Cape Breton Deaths December 24, 2008 Wednesday Ed 'Eddie' Dunphy 81, Sydney/Irish Cove - Edward Alexander Dunphy, 81, of Sydney, passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, after a brief illness. Born in Reserve Mines, Edward was the son of the late John Will and Margaret (MacPhee) Dunphy. Ed was employed at Sydney Steel and in the mid 1950s went to California, and soon afterwards settled in Lorain, Ohio, where he worked in the shipyards. For 30 years he worked at Ford Motor Company in the maintenance department, retiring in 1988. Ed had a wonderful memory for all his life experiences and willingly shared them with his family and friends. He was affectionately called 'Grumpy' by his children and grandchildren. Ed will be remembered for his enduring and concerned love for his wife Olga. Ed is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Olga Mallowaney; three sons, David (Peggy), Florida, Lawrence (Maureen), Patrick (Cheryl), both of Ohio; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, Michael, Manitoba, and Fr. Gerald, Sydney; sister, Tena (Bob) MacPhee, Truro; and several nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his sister, Josie (Mrs. Tom MacNeil, Irishvale) and by brothers, John, Charles Ray and Alvin. There will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be celebrated Boxing Day, Friday, Dec. 26 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society or a charity of choice. Online condolences may be sent to twcurryparkviewchapel@ns.sympatico.ca or www.mem.com. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Francis 'Frankie' Allan MacDonald 54, Glace Bay - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Frankie MacDonald, Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at home. Born in Glace Bay, Frankie was the son of Frances 'Betty' (MacPherson) MacDonald and the late Allan MacDonald. He was a member of St. Mary's Anglican Church, Glace Bay. Frankie spent most of his life working around cars and was known as an excellent body man. He worked for Joe Parson's Construction Company and Carabin's Bus Service. Frankie was a compassionate man who loved to visit his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Donna (Campbell) MacDonald, Sydney; one son, Allan, Glace Bay; and two daughters, Mary 'Beth' Gillis and Christina Walker, both of Sydney. Frankie is also survived by his brother, Joe Parsons (Lexie), Glace Bay; four grandchildren, whom he greatly adored, Allan, Hailey, Dakota and Dwayne; a cousin who was more like a brother, Alfie Hart (Dorothy), Glace Bay. Also left to mourn his passing are several nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and several close friends who will miss their 'little buddy', Gordon 'Skippy' Scott, Bobby Frison and Craig Carabin. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. There will be no visitation or funeral service. A private burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery at a later date. Condolences to the family can be expressed at www.vjmcgillivray.ca. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ronald Joseph 'RJ' McNeil 54, Glace Bay - We are very saddened to announce the unexpected passing of Ronald Joseph McNeil, of 879 Main St., Glace Bay, which occurred at his home on Dec. 21, 2008. 'Ronald Joe' was a Red Seal Carpenter and owned and operated his own business for many years. He, 'RJ', was a life member of the Kinsmen Association and a former member of K-40. He also enjoyed being outdoors, bowling, fishing, and bonfires. Ron cherished time spent with family and friends. Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late John T. and Catherine 'Kitty' (MacDonald) McNeil. He is survived by his companion, Lynn MacInnis; his two sons, Chad (Terra), Halifax, and Mark (Courtney), Vancouver; Lynn's daughters, Jillian and Natasha (Mark), both of Glace Bay; his sister, Frances Kieley, British Columbia; brother, Allan, Ontario; sister-in-law, Marion, Ontario; very special family friends, Keith and Anne Wilcox; many nieces and nephews, especially Jen and Matt; and other wonderful friends. He was predeceased by sisters, Janice and Marilyn, brothers, John and David, infant brother, Jerome, brothers-in-law, Jerome Poirier and Michael Kieley. Visitation will be held Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Curry's Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Saturday, 10 a.m. in St. Anne's Church, Rev. Leo Boone officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Family flowers only. Born in Sydney, he was the son of Jacqueline Gould and Fred Marshall of Eskasoni. He was a member of Holy Family parish, Eskasoni. Harry loved to play hockey, hunt and fish. He was an avid outdoorsman. He is survived by his loving companion, Jennifer Johnson; loving father to his son, Jason, both of Eskasoni; sisters, Sidney Jane, Bobbilee, Erin, Jenilee, Kimber, Angelina; brothers, Jack (Kelly), Nilan, Louis, Jon Rhett; grandparents, Sidney Gould, Gloria Gould and Susie Marshall; four nieces; three nephews; two godchildren; and several aunts and uncles, all of Eskasoni. He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Margaret Gould and brother, Jameison. Visitation for the late Mr. Gould will take place Saturday, Dec. 27 after 7 p.m. at 19 Denny's Lane, Eskasoni. Funeral mass will be celebrated Monday at 2 p.m. at Holy Family Church with Rev. Martin MacDougall officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
