Cape Breton Deaths August 29, 2008 Friday Evelyn (Connors) MacDonald 80, Glace Bay - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Evelyn (Connors) MacDonald peacefully at home on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008. Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, she was born in Glace Bay and was the daughter of the late George and Lillian (Jessome) Connors. Evelyn resided with her children on Wood Street for many years before moving to the MacDonald's Lane Complex, Glace Bay. She will be lovingly missed by her sons, James, Manitoba, Michael, Nova Scotia; daughters, Sharon, New Brunswick, and Lillian, Ontario. Evelyn is also survived by four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Audrey Kennedy, Sanda Locke, Lola Duckworth and one brother, Terry Connors. She was predeceased by her daughter, Paulette and three sisters, Mary MacDonald, Kay MacIntyre and Patricia Keylor. Evelyn cherished every moment with family and friends and really enjoyed "fighting" a good game of cards. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive relatives and friends Saturday morning, Aug. 30, 2008, at the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Fr. Gerald Campbell officiating. Interment to follow at St. Anne's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Condolences to the family can be expressed through the funeral home at: www.vjmcgillivray.net. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ James MacVicar 83, Glace Bay - James MacVicar of 9 McKenzie St., Glace Bay, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex. Born in Glace Bay, James was the son of the late Donald and Edith (MacKenzie) MacVicar. James worked for the Cape Breton Development Corp. as a mine surveyor and draftsman for 45 years. He is survived by wife, Anne (Weatherby); sons, Gary (Janet) Marion Bridge, Keith (Patrice), Upper Grand Mira; daughters, Sharon (Allan) and Ruth (Darrell), Glace Bay. A true source of pride and joy for 'Papa Jim' were his three grandsons, Matt and Garett MacVicar and Logan Cooke. Also surviving are sisters, Ruth (Howard) MacKinnon, Audrey (Michael) Butler; brother, Donald (Sue), and sister-in-law, Catherine Peters. James is also survived by several nieces and nephews. James was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Eric and Bill Peters and sister, Sarah. In honouring James' request, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay, 849-7520.
