    3. Cape Breton Deaths October 04, 2008 Saturday Robert 'Bob' Lewis 67, Whitney Pier - Bob Lewis, 67, of East Broadway, Whitney Pier, passed away Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, at home. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Archibald and Mary (McCarthy) Lewis and brought up by his stepmother, the late Elizabeth (Penny) Lewis. Bob was a retired employee of Cape Breton Regional School Board as a bus driver and a well-known musician. He was best known as a singer and bass player with the Carlton Showband and the local band, Tradewinds. He was a member of Holy Redeemer parish, Whitney Pier. Bobby will be sadly missed by his wife, Erin (O'Rourke) Lewis; son, Aaron (Karen); daughter, April (John) Halliday; four special grandchildren, Jordan, Martina, Makenzie and Bethany; many musical friends, extended family and all "his kids". He was predeceased by his first wife, Helen Pheifer and his twin brother, Billy. Bobby will be sadly missed and always remembered. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel today (Saturday) and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at Holy Redeemer Church, Monday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be sent to the family at sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca ------------------------------------------------------------------------ John 'Jackie' MacAulay 74, Glace Bay - On Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, Jackie MacAulay, 74 years of age, passed away peacefully at the Glace Bay Healthcare Corporation surrounded by his loving family. Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late John and Mary (Allison) MacAulay. Jackie was a member of Holy Cross Parish in Glace Bay. He worked as a coal miner for 24 years up until the death of his wife in 1974. Upon his retirement, Jackie took on the role as a full time caregiver of his three children. He enjoyed playing cards and being surrounded by close friends. After raising his children he continued his loving care for his three grandchildren, who were the joy of his life. Jackie is survived by two daughters, Debbie (Stewart) Thompson and Muriel 'Moo' (Ralph) Hall, Glace Bay and one son, John Glenn (Mary) MacAulay, Glace Bay with whom his resided; three grandchildren, John Stewart Thompson, Kiana and Beth MacAulay, all of Glace Bay. Jackie was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his wife, June (Cathcart) and son, John Douglas; three sisters, Olive, Shirley and Muriel 'Nuddie' and one brother, Gussie. Visitation will be held Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Curry Funeral Home, 755 Main St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held Monday, Oct. 6, 2008 at 10 a.m. in the Curry Funeral Home Chapel with Fr. Conrad Edwards officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. E-mail condolences to jmcurry@ns.sympatico.ca ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Carl Raymond Wadden Jan. 12, 1909-Oct. 2, 2008 - Carl passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Port Morien, Carl lived in Glace Bay most of his life, he was the son of the late George and Elva Wadden. Carl served in the Canadian Army. He was a carpenter foreman for many years. He worked for the Nova Scotia Housing Commission until retirement. Carl was also a member of Thistle Lodge #36 and was master in 1964. He was the last surviving member of his family. Carl is survived by his son, Raymond and daughter-in-law, Greta, with whom he resided; also son, Clyde (Hazel), Ottawa and daughter, Gloria Jenson, Hanover, Ont. Besides his parents, Carl was predeceased by his wife, Milley in 2005 and son, Fred in 2008. Carl was also predeceased by his brothers, Sidney, Allanby, Charles, Floyd and Neil; sisters, Rea, Minnie, Clara and George. Visitation for the late Carl Wadden will take place on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008 at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay, 849-7520 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Masonic service will take place at 6:45 p.m. before the visitation on Sunday. Funeral service will take place on Monday, Oct. 6, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel with Michael Goodfellow officiating. Internment in Forest Haven memorial gardens, Grand Lake Road. Online condolences can be sent to patten@seaside.ns.ca ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Norman Lloyd Hatcher 77, North Sydney - It is with great sadness the family announce the passing of their father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Norman Lloyd Hatcher, age 77, on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008 at the Northside General Hospital. Born in North Sydney, he was the son of the late George and Carolyn (Simm) Hatcher. Norman was employed as a stevedore with Marine Atlantic, until his retirement. He was a member of the North Sydney Senior Citizens and Pensioners Club and a member of the North Sydney Volunteer Fire Department for many years, and he also spent many enjoyable hours at his favorite past time of woodworking. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney. He is survived by his two daughters, Norma (Ralph) Buffett, North Sydney, Karen (Thomas) Robertson, Lawrencetown and one son, Don (Susan Farrell), North Sydney; three grandchildren, Tracey Hatcher, Devon Buffett, Rebecca Robertson; his three brothers, Melvin Hatcher, North Sydney, Gordon Hatcher, Sydney Mines and Vern Hatcher, Halifax and his very special friend, Rose Collier. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Huelin) Hatcher; a brother, Charles Hatcher and a sister, Thelma Bailey. There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. on Sunday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Rev. Carl Fraser officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. Online condolences may be sent to info@wjdooley.