Cape Breton Deaths December 31, 2008 Wednesday Mary Margaret MacLean 99, Boisdale - It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, Mary Margaret MacLean, 99, a lifelong resident of Boisdale, on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney. Born April 2, 1909, in Reserve Mines, she was the daughter of the late Mary Ann MacDonald of Boisdale. She was a member of St. Andrew Church, Boisdale. Margaret was well known for her Gaelic singing and enjoyed performing at various functions. Over the years she shared her love and knowledge of the Gaelic language and heritage to many students taking Celtic studies at St. FX University, Antigonish. She lived in her own home until her death, which she shared with her son John and his wife Mae MacLean, who also cared for her over the last number of years; she is also survived by her daughters, Mary Sarah (Sadie) MacIntyre, Mary MacIsaac, both of Boisdale, and Mildred (John) Stolarski, Langley, B.C.; her sister, Helen Stewart, Collingwood, Ont.; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Roderick MacLean, a daughter, Helen Gillis, four brothers, Rod, Billy, John J. and Raymond, three sisters, Anne, Jessie and Effie. Visitation for Margaret will be held Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at St. Andrew Church, Boisdale. Funeral time to be announced. Burial to take place at St. Andrew Parish Cemetery, Boisdale. Gerald passed away Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, at his residence. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Charles and Nora. He was employed with Devco retiring after 34 years of service. He enjoyed playing darts and pool. Gerald was a former member of the Army Navy Air Force Veterans in Canada, Glace Bay. Gerald will be sadly missed by wife, Delores (Popwell); daughters, Charlene (Jimmy), Ann (Angus), Diana (Sean), Rita (Paul), Joanne (Andy); sons, Gerard (Rhodina), Roy (Diane), Ray (Lucy), Alex (Lisa), Eric (Laurel), David (Kathy), Russel (Marilyn), Art, Robert; brothers, Joe, Terry; sisters, Martha, Rosemary, Janette, Dena; 42 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Jackson of Ingonish, born on Aug. 9, 1916, regret to announce her passing on Dec. 27, 2008, at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, N.S. She was the daughter of the late John and Charlotte (Hardy) Barnes. She was predeceased by her husband, John L. Jackson and one son in infancy. She is survived by five children, Shirley DeKouchay, Sydney, Leonard (Maureen) Jackson, Sydney River, Emily (Frank) Spriggs, New Minas, Douglas (Jeanette) Jackson, Ingonish, Lewis (Irene) Jackson, Brockville, Ont.; and 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Edna Ings and Julia Blagdon, North Sydney. Val and her late husband operated a restaurant and later Keltic View General Store in Ingonish. She was an avid crocheter and knitter, as well as other crafts, which she enjoyed immensely. Predeceased by her brother, Layton Miller, Hamilton, Ont., and her sister, Mary Reid, Dartmouth, N.S. She is survived by her brother, Clarence Miller, Glace Bay, N.S. June was a longtime, dedicated employee of the Royal Bank for 45 years. She will be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews throughout the Maritimes and Ontario. Born in Glace Bay, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Elizabeth (LeBlanc) Mullins. Mavoureen will be sadly missed by her husband of over 35 years, James W.
