Cape Breton Deaths August 30, 2008 Saturday Mary Campbell (nee Ferguson) May 26, 1940-Jan. 7, 2008 - Surrounded by the love of her family, Mary Campbell passed away peacefully in Calgary, Alta., on Jan. 7, 2008, at age 67. Mary was born in Glace Bay, N.S., on May 26, 1940, to Lexie and Malcolm Ferguson. Mary successfully overcame cancer back in 1980 and went on to spend many years volunteering her time with Cancer Mount and hospice patients. Mary then moved to Calgary in 1991, where she touched the lives of many through her work at SMED International. Her loyalty, compassion and dedication to excellence were felt by every person who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was deeply loved as a mother, sister, grandmother and friend and will be dearly missed by all. Mary is survived by her daughters, Jody Campbell, Halifax, N.S., and Carrie Nunis (Chris) and children, Kaija and Tyeisha, Melbourne, Australia; her brother, Malcolm Ferguson (Marilyn), Simcoe, Ont.; and her sister, Isabel Anderson (Harold), Calgary, Atla; her niece, Denise Anderson (Derek Louch) and children, Jessica and Justin, Calgary, Atla.; nephew, Wayne Anderson (Irene) and niece, Darlene Roberts (John), Calgary, Atla. Mary's memory will be cherished by the countless friends she made in Cape Breton, Calgary and around the world. She was predeceased by her mother, Lexie Ferguson, her father, Malcolm Ferguson and her brother, James Ferguson, all of Cape Breton, N.S. A graveside service will be held at Hardwood Hill Cemetery in Sydney at 1:30 p.m., Aug. 31 followed by a light reception in the Kavanagh Room at the Pavilion on the Esplanade. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Duncan and Catherine (MacLean) Campbell. William was a member of Holy Redeemer parish. Before retirement, he was employed with Devco and the coke ovens. Surviving are his daughters, Rose Marie Campbell, B.C., and Nancy (Gerry) Demers, Alberta; sons, Bernie (Debbie), Sydney, Andy (Sheila), Truro, and Dewey (Kyla), Alberta; sister, Rita (Bill) O'Leary, Ontario; brother, Duncan Leo, Sydney; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and special sister-in-law, Tillie Campbell. William was predeceased by his wife, Catherine Bernice (Keough), sisters, Mary Muise, Anita Hanlon and Cathy in infancy and brothers, John and Bernie. As per his request, there will be no visitation. Born in Glace Bay, Everett was the son of the late Lawrence and Velma (Whalen) Wadden. Everett is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Kelloway); son, Jeffrey, Cambridge Ont.; daughter, Michelle (Trevor), P.E.I.; brothers, Bobby (Arlene), Port Morien, Brian (Burtha), Port Morien, and sister, Lynn (Bruce), Saskatchewan. Everett is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and a special longtime friend, Donald Hopkins. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Born in Inverness, he was a son of the late James 'Curly Jim' and Catherine (MacPhee) Gillis. Angus was a member of the Parish of St. Leonard, St. Agnes Church, New Waterford. He was a retired miner of 44 years. Angus worked as a mechanic in Nos. 12, 16, and Lingan collieries. He was the go to person whenever you needed help with your car and was always up for the challenge. Angus was a devoted family man who loved to tinker with engines, go for long drives, listen to fiddle music and hang out with family and friends. He had a passion for Fords and was a diehard Toronto Maple Leafs fan. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, the former Sophie Ropek; sons, Wayne (Mary) Gillis, New Waterford, Bobby (Susie) Gillis, Kitchener, Ont.; daughters, Cathy (Fabe) Sudworth, Sherry (Wayne) McKenzie, Rose (Brian) McPherson, all of New Waterford, Angela (Frank) MacKinnon, New Victoria; one brother, John, New Waterford; 11 grandchildren, Michael, David, Colin, Carollee, Tony, Timmy, Scott, Adam, Cory, Meaghan and Matthew; great-grandchildren, Kate, Ashley, Charles, Emma, Ericia, Emily, Alex and Jessica; and several nieces and nephews. Born in Glace Bay, N.S., he was a son of the late William and Susan (McMullin) Graham. Chuck attended Goshen Gospel Church. He was a stationary engineer at St. Martha's Regional Hospital for 25 years, having to retire due to illness. Chuck was an avid woodworker and had a talent for poetry and art. He and his wife were foster parents having cared for 28 children over 15 years. He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Stewart); daughters, Jennifer Graham, Pictou, Kallee (Kevin) Shea, Antigonish; son, Zachery at home; foster daughter, Kelly Woodington, Antigonish; grandson, Mark Shea; and sister, Mary Kieth, Halifax. The remains have been cremated. A memorial service will be held in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College St., Antigonish, Monday at 3 p.m. with Pastor John Luten presiding. She was born to the late Bill and Helen Williams from Low Point, Cape Breton, N.S. Predeceased by brothers, Clair, Eddy, Charlie and sister Rose. Anne is survived by her sisters, Susan and Sadie; brothers, Willie and George; as well as her husband, Donald MacNeil; son, Neil MacNeil and daughter, Krysta Anne MacNeil. Anne celebrated her 63rd birthday on July 27th while relaxing at the cottage with her daughter and two sisters. Anne was a very compassionate person who will always be remembered for her ability to comfort others as well as her great sense of humour. A memorial mass celebrating Anne's life will be held Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, at 11 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard, St Joseph's Church, New Victoria, with Fr. Doug MacDonald officiating.
