    3. Cape Breton Deaths December 06, 2008 Saturday Marjorie (MacGibbon) Ball 86, Dartmouth - Marjorie (MacGibbon) Ball, 86, Dartmouth, passed away on Dec. 3, 2008, at home. Born in Halifax, she lived most of her life in Sydney, Cape Breton, a daughter of the late Leinus and Violet (Eddy) Coombs. She was a graduate of Sydney Academy and the Glace Bay General Hospital School of Nursing. She was a staff nurse at Sydney City Hospital for many years and directed the Student Nurses' Choral group. A well-known soprano throughout the Maritimes, she studied voice with M.J. Ballah, Sydney, and later with Mae Taylor Walshman. She was a soprano soloist at First United Church for several years and later at St. Andrews United Church, Sydney. She had leading roles in several Rotary productions in the 1950s. In the 60s and 70s she was frequently heard with the Halifax Chamber Orchestra, from the CBC studios in Halifax and toured Newfoundland and Nova Scotia with the Halifax Symphony. She was a charter member and soloist with the Cape Breton Chorale. Marjorie was an avid gardener, enjoyed travelling, playing bridge, needlework, and will be remembered for her kind heart and positive outlook on life. She was a member of St. Mark's Church, Coxheath, Cape Breton. While there, she was a member of the ACW, church council and directed the junior choir. After moving to Dartmouth in 1998 to reside with her daughter, she joined the Woodlawn United Church Chancel Choir. Over the past year she enjoyed regular visits in her home from Rev. Edwin Ebsary, Church of the Holy Spirit. She is survived by her daughter, Pam Taylor, Dartmouth, and grandson, Adam, also of Dartmouth. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Ian Ball, Aspotogan, N.S., Kevin (Donna MacInnis) Ball, Halifax, step-grandchildren, Jennifer, Jason, Brian, and great granddaughter, Zola. She is also survived by her sister, Lorraine (Alfred) Hutchins, Coxheath, N.S.; and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, John MacGibbon in 1979 and second husband, Max Ball, in 1994. She was also predeceased by her brother, Evelyn Francis Coombs in 1939 and an infant son, Francis Alexander in 1946. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. At her request, there will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Monday. Dec. 8 at Christ the King Church, Sydney, Rev. Frederick Rhymes officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Interment in St. Mark's Cemetery, Coxheath. Don was raised in Port Morien, a village he loved. He joined the Canadian Army (Armored Corp.) at age 18 and served three years including a year's tour of duty with the United Nations peacekeepers in Egypt. On release from the forces in 1961, Don joined his family who had moved to California the previous year. Don was predeceased by his first wife, Deanna, his parents, Ewen and Marjorie (Barlow) MacDonald and brother, Kent. Don is survived by second wife, Maggie; son, Andy; daughter, Marissa; grandchildren and sister, Lorena Boyle. Burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery, L.A., Friday, Dec. 5, 2008. Beloved wife of Donald C. MacAulay. Loving mother of Kirk MacAulay and his wife Alice, Norfolk and Luanne MacAulay, Franklin. Devoted grandmother of Kelsey, Nicole and Kyle MacAulay, all of Norfolk. Born in Sydney, Gloria was the daughter of the late Reginald and Elsie (Hillier) MacNeil. Although too short, Gloria lived a full life and was loved by all who met her. She was a giving person who always put family first. Not a day went by that she was not helping someone, encouraging someone, or being there for someone. It was that generous nature that made her always available for those around her, her mother-in-law and all of her family, anyone who needed it. She was the one constant in her family's lives, especially Lloyd's. They were lifelong companions and saw each other everyday for over 37 years. Gloria 'Nanny' loved her grandchildren and was easily taken by the hand by Jack or Charlie to play with toys. She was happiest when the house was full of her children and grandchildren. Gloria was very proud of her sons and talked to them and about them as much as she could. Having only boys for children and grandchildren, she found daughters in her sisters' children (all girls). She will be missed. She is survived by her husband and best friend, Lloyd; sons, Rick (Erica), Halifax, Darren (Loretta), Edmonton, and Glen (Wendy), Halifax; grandchildren, Jack and Charlie; mother-in-law, Isa; sisters, Debbie (Eddie) Moules, Donna (Tom) Lynch, Darlene Matheson; brothers, David (Cynthia), Eddie, Reggie, Bobby. Born in Sydney, Kieran was the son of the late William and Margaret 'Peggy' (McNeil) Fogarty. He was a member of St. Anthony Daniel parish. Kieran worked as a stevedore for the Government Wharf for many years. His heart was devoted to his children and grandchildren and the many sports for which he enjoyed especially playing and coaching baseball. Kieran is survived by his former wife, Helen Louise (Burt) Fogarty; longtime friend and companion, Jessie MacDougall; daughters, Florence, Brenda, Jackie (Charlie); son, Kieran (Donna); seven grandchildren, Kyran, Gregory, Kyle, Cody, Cameron, Curtis, MacKayla and one expecting. He is also survived by sisters, Florence, Becky, Ricky, brothers, William, Clarence and Richard. Born in Ingonish, he was a son of the late Maurice and Emma Jane (Donovan) Donovan. In 1977, Patrick retired from Parks Canada, Ingonish. Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of Mabel (MacKay) Jones, a resident of the Northside Guest Home, and the late Garfield Jones. Following his retirement in 1992, after 32 years of service with the Cape Breton Development Corp., Sheldon could be seen throughout the neighbourhood during his much loved daily walks. Reading, keeping up on current affairs and his love of gospel music filled his days. He enjoyed his time spent as a volunteer with the veterans at Harbour View Hospital, Sydney Mines, and for this work he was awarded The Maritimer of the Week. Survived by his wife, Grace (MacFarlane); daughters, Wendy (Glen Baker), Halifax, Melanie (Bernie) Tobin, Moncton, Heather (James) Tucker, Oromocto, and Lindsay (Dave MacLeod), at home. Grandchildren Brayden, Alexander, Mathew, Brett and Hailey. Born in New Waterford, Jessie was the daughter of the late Neil D. and Isabella (MacDonald) MacLeod and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Jessie was a member of Calvin United Church and in her younger years belonged to the UCW. She enjoyed gardening and sitting on her patio in the summer. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. Surviving are her two sons, David (Linda), Wayne, both of Dartmouth; three daughters, Lorraine (Mickey) MacDonald, Arlene Detienne, both of New Waterford, Brenda Detienne, Dartmouth; grandchildren, David (Jaralin) Detienne, Vancouver, B.C., Julie Detienne, Dartmouth, Jennifer MacDougall, Red Deer, Alta., Kristopher and Meagan MacDougall, New Waterford, and Jason MacDonald, Halifax. Jessie was also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, George, sisters, Isabell MacDonald, Mary Mitchell, Jean Sedore, Christina MacLeod, brothers, Donald, John Dan, Murdoch, Norman, Charlie, Allister and Calvin and Robert in infancy. Born in Baddeck, he was the son of Susan Simon-Bernard. He was a member of Blessed Kateri Tekekwitha Parish, Wagmatcook. He is survived by his wife, Patsy MacKay; two sons, Timmy Isadore, Shelburne, and Nicholas Isadore, Wagmatcook; one daughter, Charlene Isadore, Wagmatcook; two brothers, Simon and Rene Bernard, both from Wagmatcook; four sisters, Jessie (Roger) Christmas, Membertou, Patty Simon, Wagmatcook, Mary Hillier, Sydney, and Jackie (Phil) Drinnen, Little Narrows; 38 nieces and nephews; eight greatnieces and nephews and seven godchildren, Katrina, Pictou, Tad Simon, A.J. Chris was a member of the First Congregational Church of Hamilton where she volunteered for mission projects, attended Bible studies and maintained a strong group of friends. She was an active woman her entire life, enjoying swimming, tennis, skiing and gardening. Christine was born on April 26, 1931 in Louisbourg, N.S., a place she loved and returned to many times over the years. She leaves a brother, Joseph 'Dody' Bagnell and sister, Mabel (Bagnell) Hanham and a large extended family in the Louisburg area. Chris was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Margaret Bagnell, as well as her husband, Robert Rendall in July 2008, her brother, Weldon Wellington Bagnell and sister, Mary Florence Bagnell. Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late John H. and Mary Catherine (Campbell) MacDougall. She was a founding member of Holy Family parish, McKay's Corner, and took an active role in all phases of church life, especially the ladies auxiliary. In earlier years she worked at the Metropolitan Store, Glace Bay, until she was forced to retire to care for her aging father. She and her sister Sadie operated a confectionery store at the Corner for a number of years. Besides her parents, Faussie was predeceased by brothers, Rannie (Sally), Frank, Archibald, Alexander and Joseph, sisters, Emily MacIntyre (John), Victoria Marsh (Henry), Sadie MacDougall and Theresa MacDougall, nephews, Dave and Malcolm Marsh, who resided with her, and niece, Cindy MacAdam. She is survived by nephews, Victor (Lorna) MacDougall, Whycocomagh, Rudy (Doreen) MacDougall, Ronnie MacDougall, Rober (Cathy) MacDougall, Glace Bay and Archibald MacIntyre, Ontario; nieces, Janice Moriarty (Tom), Glace Bay, Anne (Basil) Marsh, Reserve Mines; and sister-in-law, Heckie MacDougall, Glace Bay. Memorial donations may be made to St. Anne's parish cemetery fund. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Theresa (MacDonald) Delaney Sydney - On Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, surrounded by her loving family, Theresa passed peacefully at the CND Care Centre, Sydney, into the hands of the God she so faithfully served. Born in Sydney's 'North End', she was the daughter of the late Michael B. and Johanna (MacCormack) MacDonald. A graduate of Holy Angels High School, Theresa was a devoted parishioner of St. Theresa's, a valued choir member and an associate of the Congregation of Notre Dame. For many years, she served as president of the parish CWL and later as secretary at the diocesan level. This past May, she was honoured with a 40-year pin for her years of dedication to the organization. Predeceased this past August by her husband, Alphonse 'Diddles,' she is survived by two sons, Bob (Colleen), Rhode Island, John (Susan), Halifax; and five grandchildren, Lenora, Lennan, Andrew, Nicole, Lisa; two brothers, Jim (Muriel), Ottawa, Bernie, Sydney; and three sisters, Elizabeth (Malcolm) MacQueen, Dominion, Kaye (Pat) Ryan, Ottawa, and St. Carmelita MacDonald, CND, Holy Angels Convent, Sydney. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by three brothers, Joe, John Hugh and Vincent, and one sister, Refina.
