    3. THE SYDNEY RECORD WEDNESDAY EVENING OCOTBER 13, 1915 STILL NO VERDICT IN NO. SYDNEY TRAGEDY North Sydney, Oct. 13-The jury sitting to determine the cause of the death of the late Mrs. J.P. McNaughton, resumed its session yesterday evening. The first witness was Mr. John A. McDonald, barrister. Mr. McDonald testified that on Saturday morning about eleven thirty, he went to the Peppett home to have four documents signed, which Mrs. McNaughton witnessed. There was nothing at all unusual about her appearance, her signature was written in a good, firm hand, without a trace of nervousness whatever. Immediately after signing, Mrs. McNaughton left the room to attend to one of her children. Mr. McDonald was in the house about ten minutes altogether. The next witness called was Miss Lizzie McKinnon, who went to Mrs Peppet's to assist in the housework on Saturday morning. She saw Mrs. McNaughton about 9 o'clock, who was then as cheerful as she had ever seen her. Witness was in the kitchen when Mrs. Totten called from upstairs when the shooting took place. Mrs. Peppett and Mrs. Hood, witness continued, were also in the kitchen at the time. These two were the only witnesses examined last night. The jury were not able to render a verdict, owing to the unavoidable absence of two witnesses who had been summoned to appear, and adjourned to meet again this evening. The jurors are, Foreman Alex McDonald, Thos. Grant, Peter McLean, M. D. Davidson, Angus McPherson, Bart Musgrave, B.R. Rice, John McGibbon, W.H. Henderson, Louis Thompson, Max Bethune and Stanley Hackett. Mr. Hugh Ross, K.C. of Sydney, represented Mr. McNaughton. He had nothing to say beyond the fact that he thought the inquest unnecessarily delayed submitted by es718 <es718@freenet.carleton.ca>
