    3. Cape Breton Deaths August 25, 2008 Monday Gordon David Strickland 67, Ingonish - G. David Strickland, 67, of Ingonish, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with his family by his side. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Gordon and Lucy (Primmer) Strickland. He worked with Maritime Life in Sydney, then later formed Strickland In-vest Agencies Ltd. until retirement. David was active in Barbershop and the Cape Breton Chorale, Masonic Lodge MacKay No. 115, Scottish Rite and Shriner's Philae Temple. David was past president of the Whitney Pier Y's Men Club and then served as district governor of Nova Scotia, regional director of the Maritimes and Canadian area president of Y's Men. He was a member of the North of Smokey Lion's Club. He was a tissue donor. David and Terry wintered in Florida where he was active with Sahib Temple of Sarasota in their choir and as Shrine Clown ("Stumpie.") David is survived by his loving wife, Theresa "Terry" (Flood); two sons, MacKenzie (Kenzie) and Kristian; aunts, Dorothy Martin and Olive Canning; mother-in-law, Jeanne; sisters-in-law, Carmel, Shirley, Carol and Mary. He was predeceased by infant son, Shawn. Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, Aug. 26 and Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at United Baptist Church, Thursday, Aug. 28, 11 a.m. with Rev. Allan MacLellan officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will be held in Ingonish at a later date. A Masonic Service will be held Tuesday, Aug. 26, at 6:45 p.m. at the chapel. Memorials may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation, Buchanan Memorial Hospital Foundation, or charity of choice. Born in Sydney, October 1, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Jessie (MacSween) Richey. Her love for family and friends was evident in her baking and a good strong cup of tea. You could hear the sound of music in the house all the time. She is survived by her loving husband, Parker; daughter, Vivian; and sons, Edward, Vincent, Donald, James; and 10 grandchildren. She is also survived by sister, Audrey; half-brother, Tommy McCarthy (Victoria) and half-sisters, Helen Powell (Sydney) and Norma "Toots" Frost (Saint John). She was predeceased by brothers, Douglas (Rocky), and Howard (Bolly). Visitation will take place Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the S.W. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Christina (Brown) Steele. She was employed at the Airport restaurant later working at the Glace Bay General Ped's Department as a nurse's aid. She was also a nanny for Terry and Carol Chiasson. Veronica did a great deal of volunteering; she catered for the Brookshaven Hall and was very active in the CWL Immaculate Heart Parish, Mira Road and St. Anthony's Parish, Glace Bay. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Thomas Justin Trainor, former employee of the town of Glace Bay; children, Pius (Christine), Betty Ann (Dean) Hines, Christine (Chris) Hines, Justine (Mike) O'Grady, Peggy (Kenny) MacDonald, Bernadine, Norma (Bernie) Barter, Alana (Tony), and T.J and siblings, Michael, Kaye Ford, Norma Nother, Billy Stubbert, and David. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and numerous family and close friends. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by siblings, Douglas, Anne, Gertrude and two sons, Michael and Frederick. Born in Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Catherine (MacIntosh) Aucoin. She was a member of Holy Family Parish. Veronica is survived by her two daughters; Diane Romard, Patsy (Fred) Warren; daughter-in-law, Linda Hanrahan; two sons, David (Mary), Michael (Debbie); son-in-law, Guy Viger; one sister, Sharon (Billie) Clarke; one brother, Steve (Beef) Aucoin and by her special cat, Callie. She is also survived by a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Veronica was predeceased by her husband, Alonzo Hanrahan; daughter, Annette Viger; sons, Lonnie and Roger Hanrahan; son-in-law, Joe Romard; sisters, Stasia, Merrill Aucoin, Mary Reed, Jennie Hurley; brothers, Kenny, Lawrence and Johnnie Aucoin. Born in Montreal, she was the daughter of the late John and Catherine (Murphy) King. Mary Agnes was always willing to help anyone in need. She is survived by five daughters, Rose Muller (Mike Chatson), Sydney, Germaine (Doug) McCormick, Ontario, Catherine (Charlie) Phillips, Sydney, Florence (Donald) Powell, Sydney, Nancy Wilson, Ontario; six sons, John "Jack" (Pat) Muller, Sydney, Melvin (Janice) Muller, Ontario, Harry Muller, Sydney, Sandy Muller, Sydney, Lawrence (Madonna), Sydney, Victor (Caroline) Muller, Sydney. She is also survived many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her very good friend, Catherine Kennedy. Dawe, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, on August 23, 2008 at the Northside General Hospital. Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Ned and Margaret (Dawe) Murphy and stepson of the late Edward Murphy. He was employed as a carpenter for most of his life. He was a member of the A N Unit, 381, Bras d'Or and served in the Black Watch Military. He is survived by his loving companion, Lila, with whom he enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. Also surviving are daughters, Dale (Leonard) MacLean, Bras d'Or, Bernadette (Wilson) LeBlanc, Fort McMurray and Dorothy, Ontario; stepsons, Ernie (Josephine) Bras d'Or, Myles, Bras d'Or, Laurie Cormier, Amherst and his stepdaughter, Ann Marie (Billy) of Amherst. He is also survived by sisters, Eleanor Brown, Joggins and Theresa (Garth) An Holt, Alberta, as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, George, and his brother, Andrew. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held today (Monday, August 25) at 10:30 a.m. in the Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, Fr. Hugh MacNeil officiating. Burial will be held at a later date.
