    3. Cape Breton Deaths August 16, 2008 Saturday John L. Sidney 75, Doyles, Newfoundland - With heavy hearts and great sadness, we the brothers and sisters of John Sidney announce the passing of our dear brother Jack at Western Memorial Hospital, Corner Brook, Newfoundland, on Aug. 9, 2008, following a lengthy and courageous battle. Born in Port Credit, Ontario, on May 24, 1933, he was the son of Leonard and Edna Sidney. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Dorothy, his sons Glen (Linda), Oregon, USA, David (Gail), Winnipeg, Man., stepson Dorman (Cathy), Pasadena, Newfoundland, brothers Bill (Irma), Sydney, N.S., Leonard (Myrtle), Dominion, N.S., and sister Eleanor (Leo), Mississauga, Ont. John was a former member of the Royal Canadian Navy, having served in many locations in both Canada and the USA. Upon leaving the navy, he resided in Sydney, N.S., for a time before moving to Newfoundland where he operated Scottish Aluminium Products in Corner Brook for many years. John will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humour and his strong personality. Remembrances may be sent to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. R. #1, Doyles, Newfoundland, A0N 1J0. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Margaret Ellen MacNeil 85, New Victoria - We regret to announce the death of Margaret Ellen MacNeil of New Victoria on Aug. 13, 2008, at the Glace Bay General Hospital, after a lengthy illness. Born in Ingonish, she was the eldest daughter of the late Lillian and Joseph MacKinnon. She will be sadly missed by her children, Brenda MacNeil, New Victoria, Louise (Reg) Jewer, New Victoria, Malcolm Jr. (Nina) MacNeil, Whitney Pier, Danny "Dikey" (Eunice) MacNeil, Sydney River, Francis MacNeil, Edmonton, Alta.; her sisters, Annie Mae MacKinnon, Melinda MacKinnon, both of New Victoria, Evelyn (Jimmy) Lund, Dutch Brook; her brothers, Jack MacKinnon, Whitney Pier, Billy (Eileen) MacKinnon, Peter (Terry) MacKinnon, both of Sydney. Margaret is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Malcolm MacNeil; sisters, Mamie Taylor, Sabina MacKinnon; brothers, Phillip, Mikey, Danny MacKinnon, one brother in infancy and grandson, Jody Jewer. McGillivray Funeral Home Ltd., 380 Smith St., New Waterford, visitation took place yesterday (Friday, Aug. 15) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held today (Saturday, Aug. 16) at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, New Victoria, with Fr. Paul MacNeil officiating. Interment to take place in St. Joseph's Church Cemetery, New Victoria. Special thanks to the staff of Seaview Manor and to the nursing staff of the Glace Bay General Hospital, for providing excellent care. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chant's Funeral Home. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Jacqueline Levera Baker (Monk) 40, Edson Alberta - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jacqueline Levera Baker of Edson, Alberta, on August 9, 2008 due to a motor vehicle accident. Left to mourn her loss is her mother, Susan Monk, and step-father, Wally Monk, of Howie Centre, Nova Scotia; children, Julian Mahmoudi of Toronto, Ontario, Jessica and Taylor Baker of Abbotsford, British Columbia; sister, Melannie Clark of Morinville, Alberta; step-brother, Kendall Monk of Edmonton, Alberta, and step-sister, Pamela Monk of Oyama, British Columbia. Also surviving is her special friend, Robert Mellersh of Edson, Alberta; aunts, uncles, several nieces and nephews and step-grandmother, Anne Knox of Glace Bay and many other friends. Jacqueline was predeceased by her father, Aubrey Baker, and grandparents. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date by the family. He will hold you in his arms and the angels will sing as another one of his children is delivered by white wings. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ John Joseph MacFarlane 63, Southwest Margaree - John Joseph MacFarlane, 63, of Southwest Margaree, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2008 at the Inverary Manor, Inverness. Born in Inverness, he was the son of the late John Joseph and Ruth Eleanor (Carroll) MacFarlane. He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish, Southwest Margaree. John will be sadly missed by his many friends, nieces and nephews. He is survived by brothers, Fr. Ronald MacFarlane S.F.M (Toronto), Donald MacFarlane (Monika), Montreal, Peter (Betty) MacFarlane, Southwest Margaree, Gerard (Donna) MacFarlane, Southwest Margaree; sisters, Ann Smith, Long Point, and Mary Rose Detcher, Dartmouth. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Hugh S. and George, and sisters, Helen Sperry and Margaret MacFarlane. Visitation for the late Mr. MacFarlane will take place on Sunday, August 17, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at Inverness Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 18 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, Southwest Margaree with Rev. Jim MacDonald officiating. Interment in St. Joseph Parish Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Inverary Manor, Inverness. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Stephen Lawrence MacIsaac 57 - Stephen Lawrence MacIsaac, 57, of Timmins, Ontario, died peacefully surrounded by family at home in Nova Scotia on August 13, 2008. Born and raised in Troy, Cape Breton, Steve was the son of Mary Ann (MacInnis) MacIsaac and the late Donald Angus MacIsaac. Steve is survived by his sisters, Agnes (Jack) Chisholm, Antigonish, Beverly (Dave) Barter, Wellington; brothers, Johnny and Gabriel (Valerie), Troy, Cape Breton, Jerome (Kelly), Bedford, and nieces and nephews whom he held close to his heart. Steve is also survived by heartfelt friends, Pierette (Marcel), Sudbury, and Lynn (Timmins). Steve was predeceased by sister, Shirley; brother, Joseph, and special companion, "Max" (his dog). Steve was a passionate athlete who excelled in swimming, boxing, judo and skiing. His athletic skill-set could be quickly brought to the forefront without warning if required. A thank you is being extended on behalf of Steve to Dr. Armstrong in Timmins for unrelenting support; to Nurse Christine from Palliative Care for her emotional nurturing during his final journey and Barb from the VON for such loving, individual and peaceful care. Church service will be held Sunday, August 17, at 2 p.m. at Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church in Creignish with burial to follow. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Angela Bernard March 11, 1944 - August 13, 2008 Coxheath - We regret to announce the death of Angela Bernard, 64, of Coxheath, on August 13, 2008, at her home. Angela was the daughter of Mary Jane Bernard and the late Joseph Bernard. Angela was a resident of Resi-Care Cape Breton Association, 11 Clyde Ave., Sydney Mines for a number of years, and the Braemore Small Option Home, Coxheath until the time of her death. She was also a member of Wagmatcook Band 99. She will be sadly missed by her special friends, Tobie and Frances; her cousin, Alexander Bernard, Wagmatcook and her guardian, Betty Simpson, Sydney Mines. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines. A memorial service will take place on Tuesday, August 19, 2008, at 10 a.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel.