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Rosemary Nellie McLean 67, Thunder Bay, Ont. - Rosemary Nellie McLean, age 67 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away in St. Joseph's Hospital, on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008. Rosemary was born and raised in Sydney, Nova Scotia. She moved, with her family, to Thunder Bay in 1981 and had resided here since. She worked as a cook for a number of years at Gerry's Restaurant. She was married to Norman McLean September 19, 1965 in Sydney. He predeceased her in 1997. Rosemary was a member of the ladies auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #5. She loved her computer, especially doing graphics and writing poetry. She also had great affection for her cat, Dusty. Rosemary is survived by her children, Dawn Munshaw (Terry Friske), Michelle Schulzki (Karl), Cindy Gonzales (Tony) and Derek (Monica); grandchildren, Corey, Brandon, Matthew, Kimberley, Michael, Rosa, Jonathon, Daniel, Pedro, Kyle and Nicholas; sisters and brothers, Veronica Ryan, Leona Schennery and Helena West, Johnny Haddad and Joey Haddad. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; grandchildren, Julia, Lindsay, Kathleen and Anthony; sister Marilyn Stover and a very special aunt, Julia Brian, who raised her for most of her growing up years. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 6, 2008 when family and friends will gather for the funeral mass in St. Agnes' Church at 10 a.m. celebrated by Rev. James Panikulam. Services will be complete in the church. Interment will take place privately at St. Andrew's Cemetery at a later date. Visitation with friends and family will take place on Sunday afternoon from 2-4 p.m. in the Blake Funeral Chapel with vigil prayers to be offered on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. If friends desire, memorials to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation or St. Joseph's Hospice would be appreciated. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mary Catherine 'Kaye' MacInnis 69, New Waterford - Kaye MacInnis, 69, passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 3 , 2008 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Inverness, she was a daughter of the late James and Sarah (MacArthur) MacInnis. She moved to New Waterford at an early age where she attended Saint Agnes School. After school, she attended the Cape Breton Business College. Upon completion, she began working at the New Waterford Hospital in medical records, where she remained until her retirement. Kaye was deeply involved in Saint Agnes parish where she was a member of the C.W.L., St. Vincent de Paul and on many committees. One of her great passions was the Progressive Conservative Party where she worked tirelessly for the local party and attended several functions. She enjoyed bowling and going on many long walks. Kaye is survived by sister, Florence (Al) Homeniuk, Brantford, Ont.; brother, Russell (Bev), Simcoe, Ont.; many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. Kaye was predeceased by sister, Dency and brothers, John, Owen, Alex, and James. Kaye will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. Visitation for the late Kaye MacInnis will take place Sunday, Oct. 5 from 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, Oct. 6, at 11 a.m. at the Parish of St. Leonard, Saint Agnes Church, with Fr. Doug MacDonald officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery with a luncheon to follow at Saint Agnes Parish Hall. James Andrew MacDonald, 55, of Truro, passed away suddenly at home, Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008. Born June 24, 1953 in Sydney, N.S., he was the son of the late James MacDonald and Eleanor MacLeod. A graduate of Holland College, Jim began his 35 year policing career in Newcastle, N.B. and Sydney, N.S. and spent the last 28 years with Truro Police. He was also a guest instructor in breathalyzer/data master for Holland College and the RCMP. Jim will be forever missed by his best friend and wife of 34 years, Judy (McNabb); sister, Patsy (Raymond) Foley; brother, Vincent, both of Sydney and many extended family members throughout Nova Scotia. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Noreen. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Mattatall-Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro. No visitation by request. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 669 Prince St., Truro, with Father Dariusz Miskowicz officiating. MacKillop The Points, West Bay - Ronald Malcolm MacKillop, 57, of The Points, West Bay, passed away Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Sydney, N.S., he was the son of the late Dan G. and Christine (Morrison) MacKillop of Grand River. Ronnie worked as a mine surveyor with the Cape Breton Development Corp., from which he retired in 2001. He is survived by his daughter, Tracey MacKillop (Matt), Halifax; stepdaughter, Shelley Gerow (Travis), North Sydney and grandson, Andy Garnier, North Sydney; sister, Shirley (Buddy) MacKay, Grand River. Also survived by two nieces, a nephew and two grand-nephews; several aunts and many cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, the late Christene Anne (MacKay) MacKillop. Ronnie was an adherent of the Black River United Church. He was a very active member of the South Mountain Arm of Gold Association; the Head of the Lakes Seniors Club and the MacKay Cemetery Association. There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held Monday, Oct. 6, 2008 at 2 p.m. in the Black River United Church, conducted by Wayne Yorke, designated lay minister, accompanied by Rev. Murdock MacRae, followed by committal in the MacKay Cemetery in St. George's Channel. Fellowship to follow at the St. George's Channel Hall. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made to An Cala Palliative Care Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital; the MacKay Cemetery Association or to a charity of ones choice.
