Cape Breton Deaths September 22, 2008 Monday Mary Christina 'Chris' MacIntrye 1909-2008 Northside East Bay, N.S - Nana Chris left us peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, surrounded by her family. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Daniel E and Effie Ann (MacIntyre) MacDonald. She is survived by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; daughter, Marie (with whom she lived) and her husband Dan Bisson; their children, Bernadette and her husband Sander Taylor, (Liam and Meghan), Marie and her husband Wayne Fennell, all of East Bay N.S.; son, Don MacIntyre and his wife Irene (Matlock), Hamilton, Ont.; their children, Dave (Danielle, Sean, Connor), Hamilton Ont., Donna and her husband John (Eric and Lee), Toronto, Ont; Kevin and his wife Laurie, Yellowknife, NWT, Diane and her husband Ken (Kiri, Megan, Ryan), Kingston, Ont. and son, Michael, at home, East Bay N.S. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Stephanie Campbell, Sydney, N.S. and many nieces and nephews. A great friend and inspiration to all who came in contact with her, Nana Chris played womens hockey (before it was cool - 1920s) and continue to skate into her 90s. She graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in 1931, and continued to be an active member of the alumnae. An avid gardener, crafts person and musician. She has touched the lives of countless number of people, we will all miss her strength and vitality. She was predeceased by her husband, Alex, brother, Angus Norman, Dan Alex, Reverend Father Mickey Malcolm and Alex S. and sisters, Sr. Catherine (Sister of Charity), Mary Ann (Driscoll), Tenie MacIntosh. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Sept. 23 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel 755 George St., Sydney. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Church, East Bay, Fr. Frank Abbass officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Reception to follow at East Bay Fire Hall. Born in Glace Bay, Nema was the daughter of the late Alexander and Dorthea (Stockley) Campbell. She was a member of St. Anthony's Church, Glace Bay. Nema was a former employee of Seaview Manor, Glace Bay where she made many friends with co-workers and residents alike. She will always be remembered for her passion for gardening, ceramics and her superb culinary skills. But mostly, Nema will be remembered for her compassionate nature. She never missed an opportunity to help family or friends in need. Nema is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Dannie; one daughter, Michele LeBlanc, Glace Bay; three sons, Shaun, Ottawa, Craig, Glace Bay, and Trevor (Rose), Oromocto, N.B. Also surviving are Nema's four grandchildren whom she treasured dearly, Jordan, Avery, Shelby and Eric, and siblings, Gladys Roberts, Waterloo, Sandy Close, Glace Bay, Mae Gatineau, Montreal, Judy McInnis, Glace Bay and her brother, Eric, Pictou. Nema was predeceased by three sisters, Bertha, Anne, Minnie, one brother, Jack and a son-in-law Allan LeBlanc. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday, Sept. 23 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass officiated by Rev. Conrad Edwards is Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony's Church followed by interment in the parish cemetery. Fellowship to be held in the parish hall. During your times of trial and suffering when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you." ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Steve MacFarlane 75, Glengarry Road, Big Pond - It is with deep sadness, that we the family announce the peaceful passing of Steve MacFarlane, which occured Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008, surrounded by his loving family at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late James and Cassie (MacNeil) MacFarlane. A truck driver by trade. In his pastime he was a backyard mechanic. He enjoyed going on roadtrips with his family, playing darts and bingo and being around horses. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, Big Pond and the Big Pond Volunteer Fire Department. Steve is survived by his loving wife, Loretta (MacDonald); two daughters, Valerie (Terry) Raoul, Sydney, and Lynn (Johnny) Pronk, Big Pond; three grandchildren, Nicole, John Steven and Michael; brother-in-law, Jimmie (Cheryl) MacDonald as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Angus, sisters, Annie, Isabel, brothers, Angus, Willie, Tony, Dougall, Allie, Jimmy and several siblings in infancy. Born in Bolton, Eng., 1913. Survived by sons, Charles, Daniel (Claire), with whom he resided over the past three years, Tom (Mary), George (Marge), all of Sydney; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Bob was predeceased by his wife, Sarah (Carroll), son, Bobby Jr. and daughter, Jean. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. Fabian passed away in Toronto on Jan. 15, 2008. His brother, Herb (Hubbie) and sisters, Sissy (Irene), Marcella and Noella would like family and friends to join them at 6:30 p.m. mass on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, at St. Michael's Church, River Ryan.
