    3. THE SYDNEY RECORD TUESDAY EVENING OCTOBER 12, 1915 THE TRAGIC DEATH OF AN ESTIMABLE LADY (Special to the Record) North Sydney, Oct. 12-One of the sadest occurences here for a very long time took place on Saturday resulting in the death of Mrs. J.P. McNaughton of Sydney. Mrs. McNaughton, who was the wife of Mr. J.P. McNaughton, general sales agent of the Dominion Iron & Steel Co., was visiting her mother here, Mrs. J.W. Peppett, and shortly afternoon on Saturday died as a result of a bullet from a revolver entering near the heart, death ensuing almost instantly. Coronor A.R. Forbes empanelled a jury, which, after taking the evidence of a couple of people employed at the place, adjourned until this evening. It is stated that Mrs. McNaughton had not been in good health for sometime, suffering from nervous trouble, though nothing unusal was noticed about her on Saturday morning. Mrs. Totteh, a seamstress employed in the house, testified before the jury that she was at work on the second floor, and that very shortly after Mrs. McNaughton left her to procure a towel from the bath room she heard a shot from that direction, and immediately called Mrs. Peppett and a domestic from down stairs. They went to the bath room where they found Mrs. McNaughton lying on the floor. Medical assistance was procured at once, and it was found on examination that a bullet had entered near the heart, resulting in her death almost immediately as above stated. Mr. McNaughton was in Montreal at the time and reached here yesterday morning by special train from Truro. University regret is expressed here over Mrs. McNaughton's death. As Miss Etta Peppett she spent her life here previous to her marriage, and her passing away in the prime of life will be sincerely regretted by a large circle of friends. Besides her husband and two little sons she is survived by her mother Mrs.J.W. Peppett, one sister, Mrs. S.P. Bolling, and one brother, Mr. Claude W. Peppett of the 40th Battalion at Valcartier, who is expected home tonight. The funeral takes place at 2.30 tomorrow (Wedneday) afternoon. submitted by es718 <es718@freenet.carleton.ca>
