Cape Breton Deaths October 21, 2008 Tuesday T. Rose Gale (Campbell) Jan. 30, 1930-Oct. 18, 2008 Sydney, N.S. - It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Theresa 'Rose' Gale (Campbell), late of 312 Esplanade, Sydney, on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, surrounded by her family at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, following a brief illness. Rose was born in Millville, Nfld., and was the second youngest of 13 children born to the late Isidore and Annie (McInnis) Gale. She was a member of Sacred Heart parish in Sydney. Rose moved to Sydney in 1950 and worked for many years at Crowells. She later moved to Woodstock, Ont., where she worked for Bell Canada as a telephone operator. She moved back to Cape Breton in 1960 and stayed at home to raise her girls. Rose returned to work at the Sydney City Hospital in 1975 as switchboard operator until her retirement in 1993. Rose has touched many lives and will be fondly remembered as someone who enjoyed life to its fullest with fun, laughter and dancing. Mom was always ready for a game of cards. To know her was to love her! Rose is survived by her three loving daughters, Sharon Thorne (and her fiancé Robin Campbell), Deborah Campbell (and her partner-in-life, Jerry Ryan), and Sheila (Mike) MacGillivary, all of Sydney. Nana is also survived by five grandchildren, Erica, Amanda, Michael (our only boy), Brianna and Danielle. G-G is also survived by three great-granddaughters, Theresa, Ashlynn and Rachel. Rose is also survived by her sister, Loretta Bauer, Sydney and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Rose was predeceased by her husband, Leo Campbell (1992), two sisters, Mary MacNeil and Margaret Gale (in infancy) and nine brothers, Gus, Arthur, John Francis, Isidore, Tom, Michael, Aiden, Joseph and Matthew. Rose's family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the City Homemakers Society for the wonderful care they have given to Mom over the past number of years which enabled her to live in her own home and maintain her independence. We also appreciate the medical support provided by the VON while Mom was at home. Rose's children would also like to express our sincere appreciation to the staff at the ICU in Glace Bay and the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the excellent care provided to Mom while she was in hospital. Special thanks to Dr. Ajayi and Dr. Wong for your valiant efforts on Mom's behalf. And of course thank you to Dr. Mike Ryan for his continued care and support for Mom over the years. Visitation for Mom will take place at S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, Tuesday, Oct. 21 from 5-9 p.m. The funeral mass will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008, at St. Columba Church, Iona, with Fr. Paul Abbass officiating. As it was Mom's wish to be laid to rest next to our father, burial will take place in the St. Columba Parish Cemetery in Iona, overlooking the beautiful Bras d'Or Lakes. God Bless you, Mom! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Florann 'Flo' Marie (MacLean) Gilmet 1939-2008 Reserve Mines - It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden death of our dear wife and mother, Florann 'Flo' Gilmet, age 69, of Neville Street, Reserve Mines. Flo passed away on Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex. Born in Reserve Mines, she was the daughter of the late Randel and Flora (MacMullin) MacLean. Flo was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Reserve Mines. Her greatest passion was playing bingo with all her 'Bingo Buddies.' Flo leaves behind her loving husband of 46 years, Joseph; daughter, Joanne (Brian Sinclair), Glace Bay; sons, Derrick (Kim), Dominion, and Corey, at home; four cherished grandchildren, B.J. (Brian), Kevin, Nellena and Edward; brother, Alfred (Isabel) and three sisters, Wilma (Herbert Gregory), Margie (late, Buddy McNeil), Dollina (Robert Pittman); and numerous, nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Phillip, Mickie, Alley, John, Pete, Cecil 'Dee', Jimmy and a brother and sister in infancy, Joseph and Mary Ellen. Visitation for Flo Gilmet will be held Wednesday 7-9 p.m. and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, 2 p.m. at St. Joseph's Church, Reserve Mines. Fr. Gerald Campbell will be officiating. Cremation will follow. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. With her family by her side, she was reunited with her husband Doug who predeceased her in July 1985. Born in Reserve Mines on Oct. 21, 1927, Gilbert lived and raised her family in Sydney and later moved to Dartmouth to be close to her children. She will be deeply missed by her children, Doug (Ruth), Dartmouth, Tom, Halifax, Maurina Fleck (Brian), Ottawa, and Lorenna Hines (Steven), Dartmouth. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren, Rebecca, Catherine, Morgan, Maria, Andrew, Jordon, Alyssa, Stephanie, Kyle and Lora; and her great-granddaughter, Emma, all of whom she loved dearly. Gilbert was the daughter of the late Henry and Mary Jane Marsh and was predeceased by her brothers, Joseph, James, Alphonse, Dennis, Sylvester, Henry and sisters, Mary and Delores. She is survived by brothers, Coady, Gannon, Stewart, Anthony and Joseph, sisters, Zita, Adofis, Maurina and Marie. Gilbert was a registered nurse who trained at St. Joseph's Hospital in Glace Bay. She spent most of her career in the maternity ward of St. Rita's Hospital in Sydney, where she lovingly cared for many mothers and babies. Visitation at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney, Thursday, Oct. 23 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, Main Street, Reserve Mines, at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 24. A reception to follow in the church hall. Family interment service at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. Donations to the Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of choice. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Agnes (Paruch) Mikulas 100, Sydney - It is with regret the family of Agnes (Paruch) Mikulas announces her passing Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Frances Paruch. Agnes lived most of her life in the United States, mainly in Detroit, where she married her husband, Emil Mikulas in 1935. After the death of her husband in 1979, she returned to Sydney to be with family. Left to mourn are her sisters, Frances (Gino) Mei, Sudbury, and Teresa (Arnold) MacQueen, Sydney; sisters-in-law, Flo Paruch, Caroline Paruch and Pam Paruch; many nieces and nephews; grandnieces and nephews and great-grandnieces and nephews, throughout Canada and the United States. Besides her husband, Agnes was predeceased by her sisters, Charlotte Tasseff, Mary Chappell, Sophie Walsh and Josephine Paruch, brothers, Frank, John Michael and Joseph 'Buddy' and two brothers in infancy, brothers-in-law, Chris Tasseff, Norman Chappell and James Walsh.
