    3. Can anyone help with the following please: Angus McLEOD b. Stoer, Sutherland Scotland married 9 Jul 1844 Catherine McLEOD b. Badnabbon, Scotland about 1828 Daughter Jane born 15 Jun 1845, Assynt, Sutherland, mrd George Frederick BRAGGINS b. Oxford 2 Mar 1845 in Newton, Auckland 8 Nov 1864. George had arrived in NZ in 1863 with a letter of introduction to a Church minister in Otago but the letter was never acted upon. Instead, George stayed in Auckland working in the timber trade. He apparently travelled frequently between Auckland and Ngaruawahia. His brother Edwin Robert BRAGGINS joined him in 1866. They both held a land grant about 1865 for two plots of land in the Waikare Parish just north east of Kawakawa, which is a short distance north of Waipu where so many of the Rev Norman McLEOD's people settled. In fact, there has been some mention that Angus was related in some way to the Rev Norman McLEOD. Angus had died by 1864 when daughter Jane mrd. Her mother Catherine had married a George CRAIG in 1863 in Newton. She was 35, a milliner and had been living in Newton (Auckland) for 3 years. George (CRAIG) was a widow aged 47 and a fireman on the paddle steamer Tasmanian Maid at the time of the marriage. George BRAGGINS and Jane McLEOD returned to England after the birth of their first two (of 14) children. In a letter written by Samuel Walter BRAGGINS (son of George [BRAGGINS] and Jane) in 1952, he states "My mother [Jane McLEOD] was age 3 years when her uncle met her and my grandmother on the quay". This suggests that Angus had died in Scotland and Jane and her mother had come out to NZ to join the Nova Scotian settlers. In the same letter, he mentions the Margaret and Richard Mitchelson CAMPBELL, MA, LLB (NZ), Ph.D. (London) "....we had much in common to speak about as his father was on the same sailing ship Margaret when they landed in NZ in 1853" There is a certain amount of doubt in the letter, particularly with the suggestion of the Margaret - more likely to be the Gertrude. Is it possible that Angus and Catherine had gone to Nova Scotia to be with Rev Norman and his followers, and that Angus had died there? If anyone has any knowledge about Angus or Catherine and their daughter Jane McLEOD, I would very much appreciate making contact.
