Cape Breton Deaths December 17, 2008 Wednesday Roderick 'Roddy' Byron Tomiczek 40, Glace Bay/New Waterford - It is with saddened hearts that we announce the sudden death of Roddy Tomiczek on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, in New Waterford. Born Feb. 3, 1968, in Ontario, he was the son of Murdock and Marilyn (MacLean) Tomiczek. Roddy was raised on Mahon Street, New Waterford, and for the past couple of years he was residing at Dorchester Street, Glace Bay. He was employed in Fort McMurray, Alta. Roddy loved sports and was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays fan. Roddy, also known as the 'Rodster' will always be remembered as a kind, loving soul who could always bring a smile to anyone's face. He was a very compassionate man to his family and friends. Roddy was a loving father, brother, son and friend and will always live on in our memories. Besides his parents, Roddy is survived by his fiancé, Shauna Doyle of Glace Bay; three daughters, Ashley (Kevin), Riley, Emma; two beautiful granddaughters, Emily, Lilia; and two stepdaughters, Markayla and Kendra. Roddy is also survived by his two sisters, Anna (David) Broad, Candice Tomiczek; nieces and nephews, Amanda, Allan, Michael, Stephanie Broad and Chloe and Brooklyn Tomiczek. He will be sadly missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins and his life long friend, Joseph Perfect. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. The funeral mass officiated by Rev. Doug MacDonald is Friday at 11 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard, St. Agnes Church. Cremation to follow. He only takes the best ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Cleophas 'Lokie' Robinson 88, Glace Bay - We are saddened to announce the death of our precious mother, Cleo 'Lokie' Robinson, which occurred at home Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, surrounded by her loving family. Lokie was born in 1920 in Glace Bay to the late Hugh and Ellen 'Nellie' (Nolan) McMullin and resided on Mansfield Street until last year. She is survived by her son, John T. (Louise Campbell); daughter, Rita (Peter MacInnis), with whom she resided, and her youngest daughter, Sheila (James Tate), who recently relocated from Toronto. She is also survived by her sisters, Faustina MacDougall, Lily Rhodes (John A.), Kaye McNeil (Fabe), Glace Bay, and Mary MacKinnon, Brockville. Nana will be missed by her three grandchildren, Francine Roper, Glace Bay, Anita LaPointe, Thunder Bay, Ont., and Justin MacInnis, Donkin, who she lovingly helped raise. Nanny is also survived by her two great-grandsons, Brett and Curtis Roper, who she dearly loved. 'Nana Lok' will be sadly missed by the 'girls next door,' Debbie, Leah and Emily MacIsaac. Mom also has numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren. Lokie was predeceased by her husband John in 1992, brothers, Justin, Dave, Hugh 'Lou' and Matty, sisters, Elizabeth 'Lizzie' MacNeil, Marie Redmond and Helen Stevens and her dear friend, Mary Butler. Mom was a lifetime member of the Coal Town Chorus and St. Anthony's choir. In her younger years, she was a cub scout leader and taught religion in her home. She loved to play bingo and enjoyed a good game of cards. She was a great cook and beautiful baker. A kind and generous person she shared with all and was always there for those in need. She was a gentle, talented mother who taught us well and passed on to us her strong Christian faith and generous ways. Lokie will be missed by all and forever loved and remembered. Visitation will take place today (Wednesday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Curry's Funeral Home, Glace Bay. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10 a.m. from St. Anthony's Church with Fr. Conrad Edwards officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery with a reception to follow in the church hall. Family flowers only. E-mail condolences to jmcurry@ns.sympatico.ca. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Harold Robert Ings 61, North Sydney - Surrounded by the love of his family, Harold Robert Ings, beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle passed away peacefully after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer on Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at the Northside General Hospital. Born in North Sydney, Harold was the son of Vera (Chaisson) Ings of North Sydney and the late Charles Ings. Harold worked aboard the Marine Atlantic vessels for 35 years until his retirement. Besides his mother Vera, Harold leaves behind his beloved wife of 38 years, Shirley (Humeniuk) Ings, formerly of Whitney Pier, who will miss him deeply. His beloved son Stephen and wife Lindsay, Dartmouth, much treasured and loved grandsons, Zachary and Noah who will miss him very much as they were 'Poppy's boys'. Also surviving are his sisters, Charlene and Alice, both of North Sydney, Barbara Tricco and her husband Neil, Newfoundland; and his extended family, father and mother-in-law, Steve and Rose Humeniuk, Whitney Pier; sister-in-law, Donna Barrington and her husband Ed, Portage; brothers-in-law, Dan Humeniuk and his wife Cathy, Port Hawkesbury, Wayne Humeniuk and his wife Monica, Winnipeg, Steve Humeniuk Jr. and his wife Betty, Sydney River; his special uncle, Angus Ings, Sydney Mines; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, also godchildren, Philip Doody, Trinity Ings and Laura Humeniuk. In keeping with Harold's wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A Funeral service will be held for Harold at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19 in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney with Rev. Peter Rafuse officiating. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. Herridge Hallé Levis, Que. - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother, Ethel M. Herridge Hallé on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, at the Hotel Dieu, Lévis, Qué. surrounded by her loving family. Born in North Sydney in 1913, the daughter of George Herridge and Margaret Hamilton, she was predeceased by her husband, Lucien Hallé, pilot, St. Lawrence River in 1966, two brothers, Daniel and Charles, two sisters, Geneva and Marguerite, her niece's husband, Robert (Bob) Clarke and most recently her son, Peter in 2007. Ethel is survived by one daughter, Marguerite Morissette, St. Romuald, Qué.; three sons, Paul, Emile and Mark, all of Québec City; as well as nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, several nephews and nieces, in particular, Shirley Clarke of North Sydney, and great-nephews and nieces, some of whom live in the North Sydney area. Ethel was an adherent member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church and a member of the North Sydney Senior Citizens and Pensioners Club where she served as secretary treasurer for many years. Ethel was cremated in Québec. Her ashes, along with those of her son, Peter, will be taken to North Sydney in the summer of 2009 for a simple family burial and tribute at the Lakeview Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Josephine MacDonald Dover, NH - Josephine MacDonald, 93, died peacefully, surrounded by her family at Bellamy Fields Assisted Living Facility in Dover. Born in New Waterford, N.S., Canada, on July 25, 1915, she was the daughter of Frank and Susan (Colbert) Rice. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Dr. John A. MacDonald; daughter, Leone Edwards and husband Joe, Zephyerhills, Fla.; sons, Frank, Kittery, Me., and John B. and wife Donna, Dover; grandchildren, Todd Edwards, Dale Edwards and Daniel J. MacDonald; and her sister, Marguerette Caldwell, Canada. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Richard, sisters, Carmella and Veronica and her granddaughter, Tracey L. MacDonald.
