Ethan was the son of Mark Spencer and Danielle Hall. He is survived by brother, Caleb Hall; grandparents, Alice Spencer and David Kelloway, Marjorie Hall (Victor Slade) and David Burke; great grandparents, Pius Spencer, Greg and Geraldine Sharpe, Tom and Marjorie Kelloway, Joe Macdonald, Barbara Steele and Eric Osmond; aunts, Kelsy Spencer and Crystal Hall and uncle, Shawn Hall. Ethan is also survived by numerous cousins. Ethan was predeceased by great grandmother, Peggy Macdonald; great grandfather, John Spencer and great grandparents, Maurina and Milton Hall. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 16, 11 a.m. at TJ Tracey Funeral Home, 370 Reserve Street, Glace Bay (902-849-4199), with Reverand Carol Gillard officiating. Janet (80) peacefully passed away with her loving family by her side, Monday, March 13, 2017 at Seaview Manor, Glace Bay, where she had resided the past number of years. George Blaise Kennedy Born: February 2nd, 1939 Passed in: Sydney, Nova Scotia Passed on: March 11th, 2017 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of George Blaise Kennedy on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born on February 2, 1939 in Irish Vale, George was the son of the late John Alec and Annie Mae (MacNeil) Kennedy. George loved life. He worked for Stott Aluminum for many years before venturing on his own as a business owner. His greatest joy in life was his family and helping others. George will be remembered by family and friends being honest and humble, as well as for his sense of humour. He will be missed by all who knew him. George is survived by his partner, Laine Kangropool; sons, Jimmy (Kim) and David Kennedy; daughter, Cathy (Chris) Van der Mark; stepchildren, Leslie Ann, Donalda, Adelle and Fred; other stepchildren, Dwayne, Wendy and Kim; step-grandchildren, Christopher, Caleb, Breanna, William, Nicolas, Elizabeth and William; brother, Joe (Camille); sisters, Louise (Leo) Collins, Jean Jackson, Carmella (Paul) LeBlanc, Dolores (Peter) Moran, Rose (Ray) Mombourquette, Helen (Shawn MacDonald) Garland and Carol (Greg) Hawylak; as well as many nieces, nephews and brothers-in-law. Besides his parents, George was predeceased by his sisters, Mary ‘Kitty’ Anderson and Loretta Stone. As per George’s wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A private graveside service for the late George Kennedy will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks, at a later date. Donations in memory of George may be made to the S.P.C.A. or Two River Wildlife Park. The family gives a special thank you to doctors, nurses and staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the care given to George during his time of need. Louise Cross Born: September 26th, 1924 Passed on: March 12th, 2017 It is with sadness the family announce the passing of Mabel Louise Cross, age 92, on Sunday, March 12, 2017. Born in Rencontre West, Newfoundland on September 26, 1924, she was the daughter of the late William C. and Phyllis (Durnford) Goodridge. Louise lived in St. John’s until 1957 and then moved to North Sydney. She and her husband Cyril recently celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on February 21, 2017. Louise was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney and for many years was a member of the choir, the Ladies Auxiliary, Altar Guild and was an assistant GA Leader. The matriarch of the family, her home was the gathering place for all occasions and her turkey dinners a favourite of all. Louise was a very outgoing person, her friendly smile and caring attitude was a pleasant addition to the community wherever she went. She is survived by her husband, Cyril; her son, David and his children, Jeffrey, Timothy and Michael; her two daughters, Shirley Chambers and her children, Kevin and Tanya and Linda (Malcolm) MacMillan and their son, Matthew; her six great-grandchildren, Lawson, Kennedy, Landon, London, Ryleigh and Lark; her sister-in-law, Myrtle Starks and brother-in-law, Frank (Mary) Stratton. She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Cheryl Cross; her two sisters, Mary Goodridge and Jessie Ball (John); brother, Roy Goodridge and nephew, Roy Ball. The family would like to thank Dr. Patrick O’Grady and the staff of the Northside General Hospital for the care shown to Louise. He was a son of the late Sarah (MacLellan) and Samuel Barrett. Cecil was born in Glace Bay. He worked in the mines for 12 years, then he became a member of Boilermakers Local 73. He worked as a welder and boilermaker until he retired. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. Cecil is survived by his loving wife, Cecelia (Yates); son, Jim (Thelma); daughters, Jane Anne Barrett and Sheena Bach; granddaughters, Angela Deveaux, Kimberley Barrett and Kristen and Julia Bach; great grandchildren, Chris (Olivia Colosimo) Deveaux and Sarah Deveaux. He is also survived by brother, Bobby Barrett; sister, Shirley (Allen) MacPherson; sisters-in-law, Coleen (Joe) Morrison and Janice Barrett; brother-in-law, Sonny Seward; and many nieces and nephews. JOSEPH "JODY" ARTHUR HAWKINS Passed in: FLORENCE, Nova Scotia Passed on: March 10th, 2017 It is with sadness that our father Joseph “Jody” Arthur Hawkins passed away in his sleep, at home in Florence on Friday, March 10, 2017 at 89 years of age. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. The son of the late Jack and Elizabeth (Laffin), Jody always had a strong sense of civic duty. He was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army at the age of 17 during World War II and re-enlisted as a paratrooper in the Korean War serving 14 months on the front lines. Upon his return to Cape Breton, Jody continued work in the coal mines where he stayed and worked for 40+ years until his retirement. He was also a lifetime member of the Florence Legion. Jody will be dearly missed by his family, children, Mary (Wayne) Pero and Joe (Barb) both of Florence, Susan Young of Alberta, Jake (Karen) of Elmsdale, Ricky (Marilyn) of North Sydney, Jo-Anne (Brad) Rahey of Georges River, Kenny (Allan) of Sydney and John Wayne of Montreal; grandchildren, April, Wayne, Chris, Kent, Ashley, Shane, Joey, Richard, Ryan, Randy, Chloe, Lindsey, Cole, Fiona, Valerie, Devan and Derek; great-grandchildren, Dana, Brandon, Melody, Lucina and Mya; sisters-in-law, Shirley, Margie and Eva; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and very good friends and neighbors, Cameron and Brenda Jessome, Bobbie Reid, Josie Tobin and their families. Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Carman United Church in Sydney Mines with Rev. Nick Phillips officiating.
