Samuel Archibald (Archie) Spencer 93, Sydney - With broken hearts and loving memories, we regret to announce the passing of my beloved husband, Archie, at home on Monday, Nov. 10, 2008. Born in Port Morien on July 15, 1915, to the late Clyde and Katie Jane (MacLeod) Spencer. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving overseas from 1944-46. Archie was employed with Cape Breton Novelty for 34 years, retiring in 1980. Archie is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Gertrude (nee Kiely); daughter, Gloria; sister, Florence MacKenzie, Port Morien; nephews, Robert, Greenwood, Clyde, Angus and Donald (Jackie), all of Port Morien; nieces, Lois Turner, Port Morien, Jean (Donnie) Matheson, Sydney, Ethel (Dave) Fisher, Halifax. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Margaret and his brother, Clarence. Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Thursday, 11 am. at Sydney Memorial Chapel with Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Nelda (Roy) MacKinnon. She was a member of Immaculate Conception parish, Sydney Mines. In her younger years, she loved to bowl, play bingo and a good game of cards. She also loved to go dancing with her husband Bill at the legion on Saturday night. They also loved camping with all their friends at St. Ann's Campground. Jean is survived by her son, William and her daughters, Al-Jean (David) Taylor, Wilda (Donnie) Hyde and Judy (Dennis) Harrietha. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Angela and Les Taylor, Jennifer Quinn, Danielle, Katie and Alex Cantwell, Julie Ann and Cindy Harrietha and her great-grandchildren, Matthew and Avery Williams. Also left to mourn are her sisters, Johnena (Robert) Moore, Woburn, Mass., Margaret O'Neil, Truro, Jimima Campbell and Florence Johnson, both of Sydney Mines; and her brothers, Andrew (Agnes) and Francis (Louise), both of Sydney Mines; sisters-in-law, Queenie, Dorothy and Jake Cantwell and brothers-in-law, Art Morrison and Fred Cantwell. Born in Sydney, she is the daughter of Francis Power and Donna Totten. Haley was a member of the Parish of St. Leonard, St. Michael Church, River Ryan. She enjoyed listening to country music and playing with her stuffed dog, Snuggles. Haley also loved her daily massages and her grandma's stories. She was mommy and daddy's little angel and touched the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Surviving are brothers, Donald and Francis, sister, Amanda, all at home; maternal grandmother, Helen Totten; godparents, Benny Hawley and Raylene Jacobi; several aunts, uncles, and friends. She was predeceased by paternal grandparents, Martin and Margie Power. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Born in Reserve, N.S., she was the daughter of the late John William and Margaret Munroe. Shirley was an adherent of Bethel Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed life to the fullest, enjoying many travels here and abroad to visit family and friends. Shirley enjoyed playing cards with her friends and was always there for her family, friends and neighbours. She watched over us, now may God watch over her. Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Roy and sons, Roy and Russell. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Shirley is survived by her daughters, Marguerite (Tom) Penny, Sydney, Ruth (Gary) Morrison, Marion Bridge, and Mimi (Stefanos 'Nick') Horianopoulas, Ontario; son, Laird, at home; granddaughters, Sheryl, Lesley, Lee-Anne, Kim, Heather, Amy and Traci; great-grandchildren, Ella, Jonathan and Connor and sister-in-law, Sarah and family. Born in Inverness, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Kate (MacIsaac) Young. She was a member of Immaculate Conception parish in Sydney Mines. Coline was a graduate of the Normal Teacher's College and taught in Inverness and Lower Sackville. She chose to take time to raise her three children before returning to the school system as a teacher's assistant and finally retiring two years ago due to ill health. She is survived by her loving husband, Raymond Taylor; sons, David (Lisa), Charlottetown, P.E.I., Peter (Angie), Westville; daughter, Krista (Mike), Sydney Mines; grandchildren, Logan, Stuart and Hailey and her godchild, Suzanne Taylor, Florence. Born in Transcona, Man., on Nov. 1, 1957, he was the son of Richard and Rita (Norman) Leach. He was a member of Immaculate Conception parish, Sydney Mines. Rick graduated from Sydney Mines High School in 1975, from St. FX University, and obtained his masters degree from McMaster University. His greatest joy was in teaching and writing, and in sharing his passion for environmental and political issues. He enjoyed travelling and had a particular love of Asian culture. He is survived by his loving parents, Rita (Norman) and Richard Leach, Sydney Mines; his brother, Stuart (Carol), Charlottetown; his sisters, Nancy (Jacques LaCombe), Montreal, Lynette (Christian) Gagnon, Quebec City, and Carolyn (Rick) Grey, Fredericton.
