    3. Cape Breton Deaths August 18, 2008 Monday Archibald Stuart Williston 1918-2008 - Archibald Stuart Williston, 90, passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Aug. 16, 2008. He is survived by his wife, Joyce (MacGregor), and several nieces and nephews. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. B.J. Williston, Loggieville, Miramichi, N.B. He was predeceased by brothers, John, Bedford and Leonard, sisters, Jean, Mary and Rena. Arch had a long career with the CNR, arriving in Sydney in 1946 in charge of the car shops department. He retired in 1983. For 50 years he was an active and dedicated member of the Cove Guest Home and Williston House Directors, serving as chairman for four years. He was an avid skater and member of the Sydney Curling Club. Archie was the recipient of the 50-year jewel from the Masonic Keith Lodge, No. 23, Moncton, N.B. He was a member of St. George's Anglican Church until amalgamation with Christ the King Church. The funeral will be held at Christ the King Church, Trinity Avenue, at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19. Reception following in the church hall. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cove Guest Home Foundation or a charity of choice. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Levinia Lays. She will always be remembered for her sense of humour and her love for life. She was employed for 25 years at St. Rita Hospital in the dietary department. She is survived by daughters, Helen Patterson, Sydney, Bernadette MacIsaac (Ernie), Lower Sackville; daughter-in-law, Theresa Carroll; son-in-law, Garf Walsh; 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by husbands, Bernie Carroll and Eddie Doucette, son, Richard, daughter, Theresa Walsh and son-in-law, Tom Patterson Sr. Visitation took place Sunday, Aug. 17 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Heart Church 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18 with Rev. Gerald Dunphy officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. Passed away peacefully in Brampton, on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008. Predeceased by his former wife Mary Carmel MacDonald. Proud father of Ken (Judy), Cathy (Doug Kirkey), Don (Linda), Yvonne (Ron Stinson) and Tom (Margerete). Beloved Grandpa of Melissa, Tim, and Ashley Farrell, Lori (Chris Sheppard) and Katie (Adam Prosser) Kirkey, Kristy (Ben Jones) and Kelly Farrell, Daniel and Lisa Stinson and Ian and Erin Farrell. Much loved great-grandpa of Teagan. Son of the late John Joseph Farrell and Sadie MacDonald of East Bay, N.S. Survived by siblings Mike (Kay), Mary Blake (Gerald), Rita Briand (Peter), Jim (Catherine), Effie Chipman (Bobby), Sally Sampson (Charles) and Joe (Carol). Predeceased by siblings Danny (Angie), Theresa MacNeil (Johnny), Margie Curry (Bernie) and Annie MacIsaac (Sonny). Dad was a driver for TTC and Grey Coach from 1952-1986. He enjoyed reminiscing about his many driving adventures. Dad spent his retirement years in Cape Breton before returning to Ontario in 2006 to live with Ken. He will be sorely missed by his large extended family and his beloved dog Barney. Cherished Papa of Jacalyn Rosenblatt and Benjamin Raby, Dana Rosenblatt and Daniel Flanders, Mara Green and fiancé Michael Cohen and Alexis Green. Devoted Papa Harold of Sydney and Ariella Raby, and Abigail Flanders. Dear brother of Doris. Predeceased by his sisters Fran, Irma, Ronnie, Stella, and his brother, Sol. He will be fondly remembered by his in-laws, many nieces and nephews, all members of his extended family, as well as his friends and business associates from the Food Centre in Stephenville, N.L. and Grumpy's in Glace Bay. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of Gordon and Sarah (Morrison) Ferguson. She was a member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church. Arline was a Cum Laude graduate of Mount Allison University Class of 1957, and a graduate of Provincial Normal College Class of 1953. She taught at Morrison Glace Bay High School for several years before starting her family. Aside from her interests in history, language and literature, she was very active in the affairs of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church until her illness. Arline is survived by her husband of 51 years, Charles MacVicar; sons, Ian (Nancy), Hammonds Plains, Neil (Mary), Albert Bridge, Allan (Mary), Bedford; daughter, Morah (Brian) McKinlay, Glace Bay; grandchildren, Sarah, Lindsay, Katie, Allan, Laura; stepgrandchildren, Chris, Daniel and Ryan. Also surviving are sister, Norma (George) Beresford, Glace Bay; brother, Stewart (Anne) Ferguson, Mineville; sister-in-law, Martha, Toronto; brother-in-law, Donald (Ann) Bedford; sister-in-law, Isabel MacVicar, Black Point; and many nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held in her honour Wednesday, Aug. 20 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Rev. Lloyd Murdock officiating. Born in Falmouth, she was the daughter of the late Lawson and Lillian (Wile) Stevens. She was a member of of Knox United Church, Blackett's Lake. Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Gladys Marion, Blackett's Lake; son, Roger (Pauline), Cochrane, Alta.; sisters, Pearl Winters, Kitchener, Ont., Christine Stevens, Walkerton, Ont.; brothers, Lawrence (Helen), East Bay, Robert (Sherry), Barrie, Ont., Ted (Anna), Fergus, Ont., Stuart (Lisa), Chicago, Ill.; grandchildren, William Marion, Rae Morrison, Ian Morrison and James Morrison. She was predeceased by her husband, Malcolm (Bud) Morrison, sisters, Kay Balsillie, Irene Flood and Josephine Ferguson. Visitation was held Sunday, 7-9 p.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel. A graveside service will take place Monday, Aug. 18 at 11 a.m. at John Pringle Cemetery, Blackett's Lake with Rev. Jackie MacDonald officiating.
