    3. Cape Breton Deaths October 16, 2008 Thursday Florence Sarah 'Flossie' MacVicar 85, Sydney, N.S. - It is with sadness but also with the recognition of and respect for a life well-lived that the family and friends of Florence Sarah 'Flossie' MacVicar, born and raised at Mira Gut, a 35-year resident of Marion Bridge and most recently a guest of the Cove Guest Home, announce her passing on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008. Florence was in her 86th year and was recently ill. She passed away peaceably at the Cove in the presence of loved ones. She was the only child of the late Leo and Katie Ann MacVicar of Mira Gut. There she lived for the first part of her life, moving to Marion Bridge in early 1968 when she took up residence with the Munroes and Delaneys. They quickly became part of her family and she theirs. This relationship lasted for the next 40 years. She was particularly close to Dan Munroe, Lorraine Delaney (Munroe), her husband Lawrence and their three sons, David, Donald and Jimmie. Florence was a member of Union Presbyterian Church, Mira Ferry, regularly attending services both there and at St. Columba Church, Marion Bridge. She enjoyed a variety of church activities, participating in Guild and suppers among other events. She was also a member of the Mira Seniors Association, participating as well in its many activities at the Munroe Centre. The many fine people involved in both played a wonderful role in her life. She was kind and considerate to all, being naturally charitable and enjoying the company of all people. She was witty, full of fun and her presence was always a pleasure for those who experienced it. Florence loved animals, always having a cat that she treated with her customary fine nature. She loved life, always demonstrating appreciation and consideration to others and never complained. In this respect she never changed. When her advancing years took a physical toll on her she moved to the Cove Guest Home. There she took to the staff and residents with love and gratitude. Mere words could not adequately describe all they were and meant to her. Florence is survived by her close friend, Dan Munroe; his sister, Lorraine and her family. She is and will forever be deeply missed and fondly and lovingly remembered. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, N.S., 862-7500. Her remains will rest at St. Columba Church, Marion Bridge, Friday, Oct. 17 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with her funeral being conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 18 from Union Presbyterian Church with Pastor Kevin Richardson officiating.
