Cape Breton Deaths October 03, 2008 Friday Elizabeth Yvonne Fisher 'Ma Fisher' 1944-2008 - It is with sad hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Elizabeth Fisher 'Ma Fisher' after a battle with cancer on Tuesday Sept. 30, 2008, at home, with her son, John and wife, Patricia Hurly and daughter, Wendy by her side. Elizabeth was the daughter of the late John Walter and Amanda Fisher. Elizabeth is survived by brothers, Butch, Ontario, Malcolm, James, Toronto; sisters, Kay, Cambridge, Ont., Rose, Utah, Stella, Kitchener, Ont., Agnes Russell, Glace Bay; sons, Charlie (Tanya), Glace Bay, Morris (Connie), Calgary, Keith (Peggy), B.C.; daughters, Wendy (Alan), Sydney Mines, Elizabeth, Calgary; and several grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, Elizabeth was predeceased by a brother, Neil and sister, Shirley. A heartfelt thank you to Heather Skinner and Palliative Care, the VON, Home Care, the Cancer Centre, their doctor's and staff, Tom MacNeil, family and friends. Arrangements are under the direction of Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay, 849-7520. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Funeral service Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at St. Mary's Anglican Church at 11 a.m. with Rev. Vernon Reed officiating. Interment to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Garnier 74, North Sydney - It is with sadness the family announce the passing of their brother and uncle, Wallace Jude Garnier, 74, Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, at the Northside General Hospital. Born in North Sydney, he was the son of the late James and Sadie (Ogden) Garnier. He was employed with Marine Atlantic for a number of years and after moving to Ontario was employed with Domtar in Kitchener, Ont. until his retirement. He then returned to North Sydney, he was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney. Wallace was a C.B. Radio operator which he enjoyed very much and most recently he enjoyed participating in a bowling league in North Sydney. He is survived by his four brothers, Don Garnier, Sydney, Lonnie Garnier, North Sydney, John (Josie) Garnier, Oromocto, N.B., and Clyde (Evelyn) Garnier, Ottawa, Ont.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Jim, Sidney, Terry and Reg Garnier, sisters, Patricia Hamilton, Shirley Roussell and Polly Young. There will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass for Wallace will be held 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 6 at St. Joseph Church with Rev. James Attwood officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
