Cape Breton Deaths September 04, 2008 Thursday Mary (MacAdam) Dobranski Ontario - Peacefully, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, on Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, in her 93rd year. Beloved wife of the late Julius Dobranski (1984). Cherished mother of Julius (Jr.), Cambridge, Mary (Donald) Mahoney, Cape Breton, N.S., John (Shirley), Cambridge, Florence (Rudy) Schlager, Kitchener, Dolly (Ralph) Hibbs, Cape Breton, N.S., Larry (Christa), St. George and Andy, Cambridge. Dearly loved by 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her parents, John and MaryAnn MacAdam, a sister, Florence and her husband, Bernard Adshade and stepsister Katie Lawrence. She will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and dear friends. A memorial mass will be held at a later date. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Bernard Patrick 'Bernie' O'Leary 55, Logan Lake, B.C./Glace Bay, N.S. - Bernard P. O'Leary, age 55, of British Columbia, and a former resident of Reserve Street, Glace Bay, passed away suddenly on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, in Kamloops, B.C., as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of Edward 'Gus' and Florence (Stashuk) O'Leary. Bernie will always be remembered by his family and friends as a kind-hearted man with a great sense of humour. He is survived by his children, Stacie (Jeremy) Carrier, Dartmouth, James O'Leary, Victoria, B.C.; two sisters, Patricia (Stephen) Kane, Calgary, Janet (Gary) MacVicar, Marion Bridge; and one brother, Michael, North Sydney. Also surviving are Bernie's three nephews, Brendan Kane, Matt and Garett MacVicar. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home in Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at 11 a.m. in Holy Family Church, MacKay's Corner, Glace Bay. Rev. Gerald Campbell officiating. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery. Following the mass all are welcome to join the family for a reception in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Bernie may be made to a charity of one's choice. Ed passed away on Monday, Sept. 1, 2008, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Joseph and Agnes (Planetta) Michalik. Ed was manager the Glace Bay KFC for 18 years. After the closure of KFC, he decided to return to school and received his Grade 12 diploma and also completed a PCW course. He graduated in 1997. After graduation, he began working at Victoria Haven Nursing Home. He was a former member of the militia. He loved to play and watch hockey and baseball. He had a great love of animals. He loved music and was an avid Elvis fan. He enjoyed his daily walks. Ed was a 'jack of all trades' and mastered them all. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. Ed will be sadly missed by his loving and devoted wife of 38 years, Eileen (Stevens); daughters, Melody (Darren) Varga, Glace Bay, Cherie (Todd) Chant, Westmount; brothers, Michael (Eileen) Melnick, Glace Bay, Jonk (Donna) Melnick, Alberta; stepbrother, Bernie (Jeannie) Michalik, Glace Bay; sisters, Maudish (Owen) McCarthy, Ont., Cathy (Donnie) Murrant, Glace Bay. Father, grandfather, brother and uncle, he was born in Inverness and was the son of the late Bertram and Helen Jean (MacKenzie) MacDougall. For the last year, Lauchie resided at Taigh Na Mara, Glace Bay. He previously lived in the Maple Ridge Apartments, Sydney; Inverness and Port Hastings. He will be lovingly missed by his son, Keith, Mississauga, Ont.; daughter, Lorraine Impey, Prince George, B.C.; his brother, George (Betty) MacDougall, Sydney, and sister-in-law, Kathleen MacDougall. Lauchie is also survived by three grandchildren, Cole, Sarah and Jeremy Impey, British Columbia; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Lauchie was predeceased by his loving wife, the former Sarah 'Sadie' MacFarlane, Port Hastings, brothers, Lorne and Bertram, sisters, Caroline MacDougall and Beatrice MacLean. Lauchie was a veteran of the Second World War, serving in Canada, England, India and Burma. He was a past president of Sydney Junior Chamber of Commerce, vice president of Nova Scotia Junior Chamber of Commerce, president of 103 Wing RCAF Association, Sydney; president of Branch 43 Royal Canadian Legion, Port Hawkesbury, and past district commander, Cape Breton District Royal Canadian Legion. Visitation for the late Mr. MacDougall will take place Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, Port Hawkesbury at 2 p.m., Friday. Interment in St. Joseph's Parish Cemetery, Port Hawkesbury. Reception to follow.
