Cape Breton Deaths November 08, 2008 Saturday Edward Alexander Binder 1926-2008 Dominion - It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, Edward 'Eddie' Binder, age 82, of Union Street, Dominion. Eddie passed away at his residence on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008. Born in Glace Bay, Eddie was the son of the late John and Christina (MacInnis) Binder. He was a retired coal miner who spent 36 years working for the Cape Breton Development Corporation. He enjoyed bowling and for many years bowled with the Colliery Bowling League. He loved watching hockey and was a die-hard Montreal Canadians fan. Eddie was a Veteran of the Second World War and served overseas in Germany. He was a member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Glace Bay and will be remembered as a quiet man who deeply enjoyed the company of his family. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 41 years, Monica (Nicholson); daughter, Norma (Stephen) MacKay, Dominion; sons, Gary, Hamilton, Ont., Dwight (Tracy), Scotchtown, Darren (Krista), Dartmouth; grandchildren, Cherice, Amanda, Stephen, Jessie, Shannon, Daniel, Brett, Drew and Rhea, great grandchildren, Gavin, Jade and Logan. He will also be dearly missed by his sister, Norma (Simon) McLean, Glace Bay; brothers, Terry (Bea), Glace Bay, Allisdair (Barb), Lower Sackville; sister-in-law, Bonnie Binder and many nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his parents, Eddie was also predeceased by his first wife, Jessie (Hibbs); their daughter, Carol in infancy and his brothers, Ray and Donald 'Skippy'. Visitation for Eddie Binder will be held Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Michael Henderson officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home. Interment will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Eddie can be made to the Lung Association. Born in Sydney, Dec. 19, 1929, he was the son of the late John Herman and Margaret (Cusack) Axworthy. For many years, Frank was employed with Lipton's Auto Parts and retired due to injury from Miller Rentals, where he worked as a heavy duty diesel mechanic. Surviving are his wife, Ella (King); brother, John (Gladys) Axworthy; sons, Frank 'Bingy' (June), Gerald, Gary (Gail Fraser), Lenny, Glen (Michelle Walsh), Duane 'Cheta' (Shelly) and Troy (Susan Booth); daughters, Betty Gerrior, Dorothy (Fred Hawrylak), Beverly (John) Rafferty, Debbie (Cecil) Koehler and Margie Axworthy; 28 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Frank was predeceased by his daughter, Loretta, grandson, Gregory Gerrior, daughters-in-law, Betty Helle and Eleanor Malloney, son-in-law, Greg Gerrior, two sons in infancy, brothers, William Patrick 'Willie' and Patrick Scott and a brother in infancy. Born in Waddens Cove, Marvin was the son of the late Charles and Lilly Clements. Marvin was an engineer for the lake boats and he worked on the Helen and Don Cadegan boats in Glace Bay. He loved to fix lawnmowers and bicycles and loved dogs. Marvin is survived by sister, Arlene (Dennis) MacKeigan; brothers, Lonnie (Sylvia) and Wayne; sister-in-law, Isabelle and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Marvin was predeceased by two brothers, Delbert and Ellsworth Clements, sisters-in-law, Janet and Helen. He will be sadly missed by his good friends Jane Deruelle, Johnny MacKay, Lonzo MacNeil and Jason MacKay, who was like a grandson to him. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late John and Mary Jane (MacPhee) Lively. Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Betty (Pinkney) Lively; daughter, Sharon (Brad Wingfelder); son, Clint and two grandchildren, Justin and Amanda; four sisters, Virginia Sudds, Helen (Art) Pettipas, Phyllis Sudds, Gladys (Joe) MacKenzie and one aunt, Evelyn French; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by two brothers, Jack and Bud and two sisters, Mary and Katie, brothers-in-law, Charles and Tom, two nieces, Heather (Sudds) Sarka and Charlene (Sudds) Geoffredo and two nephews, Gary Sudds and Paul Pettipas. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late George and Lina (Watson) Lynds. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church. Ruth was a registered nurse working at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, until her illness. Surviving are her three daughters, Kelly (Kokocki) (Colin) Matthison, Kitchener, Ont., Nikki Kokocki, Yarmouth, N.S., and Krista Kokocki, Sydney; one brother, Byron Lynds, Sydney; and two grandchildren, Micah and Naomi. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Carmen Kokocki. Visitation for the late Ruth Kokocki will take place Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, at the S.W.
