Cape Breton Deaths December 03, 2008 Wednesday Donna Cormier (Frechette) 48, Dominion - It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness the we, the family, must announce the passing of Donna Pauline Cormier after a long battle with cancer. Born in Sydney, N.S., she was the daughter of Mel (stepmom Sharon Downey) and the late Annie May (Campbell) Cormier. Besides her mom, Donna was predeceased by her grandparents, Tom and Esther Cormier and Donald John and Christine Campbell. Donna is survived by ex-husband, Michel Frechette; sons, Stephen (Kellie Shaver) and Kevin, two cherished daughters, Christina and Sabrina, all in St. Catharines, Ont.; siblings, John, Edmonton, Tom (Nancy Sinclair), Sarnia, Ont., Ian McLeod (Barb), Scott Andrews (Trudy), Halifax, Tena Cormier, Calgary, and Kim Cormier, Dominion. Also numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Donna will be sadly missed by her best friend, Mary Sparrow, Dominion. Donna's compassion and kindness was known to everyone who had the privilege to meet her. She loved her time as a sailor and cook with Upper Lakes Shipping, family get-togethers and barbecues. But her greatest pride was reserved for her children. She adored them with all of her heart. Donna's Poem: This life for me has hastily passed I have loved you all, till the very last. Weep not for me, but courage take Love each other, for my sake. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Deborah 'Louise' Morgan 51, Sydney Mines - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Louise Morgan at the Northside General Hospital on Dec. 1, 2008, with her family and very close friends by her side. Born in Sydney Mines, Aug. 8, 1957, she was the youngest daughter of Wallace and Dorothy (Drover) Morgan. Louise was a member of Immaculate Conception parish, Sydney Mines. She loved to get together with family and enjoyed a good game of bingo. She is survived by her partner, Dorothy; daughter, Jennifer (Curtis Gero), Dartmouth; sister, Junita (Gerry Carr), Guelph, Ont.; brother, Alfred 'Al' (Brent), Lantz, N.S.; stepchildren, Coressa, Corey, Shelley. She was a wonderful Nana to grandchildren, Kendra, TaSean and Zaria. Louise was predeceased by her sister, Monica and dear friend, Susan. She held a special place in her heart for lifelong friends, Lawson States and Sue States. Visitation will be held today (Wednesday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Immaculate Conception Church, Thursday at 10 a.m. with Fr. J.J. MacDonald officiating. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery. Louise wanted to thank Dr. Poulos and Dr. Coish and all the nursing staff on 4th floor of the Northside General. The wonderful care given to her will not be forgotten. Born in Glace Bay and lived in New Aberdeen most of his life, until moving to Quarry Road. Since March 2007, Eric has resided at Taigh Na Mara, where he received excellent care from the wonderful staff there. Eric was the youngest son of Mortimer and Isabell Skinner. He served four years in the Second World War with the RCASC overseas as a mechanic/driver. Later he worked in No. 20 coal mines and took early retirement for health reasons. Eric enjoyed his cottage in Mira Gut and spent his time gardening both there and at home. Eric was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Irene (Tutty) Skinner and his partner of 21 years, Doris Wark. Also his brothers, Richard Sr., Burford Sr. and his nephew, Burford Skinner (Junior). Eric is survived by his sister, Kathlyn Peach; his stepdaughters, Nancy McPhee, Glace Bay, and Bonnie Henrickson, Manitoba; nephews, Richard Jr., Michael and David. Also by his legal guardian, Mary (Burford Jr.) Skinner, who lovingly took care of him in his final years; also his sister-in-law, Katherine (Buford Sr.) Skinner. Eric was a member of Warden United Church. Visitation for Eric Skinner will take place from 2-3 p.m.. Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay, 849-7520. Funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Clayton Austin officiating. Interment will be held at Greenwood Cemetery at a later date. Online condolences may be sent to Patten@seaside.ns.ca. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Elizabeth Robinson 83, North Sydney - It is with great sadness the family announce the death of their beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, Elizabeth Robinson, age 83, a resident of the Northside Guest Home and formerly of Margaret Street, North Sydney. Elizabeth passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, at the guest home. Elizabeth was the daughter of the late John D. and Mary Ann (McCarthy) MacCormick. She was a member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney. She is survived by her three daughters, Shirley (Gerald) Crewe, Sydney Mines, Betty (Greg) MacDonald, Reserve, and Tammy Lynn Robinson, Sydney; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John T. Robinson, two brothers, Raymond and Francis MacCormick. Visitation for Elizabeth will take place Wednesday evening from 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Thursday at St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney, with Rev. David Luker officiating. Online condolences may be sent to info@wjdooley.com. