May 21, 1938-Sept. 3, 2008 - It is with deep sadness we regret to announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather on September 3, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Cul-de-Sac, Nfld., he was the son of the late Joe and Elsie Hardy. Cecil was a lover of the sea. He loved to travel the world and made friends easily because of his infectious personality. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Rita (Marsden) Hardy; sons, Bill (Michelle) and children, Jasea (Poppy's girl) and Noah, all of Sydney, Joe (Michelle) and son, Joey, Fredericton, N.B.; daughter, Elizabeth (Kevin) Lindsay, Ottawa. We love you and will miss you dad." ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Joseph Eric Rendell Nov. 10, 1959 - Sept. 8, 2008 - Eric 'Boo' Rendell, beloved father of Gus of Calgary, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2008 at the age of 48 years. Eric was born in Bras d'Or, N.S. and resided in Calgary for the last 20 years. He adored his son, Gus, who was his world. He enjoyed working at Mount Royal College with the employees and students. He was always there to lend a hand to family and friends alike. He enjoyed passing the time with crossword puzzles, and listening to music. He had a career with the navy for ten years. Eric is survived by his children, Gus, Jayme Lee, and Jennifer; his wife, Darcy (Weenur); stepsons Kevin and Jeremy; parents John and Shirley; brothers Gerry and Wayne (Gloria); nieces, Rebecca, Nikki, Melissa, and Chrissy, as well as by his nephews Robbie, John Wayne, and Albert. A long time resident of 33 Water Street Glace Bay, he was employed in Vancouver with North America Construction Ltd and was a member of IBEW Cape Breton Local 1852 for over 30 years. Nelson was the son of Tena MacDonald and the late Russell (John A). He is survived by loving wife, Alice and son, Jeffrey (Elizabeth), Petawawa, Ont.; sisters, Heather, Ft. St John, B.C., Kim, Tantalon, N.S.; grandsons, Justin, Ottawa, Ont., Devon, Kingston, Ont.; many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Nelson was a member of Knox United Church, served as director, vice-president and president of Oceanside Assistance Group Limited. He was a vivacious collector of vintage movies, lover of sports and source of boundless knowledge. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008 at V.J. Kyte, in Montreal on Thursday, Sept. 11, in his 81st year. He is mourned by his wife, Peggy (Lamb); children, Glenn, Carmel, Anne Marie and Kevin (Alessandra) and grandchildren Emma, Emily and Rebecca. Stepfather to Charlie (Suzie), Bill (Louise), Tom (Ann) and Ted (Susan). He was predeceased by his first wife, Lillian (Baccardax) of Isle Madam; his brother, Arthur Kyte, Sydney and his parents Jack and Florence. Aubrey was a pilot with Air Canada for over 33 years, and retired as a captain in 1986. Born and raised in Cape Breton, he moved to Montreal in the 1950s, but returned home every year. His family will be taking him home to Cape Breton one last time after a first funeral in Montreal. Visitation will take place 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 16 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George St., Sydney. A funeral mass will be held at St Joseph's parish, 40 Cabot St., Sydney on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 11 a.m. He will be buried beside Lillian at Resurrection Cemetery in Sydney Forks. Born in Scaterie, he was the son of the late Ben and Eliza Jane (Martell) Campbell. He was a fisherman. He enjoyed hunting, singing and playing the guitar and spending time with his family. He enjoyed tinkering and exploring, trying to fix anything that needed fixing. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was truly a family man and was always there for his wife and children. Tom is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth 'Liz', his children, John Hugh Campbell, Baleine, Eliza Campbell, Brooks, Alberta, Ron Campbell, Main-a-Dieu; his granddaughter, Angelina Campbell, Brooks, Alberta; his two precious great-grandsons, Thomas Francis Campbell and Logan Michael Campbell. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and are under the direction of Chant's Funeral Home. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Cassie Ann MacKinnon 82, Bay St. Lawrence - It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our mother, Cassie, in Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Neil's Harbour, on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008. Born in Meat Cove, Inverness County, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Euphemia (MacDonald) MacLellan. She was a member and past president of St. Margaret's C.W.L., and served her parish with many acts of kindness and many volunteer hours. Mom loved company and was most happy surrounded by her family, cooking and baking for them. Playing bingo or a good game of cards was when she was most happy, and she had numerous ribbons and trophies to show for it. Despite her struggles with her health, she always had a warm welcome and a big smile for everyone who visited. Left behind to celebrate her life and legacy of love are her sons, Paul (Debbie), Hamilton, Ont., Lloyd (Gail), Bay Rd. Valley; her daughters, Betty, North Sydney, Helen (Andre), St. Margaret's Village, Mary Jane (Greg), Bay St. Lawrence, Jessie (Joe), Bay Rd. Valley, and her daughter-in-law, Frances, Bay St. Lawrence. Cassie is also survived by a special granddaughter, Tammy (Charlie), North Carolina, who she raised as her own, and grandchildren, Karen, Nicole, Trina, Shawn, Marisa, Lisa, Daniel, Stacy, Joel, Travis, and Angela; great-grandchildren, Brendon, Rebecca, Brice, Ashton, Sophia, and Cassie Emma, her brother George, sister Helen and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Simon MacKinnon, by only 10 days. Bagnell 78, Sydney/North Sydney - It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Graham Cecil Bagnell age 78 resident of Spruce Haven Drive, Sydney and former longtime resident of North Sydney, which occurred Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in North Sydney, Graham was a son of the late William Fultz and Ethel May (Bragg) Bagnell. He was employed with the Canadian National Railway as a conductor and later as yard master in North Sydney until his retirement. He was an active member of the United Trainmen Union for a number of years. He was a devout family man and a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney. He is survived by his sons, Graham (Anne) Bagnell, N.S., Michael Bagnell, Alberta, Hugh Bagnell, N.S., Brian (Carrie) Bagnell, N.B.; his daughter, Cathy (Ron) MacPherson, Florida; a number of grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a sister, Elsa, Ontario; brothers, Freeman (Joan) Bagnell, P.E.I., Fultz and Phil (Isabel) Bagnell, both of N.S. The family would like to express a special thanks to longtime companion and care giver Shirley MacLeod, also to the doctors and nursing staff of the Northside General Hospital, Cape Breton Regional Hospital and QE II Health Sciences Center for the care shown to Graham during these past several months.
