Cape Breton Deaths August 06, 2008 Wednesday Anne Mae MacKinnon 52, Sydney Mines (Florence) - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anne Mae MacKinnon, Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with the love of her life, Leonard Bonner, by her side. Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late John and Beatrice (Joy) MacKinnon. Anne was a very soft-hearted and strong-willed person who lived her life for what she loved most of all, her partner of 33 years, Leonard Bonner of whom she will be deeply missed. Anne will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by her sisters, Linda (William Foster), Sydney Mines, and Peggy Charles, Vernon, Ont.; her very special friend, Beanie Jessome; in-laws, Violet and Leonard Bonner; her aunts and uncles; five nieces; three nephews; two great-nephews and one great-niece; three sisters-in-law; and many great friends that stood by her side through her short illness. In keeping with Anne's wishes, cremation will take place with a memorial service for the family to take place at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of J.M. Eva Snow 84, North Sydney - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eva Snow, age 84, on Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, at Taigh Solas in the Northside General Hospital, where she resided. Born in Sydney Mines she was a daughter of the late James and Katie (Vickers) McIntosh. Eva was employed for a number of years with Eaton's in North Sydney, she was a member of St. Joseph Church and also a member of the CWL. She always enjoyed a good game of cards, both with her family and friends. Eva will be sadly missed by her son, Robert (Darlene) Snow, George's River; daughter, Cathy (Wayne) Wood, Vancouver; by her two cherished grandchildren, James and Leah Snow; by her sisters, Margaret (Howard) Sexton, Theresa McDermid, Mary Murphy; sister- in-law, Betty McIntosh; and by several nieces and nephews whom she adored. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Cecil Snow, a brother, Douglas McIntosh, brothers-in-law, Donald McDermid and Gerald Murphy. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m., Friday, Aug. 8 in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. She passed away peacefully on Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her family. Rose Marie was the daughter of the late Raymond and Annie Beatrice (Burgey) Keating. She is survived by her daughter, Rose Anne (Tony) Penney, Ben Eoin; and her son, Raymond (Meredith) McGrath, Baddeck; sisters, Gen Chisholm, Sydney, Charlotte (Lal), Coleman, Baddeck, and Anne (Chris) Tiller, Florida. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jennifer, Kathleen, Alexandra and Joshua, as well as many nieces and nephews. Rose Marie was predeceased by her husband, Johnnie and her brother, Raymond 'Buddy' Keating. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, Big Pond. Cremation has taken place. There will be visitation with the family at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Wednesday, Aug. 6 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will take place Thursday, Aug. 7 at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Big Pond, with Rev. Olive is survived by her four sons, Weldon (Sharon), Cobourg, Ont., Everett (Diane), Sydney, Doug (Helen), Mississauga, Ont., Robert (Judy), Sydney; four daughters, Beverly (Pat) and Paula (Gerry), Mississauga, Ont., Patsy and Eleanor (Edward), Sydney; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Greg lived in London for the past 37 years, most of that time employed by Philips Electronics as shipper/receiver. His passion was gardening and landscaping, at which he truly excelled, as evidenced by the 'enchanted paradise that he created in his backyard. Greg was a truly generous spirit who was always eager to lend a helping hand. He touched many hearts during his time here and for that we are all most grateful. Family came first with Greg and this was so apparent in how he lived his life and how he loved us all. Greg is the beloved husband of Donna Podetz (nee Parsons), 70 Roman Cres., London (formerly of North Sydney); loving father of son Nick (Doreen Sowinski); daughter Brenda, and dear grampy of Natasha, Alicia, and Nicholas. Forever remembered by brothers, John (Linda) and George (Debbie), Sydney Mines - our annual 'excursions' will be greatly missed. Greg was predeceased by his parents, Stephen and Anna (Mills) and brothers, Georgie, Stephen (late Sandra Degaust) and an infant brother. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces , nephews, relatives (including the entire Parsons family who thought so highly of him) and all those who knew him. Fort Colborne, Ont., announces his passing after a short and courageous battle with cancer. John passed away quietly on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008, in the company of his wife Donna and son, Michael in the Welland Hospital. Born on July 11, 1946, in North Sydney, he was a son of Jeanne (Regan) and the late Byron MacDonald. John spent his younger years in his beloved Cape Breton before joining the Royal Canadian Navy in 1964, where he began his career as an electrician. A lifelong member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, his work took him to many places across Canada before he and his family settled in Fort Colborne, Ont. John is survived and will be sadly missed by wife, Donna (Murray); sons, Michael and David, Fort Colborne, Bill (William) and wife, Tanya and John and wife Melissa, Prince Albert, Sask.; grandchildren, Trystan, Taylor, Jillian and Scotia; mother, Jeanne and brothers, Mike and Hugh, all of Halifax; family members, Don and Dave Murray, Sydney, Australia, Tara Grant and Audra Sterken, Acton, Ont., and Beverly and Ilanna Wise, Ohio. John was a member of the United Church of Canada and a past member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 19, The Orange Lodge and the Northern Yacht Club in North Sydney. On line condolences may be e-mailed to therebel100@live.ca. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Wilfred Edward Biggs Age 61 - After a courageous 18-month battle with brain cancer, Wil passed away peacefully and with dignity with his wife, Elizabeth, at his side and his family close by on Aug. 5, 2008, in the Oromocto Public Hospital. Wil was born Nov. 23, 1946, in Longueuil, Que. As a teenager, Wil was an Army cadet and from there he moved on to the militia and joined 30 Field Squadron RCE. On April 28, 1967, Wilfred joined the regular force as a sapper with his first posting being Gagetown N.B. He gave 37 years as a military engineer and was best known to most of his comrades as Bill Biggs - W.O.W.E.! He travelled throughout his military career, with postings to Germany 1971, Petawawa 1974, Cornwallis 1977, Alert 1978, Gagetown 1980, Ottawa 1984, Chilliwack 1992 and Oromocto 1997, where he remained until his retirement in 2002. Wilfred enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He loved to work with his hands, was passionate about gardening and loved to make people laugh. Upon retirement from the military, Dec. 13, 2002, Wilfred joined the team at Kent Building Supplies in Fredericton, N.B. He was nicknamed 'The gate keeper.' Upon semi-retirement he travelled to Ireland and Paris, France with friends and family. He was predeceased by mother, Beryl (Pat) Victoria (Brown) and son, Douglas Arthur Biggs. Born in New Victoria, he was the son of the late Daniel and Theresa (MacPhee) Cameron. As a young man, Greg lived in Toronto for 20 years, before returning home to work in the coal mines, Lingan Colliery, until he retired in 1992. Greg was an avid golfer, a past member of the Lingan Golf and Country Club, loved to travel to their country home in D'Escousse, as well as Cape Cod, Mass., and enjoyed playing hockey, baseball and curling in his earlier years. Greg is survived by his loving wife, Julia (Poirier) Cameron, Sydney; a sister, Irene (Sandy) Wilson, New Victoria; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be sorely missed by his constant companion, his poodle, GiGi. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his parents-in-law, Nicholas and Castilda Poirier, D'Escousse, brothers, Phonse, Mickey, Tony, Johnny (The Bat) and sisters, Violet Brenna, Margaret (Charlie R.) MacDonald, Ester MacVarish and Sadie LeFevre. By his request, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A funeral mass to celebrate Greg's life will be held Friday, Aug. 8 at 11 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard/St. Joseph Church, New Victoria, with a luncheon to follow in the church hall, all are invited.
