Halifax Herald July 23, 1964 SYDNEY MINES - Mrs. Ernest Matthews, Lamond Street, a Sydney Mines resident for 58 years, died Tuesday morning at Harbour View Hospital. She was 82. She was born in Port aux Basques, Nfld., the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Isadore Chaisson. She was a member of Carmen United Church. Surviving besides her husband, are eight daughters: Annie (Mrs. Chester Miller), Rhode Island; Melvena (Mrs. Roy Harris) and Mrs. Ethel Prout, both of Boston, Mass.; Elma (Mrs. Philip Jakaley), Cornwall, Ont.; Violet (Mrs. Donald Caldwell) and Freda (Mrs. Duncan MacKenzie), both of Sydney Mines; Ruth (Mrs. Charles Reardon), Florence; Miss Cecelia Matthews, Sydney; four sons, William, Vincent, Hugh, all of Sydney and Victor, at home; one sister, Mrs. Richard Rose, Halifax.
