Cape Breton Deaths November 22, 2008 Saturday MARY E. (KENNEDY) NOLAN WARREN MICHALIK GLACE BAY - We are saddened to announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother and friend. Mary passed away at the home of her daughter, Frances, surrounded by her family on November 19, 2008. Born in Glace Bay she was the daughter of the late Robert Thomas and Agnes Madeira (Woods) Kennedy. Mary was a devoted Roman Catholic. She was a member of St. Anthony's Parish, CWL and the Lay Carmelite Community. She worked at St. Rita's Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital for nineteen years in the Food Service Department. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Stanley and is survived by five step-children, Walter, Stanley, Angela, Martha and Mary. She is also survived by daughters, Theresa Southwell (Michael), MacAskills Brook, Hazel MacIntyre (the late Danny), Sydney, Lorraine MacIntyre (Angus), Toronto, Frances MacNeil (the late Michael), Glace Bay; sons, Hector (Edna), Birch Grove, Robert, Toronto, Roy (Diane), Sudbury, Thomas (Louise), Birch Grove and William (Donna), Pickerington; 38 grandchildren; 59 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Charlene, a son in infancy, grandson, Jamie, brothers, Roy and Francis. Visitation for Mary will be held Sunday, November 23rd from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. Vigil prayers will be at 7:15 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St Anthony's Parish, Monday, Nov. 24th at 10 a.m. with Fr. Conrad Edwards officiating. Interment will be at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. Well done, good and faithful servant. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Catherine Lynn (King) Roach 49, Sydney - It is with heavy hearts and loving memories we announce the passing of Catherine Lynn Roach, on Thursday Nov. 20, 2008 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney with her family by her side. She will be deeply missed by her children, Derek (Isa) Roach, Glace Bay, Karen (Dave) Gillis, Sydney; her forever friend, Bill Roach, Sydney; her grandchildren, Derek Scott Roach, Cori Lynn, Mallory Brooke, and Kevin John Gillis. She is also survived by her brother, Todd (Arlene) King, Catalone; mother and father-in-law, William and Shirley Roach (Sydney); sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, Betty (White) and Gerald King, she was predeceased by her grandparents. Cathy was a wonderful woman with a very kind, loving heart, she would do anything for anyone and everyone. She worked at the Journey's End (Comfort Inn) for ten years, first as housekeeper and then on the front desk and loved every minute she worked there. She touched the hearts of everyone she knew, she will never be forgotten and she will forever live on within all of us. Visitation will be held Sunday November 23,2008 at the S.W. To some she was known as Kay, to her loving family she was always known as Theresa. Theresa was born in Sydney, NS on October 16, 1928. She was the daughter of the late Leonard and Elizabeth Pike. Theresa spent her first 75 years in Sydney before moving to Antigonish in 2004. Theresa is survived by her loving husband Stephen of 55 years, as well as, sons Kenneth (Betty), Truro, Roderick (Helen), Fall River, Leonard, Inuvik, NWT; daughters Carolyn (Paul MacDonald), Inverness/Antigonish, Margaret (Bill Libbus), Lower Sackville; grandchildren Scott, Sean, Heather, Christopher, Kenzie, Stephen, Cameron, Murray and Erin and her brothers Frank (Carm) and Walter. Theresa was predeceased by her infant daughter Elizabeth. Lead stoker on the merchants ships at the age of 15, Tom joined her Majesty's Royal Canadian Navy at the beginning of WWII and climbed the ranks to Petty Officer. Tom put his hand at and succeeded at many jobs in civilian life. His last job was as a mechanic for the Department of Motor Vehicles before his retirement to Pender Island, BC, to pursue his passion for fishing. Following a stroke in the 60's, Tom moved to Abbottsford, having to learn to walk and talk all over. Tom enjoyed many trips back home to Cape Breton reconnecting with old friends and family. During his extended life, Tom made friends from everywhere no matter where he went. Always entertaining with a story, a tale or a joke. Sadly missed by sister, Helen Assoun, Agnes Burke and brother Joe O'Dea. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Louis MacIntosh - It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Louis Mac Intosh, TTC Retiree, Second World War and D-Day Canadian Army veteran and longstanding member fo the Royal Canadian Legion, Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, in his 87th year. Beloved husband of the late Sarah (Toots), father of John (Margaret), Reg (Linda), Don (Patty), Adrian (Bernadette), and predeceased by daughter, Diane. Dear brother to Margaret and the late Loretta, Stanley, William and Ann.