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Charlotte (Madore) Timmons Glace Bay 1937-2008 - Charlotte Timmons, of 2 Roost St., Glace Bay, went to her eternal rest on Dec. 1, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Glace Bay, Charlotte was the daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth Madore. She was a member of St. John's parish. Charlotte took pleasure in many things during her life. There was always a smile, a joke and even a hearty laugh for her many friends. Her greatest passions were the precious children she had the privilege of caring for - her own and many, many others. Charlotte and the little black bag full of treasures she carried under her arm will always be a fond memory for many. Charlotte loved to dance, to play darts and to play bingo. She shared her life with a multitude of people who will miss her from their lives. Charlotte is survived by her husband of 51 years, John (Jackie) Timmons; her daughter, Elizabeth (David) Barnes, Truro, N.S.; two grandsons, Michael and Jamie Barnes, Truro, N.S.; her son, John (Elizabeth) Timmons, Swan Creek, N.B.; two granddaughters, Consuelo and Charlene Timmons, Swan Creek, N.B. Charlotte is also survived by brothers, Billy (Laura) Madore, Joseph (Mary) Madore, Nickie (Jean) Madore, Naish Madore (Mary MacDonald) and one sister, Theresa (Charles) Brushett. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Curry's Funeral Home. Funeral mass will take place at St. John's Church, Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at 11 a.m. Burial will take in the parish cemetery. There will be no public viewing as cremation has taken place. Condolences may be conveyed at a reception to be held after the funeral at St. John's Hall. Donations may be made in Charlotte's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Gerald (Jerry) MacSween 75, New Waterford - It is with great sadness that we, the family of Jerry MacSween, announce the passing of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and brother on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late John and Margaret (Bohen) MacSween. Jerry was employed as a mechanical supervisor at the heavy water plant. In later years, Jerry owned and operated Breton Cleaners in New Waterford with his son, Brian. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, New Waterford. A craftsman and a handyman, Jerry could fix most anything. He loved spending his summers at his bungalow in Catalone. Jerry was an avid reader and also enjoyed playing bingo and watching TV. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Wilma (Bates) MacSween; two sons, Brian (Patsy), New Waterford, and Kevin (Mitchell Davey), Montreal; a very special granddaughter, the love of his life, Breagh, New Waterford; one sister, Muriel (Ron) Healey, London, Ont.; three brothers, Lionel (Margie), Leo (Cheryl), both of Glace Bay, and Bart (Eva), Fredericton. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by three sisters, Anna Parsons, Helen Mercer, Loretta MacSween and one brother, Mike MacSween and twins in infancy. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, N.S., 862-7500. A funeral mass to celebrate Jerry's life will be held on Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at 11 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard/Mount Carmel Church with Fr. Doug MacDonald officiating. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at St. Agnes Parish Hall, all are invited. Donations in Jerry's memory may be made to the cancer society or palliative care. Ann Nicholson (retired employee of Leisure Lanes, Oshawa; avid bingo player) died peacefully at Lakeridge Health, Bowmanville, with her family at her side, on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, in her 72nd year. Ann, loving wife of Charles Andor of Oshawa and predeceased by Neil Nicholson. Loving and proud mother of Robert Nicholson and his wife Patricia, Medicine Hat, Alta., and Kim Owen and her husband Bill, Newcastle. Grandma to Aeric, Joshua and Kevin Nicholson, Derek, Dylan and Kayla Owen. Daughter of the late Wilford and Tina Attwood (nee MacDonald). Sister to Audrey Blacklock and her husband Jim, Tommy Attwood and his wife Joan, Phyllis McLeod and her husband Donny and Allan Attwood and his wife Grace. Sister-in-law to George Nicholson (Lynn), Elsie MacLellan (Jim), Mary Penton (Larry), Janet MacCormack, Lorne Nicholson and the late Warren and Bill Nicholson. Survived by many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at the Newcastle Funeral Home, 386 Mill St. S., Newcastle, Ont. (1-877-987-3964), Friday, Dec. 5 at 3 p.m., with visiting for one hour prior to the service. Cremation.
