    3. Cape Breton Deaths September 26, 2008 Friday Dorothy (nee Cann) MacKinnon - Died peacefully on Sept. 21, 2008, in Toronto. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Daniel Alexander MacKinnon, Lake Ainslie, C.B.; and her sister, Noreen Colford, South Bar, C.B. Loving mother of Donna Jean and Dorothy, Toronto, John (Nancy), Goderich and Daniel (Gale), Innisfil. Sister to Edwin, George and John Cann, Sydney, Gerald, Niagara, and Yvonne Carroll, Comox, B.C. Grandmother to Ian (Marie), Colin, Kate (Austin) and Tara MacKinnon, Amy (Matt) Sigman and Emily (Daniel) Carroll and four great grandchildren. Dorothy worked for the City of Toronto as a social worker for 18 years. She was also co-founder of Nellie's Hostel, founding member of the National Action Committee for Women (NAC) and Pensioners Concerned; executive member of CUPE Local 79; founding member of Organized Working Women (OWW); and a member of Mayor's Committee on Aging. Family received friends at Murray E. Newbigging Funeral Home at 733 Mount Pleasant Rd., (south of Eglinton 416-489-8811), Thursday, Sept. 25 from 6-9 p.m. Funeral service at Wychwood Presbyterian Church at 155 Wychwood Ave. (at St. Clair Avenue), Toronto at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 26 with visitation starting at 10 a.m. Reception to follow at the Murray E. Newbigging Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations to Wychwood Presbyterian Church or Canadian Pensioners Concerned (Ontario Division). ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Thomas Francis Campbell 78, Main-a-Dieu - It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the sudden and tragic passing of Tom Campbell on Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at home. Born in Sydney, N.S., he was the son of the late Nathaniel and Jennie Nathanson. He spent his career in broadcasting. He is survived by wife, Pauline; brother, Norris; son, Ken and stepson, Gordon. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 12 p.m., Monday, Sept. 29 in Cruikshank's Halifax Funeral Home.
