NAUFFTS, Venerena - After a brief illness, on Monday, June 30, 2008 at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto. Venerena (Micossi) beloved wife of the late Stephen Albert Nauffts. Cherished mother of Bernadette (Lyle), Denise, Coleen (Alex) and Elaine (Eddie), both deceased. Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Predeceased by three grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Rd. West, Oakville, (one block east of Kerr, 905-844-2600) on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2008 at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, 181 Sewell Drive, Oakville. Interment Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late Joseph and Enrica (Micossi) Nemis. He was a retired coal miner, having worked for 40 years. He was a member of Mount Carmel Church and New Waterford Pensioners Club. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and boxing. He is survived by his wife, the former Catherine MacDonald; five sons, James, Malcolm, Colin (Nick), Denis, Cyril, all of New Waterford; two daughters, Shirley (Mrs. Archie MacIntyre), Lynn (Mrs. Jimmy Newman), both of New Waterford; two brothers, Dominic, Joseph, both of New Waterford; two sisters, Edith, New Waterford; Mrs. Rena Rizzetto, Brantford, Ont.; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, Johnny, Louis; sister, Anna; granddaughter, Christina. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Funeral will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Mount Carmel Church. Burial will be in parish cemetery. Donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society. MacKENZIE, Elaine - 52, 675 Willow St., New Waterford, died July 7, 1994, at home. Born in Donkin, she was a daughter of Venerena (Micossi) Nauffts, Toronto, Ont. and the late Albert Nauffts. She was a member of Mount Carmel Parish. She was a graduate of St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing, Glace Bay and at one time, was employed at St. Joseph's Hospital and New Waterford Consolidated Hospital. She is survived by two sons, Robert, New Waterford; Stephen, Windsor, Ont.; daughter, Shauna Marie, New Waterford; three sisters, Coleen (Mrs. Alex Dachuk), Bernadette (Mrs. Lyle Lodge), Denise Jansen, all of Oakville, Ont.; three grandchildren. She was predeceased be her husband, Edward Gerald; two sons, Paul Douglas, Michael Anthony. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Saturday in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Funeral will be 4:30 p.m. Sunday in Mount Carmel Church. Burial will be in parish cemetery. Born in Udine, Italy, she was a daughter of the late Protassio and Theresa (Tubetti) Micossi. She was a member of St. Michael's Church and the Pensioners Club. Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late Charles and Sadie (O'Donnell) Sampson. He served overseas in Italy and in the European theatre with the Cape Breton Highlanders and was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 3; Glace Bay Pensioners Club and Sergeants Mess Association. He was an avid cribbage and dart player.
