Cape Breton Deaths July Tuesday Carlyle Allan John Denny 19, Eskasoni - It is with broken hearts and great sadness that we, the family announce the death of a wonderful, loving son, uncle, brother and great friend who passed away suddenly Saturday, July 12, 2008. Born in Baddeck, he was the son of Mona Bernard and the late Ira John Denny. Carl was a very loving, friendly, easy-going guy who loved spending time with his family. He loved being outdoors playing amongst his nieces and nephews who love him and will miss him dearly. He especially loved his only godchild, Chasity Jade. Carlyle is survived by his loving mother, Mona (Alonzo); one brother, Jordan; four sisters, Jillian (John), Tyra, Renee and Cassidy. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Ira John, Haley Jade, Chasity Jade and Colby James; as well as his maternal grandparents, Julena Bernard and Roddie Knockwood; numerous great-aunts, great-uncles, aunts, uncles and cousins. Carl was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Noel and Bridget (Marshall) Denny, and his father, Ira John Denny Jr. Visitation for the late Carlyle Denny will take place Tuesday July 15 after 7 p.m. at the Gabriel Centre, Eskasoni. Funeral mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 17 at Holy Family Church, with Fr. Martin MacDougall officiating. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery. She was the daughter of the late John and Mary (MacDonald) Gushue. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Left to mourn are her children, daughter, Virginia (Peter) Oickle and their children, Andrew (Amanda), Jonathan (Krista) and Christianna, and great-grandson, Adwyn; son, Donald (Sandra Clarke) and their children, Forrest and Storm; daughter, Lori (James) Kennedy, and their children, Rena (Shawn) Lahey, M.J. (Liane) Burke, Leslie, Kaitlynn, Jim (Wendy) Kennedy, Jr., Tara (Chad) Kennedy; great-grandchildren, Noah and John Lahey, Ryan, Cally and Megan Burke; step-great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Corrine, Kayla, Kelcey, Zackery and Brooke; daughter, Deborah (Michael) Mahon and their children, Patrick and Adrianne; daughter, Patricia (Kevin) Gardiner; son, Bernard Burke; daughter, Jackie (Tim) Klein and their children, Brooke and Bronwyn; grandson, Thomas Adam Burke (Sheila Marie); granddaughter, Lee Anne Penny (Chris) and her son, Thomas David Penny Gallop. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Susie Gushue and sister-in-law, Clara (Les) Wilson and several nieces and nephews. Virginia was predeceased by her husband, Patrick and their children, Les, John and Tommy and their infant children, Mary and Terry. Visitation will be held at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, Tuesday, July 15 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will take place Wednesday, July 16 at 11 a.m. at Stella Maris Church with Rev. Everett MacDow officiating. Online condolences may be sent to our webpage at www.chantfuneralhome.com. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Raymond William Jessome (Razor Fluff) 47, Mississauga/Formerly Glace Bay - It is with great sadness that we, the family announce the sudden passing of Raymond Jessome July 10, 2008, at his residence in Mississauga, Ont. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of Theresa (nee Cook) Jessome and the late Frederick Wilson (Freddy) Jessome. Raymond had an active childhood in Glace Bay and played on many sports teams; his favourites being baseball and hockey. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish and a student at St. Michael High. He moved to Ontario in the late 1970s but never forgot his roots. Raymond's laid back approach to life was a tribute to his Cape Breton culture. He often talked about moving home when he retired. Raymond was employed with Ampere Metal where he was known as one of the best line operator platers in the business. He lived a happy, active life with baseball, swimming, biking and bowling as his pastimes. He also enjoyed a good party. Raymond was an incredibly accepting person who was a friend to all and a true friend to many. Raymond was predeceased by his father, Freddy in 1977 as well as paternal grandparents, Wilson and Lila Jessome, maternal grandparents, Bill and Mary Cook, and aunts and uncles. He is survived by his mother, Theresa Jessome; his brother, Leo Jessome, sister-in-law, Sylvia 'Sis', all of Glace Bay; his 'bro' John Walker (Chrissy), Brampton, Ont.; niece, Trish O'Brien (George), Sackville, N.S.; nephews, Dan Jessome (Joan Marie), Irma, Alta. and Leo Jessome (fiancée Pam Geddes), Enfield, N.S.; greatnieces, Faith and Alyssa; greatnephews, Tyler, Christopher and Jordan; as well as aunts, uncles and cousins from Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Ontario. Raymond also had a family of friends in Ontario who were all very special to him. