile Chevrie (NB); brother, David (Donkin); special niece, Myrna George who was always at her side and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by husband, Billy Sr.; brothers, Johnathan and Robert; sister, Leah and half brothers and sisters. Born in Inverness on January 10, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Sophie Gaudet and Thomas Doucet of Inverness, Inverness Co. Mary Cecile is survived by daughters, Adirena, Deborah (Carl), Marjorie (Allan), Olive and Terry; sons, Thomas, Arnold (Emilie), Ricky (Susan), Darryl (Margaret); 14 grandchildren, Cathy, Stephanie, Mathew, Amanda, Ryan, Lori, Chad, Ricky, Brent, Ian, Eric, Britney, Andy and Taija; five great-grandchildren, Kody, Zachary, Katie, Megan and Hailey and her brother, Gordon Doucet. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert Bapiste and son, Peter Anthony ‘Andy’. Mary Cecile was known for her kind heart, her good humour and the love she had for her family. She will be forever missed by her entire family and the many friends and staff she enjoyed while residing at Foyer Pere Fiset, as well as friends and staff of Sydney City Homemakers she cherished while living in Sydney. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Susan (McWhirter) Boutilier. Marilyn was well known as a paper carrier with the Cape Breton Post for several years. She enjoyed gardening and playing bingo. She will be remembered as a very passionate lady who had a great sense of humor. Marilyn is survived by one daughter, Holly (Chad) MacDonald; two sons, Brad (Cathy), Jason (Danielle); five sisters, Mary (Fran), Vivian, Linda (Joe), Janet and Debbie. Marilyn will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Robyn, Tessa, Chloe, Bryson, Hayden and one grandson on the way. Marilyn was predeceased by her husband, Marcel Detchevery in 2007; three brothers, Roy, Wayne and Chickie Boutilier. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service, officiated by Fr. Dan Boudreau will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Interment in MacLeod’s Crossing Cemetery, Reserve Mines at a later date.
