Cape Breton Deaths August 22, 2008 Friday Janice Patricia MacDonald 38, New Victoria - Janice Patricia MacDonald, 38, of New Victoria, passed away Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of Mary Delores (Neville) Roach, New Waterford and the late John James 'Jimmy' Roach. Janice attended and graduated from Breton Education Centre in 1988. She then moved on to the Sydney Community Health Center's School of Nursing and graduated as a registered nurse in 1990. Janice and Joey began their married lives together in St. Stephen, N.B., where their children Renee and Ryan were born. Later, she moved back home to Glace Bay and had another son, Colin. Janice was employed in Glace Bay, New Waterford, and the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Janice had a very special way about her to always make people laugh. She loved to laugh and joke and enjoyed telling a good story to family and friends. She truly had a great love of life. Janice was loved and will be greatly missed by all, especially her children. Surviving are her children, Renee MacDonald, Ryan MacDonald and Colin MacDonald, all at home; brothers, Richard (Natalie) Roach, Wilmot, N.S., Terrence (Eleanor) Roach, New Waterford, Blair (Cherie) Roach, Victoria Mines; sisters, Darlene (Art) O'Keefe, Glace Bay, Johanna (Greg) McNeil, New Waterford; partner, Tony Boutilier, New Victoria. Janice was predeceased by her husband, Joey Maxwell MacDonald, father, Jimmy Roach, and sister, Debbie Roach. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will be held Saturday, Aug. 23 at 11a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Church with Fr. Paul MacNeil officiating.Interment will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery. Following the burial, a luncheon will take place at Blair Roach's house located at 45 Armada Dr., Victoria Mines. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Lucy Ann Locke 1944-2008 Glace Bay - We, the family of Lucy Ann Locke, age 64, of Fraser Street, Glace Bay, regret to announce her passing on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, after a very courageous battle with cancer. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late John and Eva (Marchand) Doucette from Reserve Mines. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Reserve Mines. Lucy received the most pleasure in life from being in her home, creating and sharing memories of happy times with her family. Lucy also took great pride in being a faithful employee of Dominion and SuperValu Grocery Stores in Sydney and Glace Bay for over 40 years. Lucy is survived by Bill, her loving Husband of 47 years; daughter, Debbie (Brendon); sons, Joe (Cheryl), Glenn (Allison), Calvin (Cyndy) and nine cherished grandchildren, Ryan, Nicole, Joey, Jeffrey, Kaitlyn, Alicia, Billy, Matthew and Kelsey. Lucy is also survived by her sister, Shirley and brothers, Wilfred and Cecil. Visitation for Lucy Locke will he held today (Friday, Aug. 22) from 5-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Ltd., 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 9 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 23 at St. Joseph's Church, Reserve Mines, with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lucy's memory may be made to the Sydney Cancer Centre or St. Joseph's Cemetery, Reserve Mines. 'Sam' Farrell 61, Sydney - It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the death of Adrian Kevin 'Sam' Farrell who passed away peacefully at home Aug. 21, 2008. Born in Bay Du Nord, Fortune Bay, Nfld., on Nov. 26, 1946, he moved to Sydney at an early age where he resided until his death. He was the son of Eileen (Farrell) of Whitney Pier and the late Lawrence Farrell. He is survived by his loving wife, Janice (McIntyre) Farrell; sisters, Marguerite Pittman, Lillian (Bruce Andrews), Sydney River; brothers, Bernie (Margo), Newport Station, David (Margie), Sydney, Larry (Kim), North Sydney, Maurice, at home. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a special brother-in-law, John Pittman. In his earlier days, he was quite involved with the Holy Redeemer YCW. Adrian was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves since Oct. 2, 1972, and spent two terms as commanding officer 45 Field Engineer Squadron and held various staff appointments at the Cape Breton Militia District Headquarters. Adrian retired from 45 Field Squadron with the rank of major and served a term as honorary lieutenant-colonel of the squadron. Adrian worked for a number of engineering consulting firms and for the last number of years was employed with Gillis Building Supplies until sickness forced him to retire. As per his wishes, there will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A mass of resurrection will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church by Rev. Anthony O'Connor and Rev. Charles Cameron, Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at 10 a.m. Reception to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 12. Memorial donations may be made to Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or to a charity of choice. Bernice Gregor (nee Kearney), beloved wife of the late Harvey Gregor in her 72nd year; dearly loved mother of Anne Greco (John), Michelle Gregor (Steve) and Allyn Fox (William); lovingly remembered by grandchildren, David, Markus and Sierra Greco; dear sister of Francis 'Ted' Kearney, Irene Grant (Bill), Marion Bennett (Jim) and sister-in-law, Joan Kearney. Predeceased by her parents, Marion and Cornelius 'Donny' Kearney and brother, William Kearney. Funeral service was conducted in the funeral home chapel. Cremation followed.
