Cape Breton Deaths October 02, 2008 Thursday Mary Genevieve Carter 89, Sampsonville, Richmond County - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Genevieve, who passed away Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born Jan. 3, 1919, in Sampsonville, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Margaret (Sampson) Sampson. Genevieve was a member of St. Peter's parish, St. Peter's, where she was active for many years in the Catholic Church Altar Society. She was also active in the Sampsonville Community Club and volunteered for many other community groups. Genevieve was one of the first 4-H leaders in Richmond County. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, George Henry; daughters, Sylvia (Ken) Gray, Saint John, N.B., Georda (Richie) Boyd, Maureen (Leonard) Whitty, Gail (George) Landry, all of Sampsonville, Glenda (David) Sampson, River Bourgeois, Cheryl (Donny) Richards, Hammonds Plains; sons, George, Carstairs, Alta., Clifford (Debbie), Byron (Jamie), Darren (Gloria), all of Sampsonville, Clayton (Cathy), Lower Sackville; 26 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lila (Charlie) Carter, Sampsonville, Peggy Savoy, St. Peter's; brother, Theodore (Ellen) Sampson, Sampsonville; numerous nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her. She was predeceased by daughter, Sharon and son-in-law, Billo Burke, son, Carl, grandson, Nelson, great-granddaughter, Tiffany, sisters, Melinda, Beatrice, Grace, Delrosa, Melinda in infancy, brothers, Enos, Patrick, Bernard, Whiley, DY, Martin. Visitation will be held 2-9 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 26 Centennial St., St. Peter's. Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m., Friday in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Everett MacDow officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made to the Nelson Burke Memorial Bursary or a charity of one's choice. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Olive Bailey 1921-2008 - Olive Bailey (nee MacKinnon), 1921-2008, of Sydney Mines, passed away peacefully with family, Oct. 1, 2008, at the Cove Guest Home in Sydney. Olive was born in Sydney Mines and was the daughter of the late John B. and Jenny (MacKeigan) MacKinnon. She was a parishioner of the Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines, where she was an active participant of the ACW and the Altar Guild for many years. She was a past member of the ladies auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion and of the Sydney Mines Pensioners Club. Olive was a gifted craftsperson and her many projects of knitting, crocheting, weaving, ceramics and tole painting will be an enduring legacy of memories. She was a gentle soul, her tender smile and twinkling eyes a reflection of her pure and kind spirit. A beloved Mom, Nana and Grandnana, she will be dearly missed by all who loved her. Olive was predeceased by her husband, David, sister, Mary MacAulay and brothers, Clarence, Robert and Wilfred. She is survived by children, Marie (Kevin Blinkhorn), Amy (George McCarron), Peggy (James Laidlaw), Judy (Les Gerrow), Linda Bailey-Clarke, Lloyd (Maude) and Bobby (Jean), 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Memorial service will take place at Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines, 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, with the Rev. Peter Rafuse presiding, followed by a reception in the church and interment at the Brookside Cemetery.
