Cape Breton Deaths September 05, 2008 Friday Albro Lauchlin Miles Ontario - Albro passed away at home on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008. Albro had a heart of gold. There was nothing he loved more than spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was born and raise on Cape Breton Island, N.S., and moved to Sarnia in 1957, where he worked as a longshoreman. In 1973 he started working for the City of Sarnia in the parks and recreation department, where he spent the greater part of his career working in the arenas. He retired from the city in 1992. He was a former associate member of the Royal Canadian Airforce Association and an avid sports enthusiast. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine 'Gerry' (Chiasson); son, Brian and his wife Crystal; daughter, Marlene (Kerwin) and her husband, David; grandchildren, Charlie Kerwin, Adelynn, Elliot and Leeland Belfour; brother, Jack and his wife Betty; niece, Karen (Goodman) and nephew, John. Predeceased by his parents, Albro and Rhodena Miles and nephew, Tommy Miles. A memorials service was held Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, at the D.J. Robb Funeral Home at 12:30 p.m. Memorial donations to the Terry Fox Foundation or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Marvin Barrett Calgary, Alta. April 5, 1949-Sept. 1, 2008 - It is with deeply saddened hearts that we announce the death of Marvin Edwin Barrett, who died suddenly at home in Calgary, Alta. Born in Sydney, he was the son of Florence (Head), Sydney and the late Chesley Barrett. Marvin worked as a draftsman for many years with various companies across Canada. He also loved to play guitar and fly fish. He will always be remembered for his dry sarcasm and sense of humour that we all came to know and love. Marvin is survived by his daughters, Amy Barrett, Sydney, and Chessam Barrett, Grande Prairie; son, Kyle Barrett, Sydney; two grandchildren, Rylee Mickey, Sydney, and Ryder Hennick, Grande Prairie; brother, Butch Barrett, Newfoundland; sisters, Madeline Bishop, Gail Barrett, Brenda (Tom) Pittman and Judy MacKay, all of Sydney, Ruth (Ken) Ranni, Halifax, and Laura (Harvey) Pennell, New Brunswick; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Monday at 11 a.m. with Maj. William Head officiating. Interment in Eastmount Cemetery. Born in Sydney, he was the son of William and Melissa Skinner; special brother to his twin sister, Melissa, Montreal; and big brother to his younger sister, Robyn, Alberta. Greg recently followed in his twin sister's footsteps and was to go to Edmonton Garrison, Alberta to Jarvis Lake Detachment to 19 Wing Comox to start the Sar-tech training program. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents in Antigonish, his special niece, Summer Echo and friends, Flight Engineer Melissa Lewis and 5-5 Charlie Co-pilot Emily MacIntyre. Funeral service to be held at a later date in Sydney. She is sadly missed by her husband, Conrad; daughters, Lisa and Yvonne; son, Conrad Jr.; four grandchildren; as well as her sister, Linda Poirier (Bernie), St. Catharines, Ont.; and brother, Bruce Landry (Joy), Cambridge, Ont.