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service to honour Raymond will take place at Andrews Community Funeral Centre, Brampton, on July 15 at 2 p.m. Funeral will be Thursday, July 17 at 2 p.m. at St. John's Church, New Aberdeen, Glace Bay, with a committal service at St. John's Cemetery followed by a reception at St. John's Auditorium. We miss you, we love you and we will "see ya later, Bye." ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Elizabeth Ann Crowe 67, North Sydney - It is with great sorrow the family announce the peaceful passing of Elizabeth Ann Crowe, age 67, a resident of George's River, Friday, July 11, 2008 at the Northside General Hospital. Elizabeth was born in North Sydney on May 24, 1941, the youngest daughter of Frederick and Caroline (Plank) Clark. Elizabeth worked as a teller at the Royal Bank in North Sydney, prior to becoming a stay-at-home mom. She volunteered at the Northside Christian Academy for many years. She was member of the Northside Baptist Church, Halfway Road, in Sydney Mines. She is survived by her husband, Alfred Crowe; her two sons, Murray (Rebecca) and Barry (Linda); eight grandchildren, Amber, Brendon, Emily, Tyler, Breanne, Cody, Carla and Brookelyn; her sister, Margaret (Earl) Marple, North Sydney; and a brother, Vince (Ruth) Clark, Ottawa; as well as nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by an infant baby, Elizabeth, sisters, Laura and Jean, brothers, William, Howard and Paul. A devoted wife and mother, she is greatly loved and will be greatly missed. Visitation for Elizabeth will be held today (Tuesday, July 15) 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Northside Baptist Church, Halfway Road, Sydney Mines. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 16 at 2 p.m. at the Northside Baptist Church with Pastor Jason Homan officiating, with burial to follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. Born in North Sydney, he was the son of the late John and Cecilia (McMullen) Gorman. Fitz was employed as a stevedore with Marine Atlantic for over 30 years and also drove tractor-trailers for local companies. Throughout his life Fitz loved playing hockey and baseball. Fitz touched the lives and hearts of everyone who knew him, especially family and friends in North Sydney. Fitz is survived by his wife, Sharon (Gale); his only son, Jerry (Bonnie); his two daughters, Wendy (Jody) Porter, Trisha (Joe Chaisson); his six grandchildren whom he adored, Haley, Kalle, Ryan, Baby Joe, Dylan and Luke; his only sister, Sharon Marshall; his only brother, Daryl; his five nieces, Holly, Jenny, Emily, Diane and Kim; two nephews, Riley and John; his mother-in-law, Edna Gale and brother-in-law, Carter Gale. He was predeceased by a brother and sister in infancy and his sister-in-law, Collette Prince and father-in-law, John Gale. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Charles Coish and the nurses and staff of 2 West at the Northside General Hospital for their care and kindness shown to Fitz. Born in Inverness on May 17, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Clohtalea Poirier. Carmel was a member of Holy Cross parish, Glace Bay. She was a lover of music and enjoyed dancing. Carmel is survived by one daughter, Patricia 'Doll' Cole, Ontario; three grandchildren, Carmel, Michael and Billy and one great-grandchild, William Ryan; two sisters, Loretta McIntrye, Glace Bay and Mary Georgina Bennett, Quebec. Carmel is also survived by live in companion, Melvin McInnis; along with many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, William in 2006 and 12 brothers and sisters. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 16, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with funeral service at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 17 all in Curry's Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, with Fr. Frost passed away on July 12, 2008, in Meaford, Ont. Husband of Sue Nash and father of Jesse and Marilyn; stepfather of Leone and Cindy; grandfather of Victoria. He leaves many nieces and nephews in Nova Scotia as well as Ontario. Roy was predeceased by his parents, Cecilia Johnson and Arthur Frost as well as his siblings, Dixie, Alma and Fabian. Survived by his brothers, Art and Charlie, both of Ontario. As a young man, Roy received many awards for his baseball skills. He was born in Glace Bay, moved to Reserve Mines in 1940 where he attended St. Joseph School. He left for Toronto where he joined Dixie, Art and Charlie who were established in that province. There will be a celebration of Roy's life at the Meaford legion, date and time to be announced. - Charles Frost ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Kenneth Victor Goyan 58, Abbotsford, B.C. - Kenneth Victor Goyan, 58, Abbotsford, B.C., formerly of Glace Bay, passed away July 1, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Toronto, he was the son of the Victor and Elsie Goyan. Ken is survived by his daughter, Helen Goyan, Lower Sackville; his mother; brother, David, Glace Bay; and sister, Lillian, Mississauga. He was predeceased by his sister, Carolyn, and brothers, Jerry and Eddie.
