Cape Breton Deaths September 06, 2008 Saturday Margaret Catherine Hooper 88, Port Caledonia - We, the family, regret to announce the passing of Catherine Hooper on Sept. 5, 2008, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex. Catherine was born on Aug. 22, 1920, in Dominion. A daughter of the late James and Sarah (Grant) Murrant. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Catherine was a member of St. Luke's Anglican Church and a life member of the ladies guild. Catherine is survived by her son, Charles and his wife, Joyce (Murphy), Port Caledonia. Catherine's pride and joy were her two grandchildren, Annette and Charles. Catherine was predeceased by her husband, Charles Hooper Sr. and two sisters, Mae Turner and Edith Turner and one brother, William. Visitation for Catherine will be held Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008, at Patten Funeral Home & Chapel, 71 Union St., Glace Bay, 849-7520, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at St. Luke's Anglican Church in Port Caledonia, beginning at 11 a.m. with Rev. He is survived by his children, Wayne, Terry and Darrell; numerous granchildren; great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and one sister, Maxine Latham. Lindsay was predeceased by his wife, Jean and his daughter, Sharon. A memorial service will be held Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at 10 a.m. at the Evergreen Funeral Chapel, 16204 Fort Rd., Edmonton. Born in Bras d'Or, he was the son of the late Vincent and Louisa (Colvey) Day. He is survived by his wife, Ellen (Devoe); daughter, Margaret and son, Michael; three grandchildren; his sisters, Betty Musgrave and Dorothy Serroul; brother, Les Day; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Irene, Margaret, Juanita and Mylinda and his brothers, Hartland, Euguene, Wally, Lawrence, Gordie and Billie. He served as chief of police of Mulgrave, Antigonish, Bridgetown and Annapolis Royal and later retired from the Heavy Water Plant in Point Tupper. At his request, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, Bras d'Or, with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. He will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him.
