Cape Breton Deaths November 25, 2008 Tuesday Lloyd Steiger 62, Scotchtown - With heavy hearts and loving memories, we regret to announce the peaceful passing of Lloyd Steiger at the Glace Bay Hospital surrounded by his loving family on Nov. 23, 2008. Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late Damien and Josephine (Petrie) Steiger. Lloyd was a member of the Parish of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Church. He was employed with Sydney Steel Plant for 29 years until his retirement. Lloyd was well known for his vocals and playing guitar. One of his fondest memories was this past summer playing various gigs with his son throughout Ontario. He also enjoyed a game of tarabish and was an avid bowler. Lloyd lived life to the fullest and enjoyed spending time with family and friends; the world was a better place for having him. His music will live on in our hearts forever. Lloyd was a loving husband for 41 years to his soulmate and wife, Darlene (Richardson); a great father and friend to his three children, son, Lloyd Jr. (Lee), Oshawa, Ont.; daughters, Janet, Halifax, and Diane, Scotchtown; dear grandfather to Lauralee, Morgan and Tracy. He is also survived by brother, Kevin (Brenda); sisters, Barbara (Birt) Grace, Anna (Dave) Stephenson, all of New Waterford; many sisters and brothers-in-law as well as nieces and nephews. Lloyd was predeceased by brothers John, George and Damien. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Thursday, Nov. 27 at 11 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Church with Fr. Paul MacNeil officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Carmel Centre. She was a resident of Williston House, Sydney. Her death occurred after a short illness at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008. She is now reunited with her darling, Ted, who predeceased her on Oct. 1, 2002. She was born in Victoria, B.C., the treasured daughter of the late Robert J. and Mary (Williams) Crozier-Smith. (Don) Francis 80, North Sydney - It is with heartfelt sadness the family announce the sudden passing of Ronald 'Don' Francis, age 80, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at his home. Born in Halifax, Don was the son of the late Aquilla and Carolyn (MacDonald) Francis. He was self-employed operating his own trucking company for many years. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney. Don was a 25 year member of the Fulton Orange Lodge, No. 1754. He enjoyed playing darts at the lodge and the North Sydney fire hall. Don was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his wife, Janie (MacDonald) Francis; four sons, Ronnie (Anna) Francis, Scotch Lake, Dave, Donald and Christopher Francis, at home; two daughters, D'Anne Francis (Charlie) and Tanya (Joe) Martinovic, both of North Sydney; five grandchildren, Amy, Jennifer, Robert, Elizabeth and Charles; one great-granddaughter, Madison Brooke; his mother-in-law, Ellen MacDonald, Newfoundland; numerous nieces and nephews.
