Cape Breton Deaths October 30, 2008 Raegan Michael Bernard 11, We'Koqma'q First Nation - It is with deep regret and sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved son, Raegan Michael Bernard, age 11, which occurred on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, in IWK Health Centre, Halifax. He was a loving son of Amy Nichole Bernard and George 'GT' Toney of We'Koqma'q. Raegan was a Grade 6 student attending We'Koqma'q Mikmaq School. He was known as a very happy child with an abundance of friends and family and dimples that would melt your heart. His favourite pastimes were playing his X Box, computer games, trading and collecting Pokemon cards and listening to music. His greatest joy was being in the company of his best friends who he leaves behind to mourn, Dimitri Bernard, Michael Sylliboy, Felix Bernard, Cody Crowe and many more. Also left to mourn besides his parents are brothers, Dylan Charles and Evander Joseph and only sister, Lara Emilynne, all at home. Surviving members also include his maternal grandparents, Walter Bernard, We'Koqma'q; June (Christmas) MacNeil, Membertou; paternal grandparent, Emily (Johnson) Toney, Eskasoni; aunts, Ericka (Fabian) Toney, We'Koqma'q, Michelle Marshall, Chapel Island, Virginia Toney, Cornelia (Albert) Cabot and Sonya (James) Toney, all of Eskasoni; uncles, Jonathan Marshall, Chapel Island, Stuart Toney, Eskasoni, Andrew Phillips, We'Koqma'q; godparents, Angela Googoo, Peter Bernard and Andrea 'Poopsie' Paul, all of We'Koqma'q. Raegan was predeceased by paternal grandfather, George Toney Sr., great-grandparents, Charlie and Annie Mae Bernard, We'Koqma'q; Raymond and Mary (Bridget) Christmas, Membertou; as well as godparents, Russell Christmas Sr., Membertou, and Darrell Googoo, We'Koqma'q. At the request of his parents, Raegan's organs were donated. Visitation will be held at the family residence, 73 Kiptu Rd., We'Koqma'q, after 4 p.m. today (Thursday). Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m., Saturday in Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, We'Koqma'q, Fr. Robert McNeil officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Lionel MacNeil Toronto/New Waterford - It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our brother, father and grandfather, Lionel MacNeil on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008. Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Roderick and Margaret (MacNeil) MacNeil. Lionel lived most of his life working for the City of Toronto. Lionel is survived by his children in Ontario, Kathy (Tignish), Billy and Michael and by numerous grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, Donald, Neil and Adrian, all of New Waterford, Malcolm, Truro; sisters, Rodena (Eldon) Burke, New Waterford, Mary, Ontario, Audrey Anderson, Montreal, Darlene (Mike), Dartmouth, Phyllis (Dave) Thompson, Dartmouth. He was predeceased by his wife, Carmella (Burke) MacNeil, daughter, Sonya, sister, Jeanette and brother, Kevin. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time but will be announced at a later date. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Alexander John Shaw Baddeck - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Alexander John Shaw, 87, of Baddeck on Oct. 28, 2008, in Victoria County Memorial Hospital. Born in Sydney, he was a son of the late Neil and Cassie (Dawson) Shaw. He was employed for 25 years with Bethune Esso and the Department of Natural Resources. He was a member of Greenwood United Church, Baddeck. He was a veteran of the Second World War. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, the former Mary C. MacInnis; sons, Dan Neil (Kaye), Rhybyrn (Debby), Kenneth (Gwynn), Jamie (Charlene); daughter, Catherine; brother-in-law, Kenneth Morrison, Sydney; sister-in-law, Doreen Shaw, Ontario; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by brother, Donnie, sister, Helen, three great-grandchildren in infancy. Visitation 2-5 and 7-9 p.m., Saturday in MacAskill Funeral Home, Baddeck. Funeral 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, in Greenwood United Church, Rev. Karen Lynch officiating. Burial will be in St. Andrews Cemetery. Family flowers only by request. Donations may be made to Greenwood United Church or a charity of your choice. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Thomas Lamont 'Monty' Campbell 60, Cheticamp - Thomas Lamont 'Monty' Campbell, 60, of Cheticamp, passed away suddenly Oct. 28, 2008, at home. Born in Baddeck, he was a son of the late Thomas and Sadie (MacDonald) Campbell. He worked as a supervisor for Nova Scotia Power for 32 years. A devoted father, husband and grandfather to a special grandson. His favourite hobbies were gardening and playing cribbage. He is survived by his wife, Germaine Aucoin; one son, Tommy (Wanda) Campbell, Cheticamp; one brother, Edwin Campbell, Baddeck; one brother-in-law, Lloyd MacRitchie, Baddeck; many nieces and nephews; and one grandson, Cameron Campbell. He was predeceased by one brother, Garfield Campbell and one sister, Elsie MacRitchie. No visitation as per his wishes. Cremation has taken place. Interment at a later date. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cheticamp Funeral Services Ltd. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mable Dorothy MacInnes 85, Jersey Cove - Mable Dorothy MacInnes, 85, Jersey Cove, Victoria County, died Oct. 28, 2008, in Alderwood Rest Home. Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Wilfred and Emily (Morgan) Boudreau. She is survived by sons, Neil (Fran), Point Edward, Bill, Delroy (Ann), Jersey Cove; daughter, Sylvia (Walter) Silver, Ontario; sisters, Rita, Yvonne (George), Sydney, Isabel, Rhode Island; five grandchildren, Sylvia, Mark, Sonya, Jason, Daniel; five great-grandchildren, Alexis, Robyn, Ella, Callum, Teirnan. She was predeceased by her husband, Horace E. MacInnes, brother, Bill. The body is resting in St. Ann's Bay United Church, Indian Brook, with visitation 3-7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 31, and where funeral will be 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 1, Rev. Shirley Murdock officiating. Burial will be in MacDonald Memorial Cemetery, Breton Cove. Donations to St. Ann's Bay United Church. Arrangements are under the direction of MacAskill Funeral Home, Baddeck. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mary MacKinnon 87, Sydney - Mary Catherine MacKinnon, 87, a resident of the Cove Guest Home, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, at the Cove. Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Ann (Hutchinson) MacIsaac. Surviving are her stepdaughter, Mary, Victoria, B.C.; daughters, Heather Weatherbee, Ruth Madden, Cheryl Feener, all of Sydney; sons, Bernie (Claire) Landry, Kitchener, Ont., Ernest, Dartmouth; stepson, Henry (Laura), Hay River, N.W.T.; son-in-law, Darryl; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Calvin in 2007, sister, Annie White and brother, Bernard. Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at Sydney Memorial Chapel from 2-4 p.m., with a prayer service at 4 p.m., Rev. Robert Lyle officiating.
