Cape Breton Deaths July 18, 2008 Friday Mary Catherine Morin (MacDonald) Age 58 - Mary Catherine Morin (MacDonald), 58, of Troy, Inverness County, died Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at home. Born in Antigonish, she was a daughter of the late Roddie Eddie and Irene (King) MacDonald. Mary Catherine was a member of Stella Maris parish, Creignish, and a former member of St. Joseph's parish, Port Hawkesbury. She was also an associate member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 43, Port Hawkesbury. Mary Catherine was employed by the Strait Regional School Board. She is survived by her husband, Ken; sons, David (Natasha), Haines Junction, Yukon, Robert, Antigonish, Mac, at home; sisters, Debbie (Rod) Campbell, Viola Daley, both of Fort McMurray, Alta.; brothers, Roddie (Delores), Steve, both of Port Hawkesbury; grandchildren, Emma, Joy, Eric, Tess. She was predeceased by brother, Robert, nephews, John Robert MacDonald and Adam Campbell. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., today (Friday, July 18) and 11 a.m.-1:45 p.m. Saturday, July 19 in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be held 2 p.m., Saturday in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Hugh D. MacDonald officiating. Burial in Stella Maris Parish Cemetery, Creignish. He fought the enemy courageously in the Second World War as a North Nova Scotia Highlander in order to preserve our freedom. James passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Veteran's Residence in Toronto, July 15, surrounded by his loving family. He leaves his beloved wife of 66 years, Darling (Stella) and will be sadly missed by children, Jeannette, Michael and Garry and daughters-in-law, Donna and Patricia. Devoted grandpa to Christopher, Gentry, Jamen, Joshua and Adam. Born Aug. 9, 1920, in Smelt Brook, Cape Breton, he was one of 12 proud sons and four daughters of William H. Briand and Martha Ann Dixon. Born in Sydney Mines, Shirley was the daughter of the late Joseph and Nora (O'Toole) Richards. She was a member of St. Pius X parish, Sydney Mines. She is survived by her loving husband, Harry M. Clarke (Jr.); her cherished children, Cathy MacNeil and Frank Sentence, Ontario, Lonnie and Nancy (Campbell) MacNeil, N.S., and Michael MacNeil, N.S.; stepdaughters, Michelle Adams (Clarke), Ontario, Lisa Clarke, Ontario, and Sonya Clarke, N.S.; as well as six grandchildren. She will be fondly remembered by her sisters, Edith Foster, Theresa Bailey, Joan (Lawrence) Hurley, Mickey (John) Bushnick and Verna (Cameron) MacNeil. Besides her parents, Shirley was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Richards and her first-born son, John D. (Jack) MacNeil. In accordance with Shirley's wishes, there will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be held at St. Pius X Church, Main Street, Sydney Mines, Saturday, July 19, 2008, at 10 a.m. with Fr. Hughie MacNeil officiating. A reception will follow in the parish hall. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Leo and Christina (MacKay) Farrell. Wayne was a former member of St. Anne's parish, Glace Bay. He worked for Delta Airlines for many years. After his retirement, Wayne enjoyed travelling and visiting with family and friends. Wayne is survived by his wife of 47 years, Doris (Dowe); three sons, Robert, Leo and Norris, all of the U.S.A.; seven grandchildren and three sisters, Bernadette, Catherine and Judy. Besides his parents, Wayne was predeceased by three brothers, Tommy, Jimmy and Leo. Visitation will be held today (Friday, July 18) from 2-4 p.m. at Curry's Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay.
