Cape Breton Deaths July 16, 2008 Wednesday Wanda 'Cookie' Pottle 73, Sydney - It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Wanda Ann 'Cookie' Pottle of Kings Road, Sydney, on Monday, July 14, 2008, at home. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Wanda (Filek) Doolan. In 1982, Cookie retired from Zellers where she was employed as an office manager. Surviving are her husband, James; son, Tom (Lee Cantwell), Sydney; daughter, Wanda (Harry Glube), Halifax; grandchildren, Sarah Pottle (Daniel Huffaker), Halifax, and Emilie Pottle, London, England; brothers, Tom (Judy) Doolan, Sydney, and Ray Ivany (Laurie Graham), Dartmouth and many nieces and nephews. Cookie was predeceased by her brothers, Edward Doolan and Dwight Doolan. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at Church Of Christ the King, Friday, July 18, 11 a.m. with Rev. Fred Rhymes officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made to a charity of ones choice. God took home a beautiful and precious woman we had the privilege of calling wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, on Monday, July 14, 2008, at the Northside General Hospital. She joins her dear son Gregory to embrace him on his upcoming birthday. Born in Halifax, Katherine was the daughter of the late William and Hughena (Richards) Barrett. Katherine worked for many years at the former Rahey's Supermarket on Blowers Street in North Sydney. She was a member of the Bras d'Or Senior Citizens and a former member of St. Joseph Church in Bras d'Or, and in recent years she was a member of St. Joseph Church in North Sydney. Katherine is survived by her loving husband, Roderick; her five children, Roddie, Elaine, Allen, Michael and Stephen (Tara Lee); her nine grandchildren, Dannielle, Tanya, Heather, Jessica, Jordan, Miranda, Bryce, Samantha and Josh and two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Dan Joe. Also surviving are her brothers, Bill (Linda Gaudet) Barrett, Kenneth (Nellie) Barrett; sisters, Shirley (Clarence) MacPhail and Dianna Marie (Vincent) MacDonald; and also the extended members of the MacInnis family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by one son, Gregory and a daughter-in-law, Jane MacInnis. Katherine was gifted in being able to meet you, know you and cherish you. She will be greatly missed and forever loved. There will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass will held 10 a.m. Thursday, July 17 at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev. Born in Potlotek, Cape Breton, he was the son of the late John and Mary Isabel (Googoo) Joe. He was a member of Holy Family parish, Eskasoni. He was a carpenter by trade, having built many homes in Eskasoni. Levi loved to play music on many instruments and was a writer and singer of songs. He served as a councillor for a number of years. He is survived by his wife, the former Helena Dennis; children, Theresa (Steve), Vincent (Louise), Patricia (James), Catherine (Steve), Rose, Veronica (Frank), Pauline, Paul (Charlene), Troy, Glen, all of Eskasoni, Eleanor (Charlie), Membertou; 29 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Tena (Walter) Young, Mary Catherine Francis; two brothers, Benedict (Bridget) Joe, Edward (Barbara) Joe and by Karl Lafford, John David Lafford, Kenneth Lafford and Kevin Lafford. He was predeceased by a son, Noel Joe and two daughters in infancy, Mary Isabel and Mary Tena, brothers, Wilfred, Fabian, Noel, Joseph, John and by a sister, Mary Theresa Joe. Visitation for the late Mr. Joe will take place after 7 p.m., Thursday at the family residence, 97 74th St., Eskasoni. Online condolences may be sent to twcurryparkviewchapel@ns.sympatico.ca. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Paul Joseph Fitzpatrick July 11, 1943-July 10, 2008 Paul Joseph Fitzpatrick, better known as 'Papa' to his Angel Dolls (Kallan and Macy), passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital, Thursday, July 10, 2008, at the age of 64 years. Papa had a deep love for the ocean but even a deeper love for his grandchildren. Paul had a great sense of humour and loved to tell a good story. His stories and memories will continue on by his family that cherish him so much. Paul will sadly be missed by his wife of 45 years, Jessie (nee Crawford); two daughters, Wendy (Barry) Packard, Red Deer, and Cindy (Joute) Meinema, Lacombe; and three grandchildren, Ralph, Macy and Kallan. He will be sadly missed by his one brother, Mike (Thelma) Fitzpatrick; four sisters, Theresa (Raymond) Burke, Mary-Margaret McDougall, Pauline Pinkerton and Helen Butts. Paul was predeceased by his parents, John and Margaret, one sister, Annie-May Lloyd and one brother, John Fitzpatrick. She is survived by her son, Donnie (Shirley); daughter, Carol (Gordie) Sullivan; daughter-in-law, Marjorie; grandsons, Danny, Scott, John R., Michael and Sandy; granddaughters, Kelly, Leona, Cheryl, Brenda and Frances. She is also survived by brother, Leo Bonaparte, MacKinnon's Harbour; and a sister, Kathleen MacLean, Ottawa Brook. She was predeceased by the love of her life, husband John Dan MacInnis, sons, Billy and Alex, daughter-in-law, Edie, a daughter in infancy, grandson, Thomas Patrick Sullivan in infancy, sisters, Bertha MacLeod, Anna (MacSween) Bailey, Nora Gagne, Annie MacNeil, Cecilia MacNeil and brothers, Charles, Felix, Abe and Raymond in infancy. Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Lloyd L. and Madge (Gillis) Johnston. He was a pipefitter by trade and very proud to be a member of Local 682 Plumbers and Pipe Fitters. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion 150. He was an avid outdoorsman and musician. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving in Holland and reclaiming Germany. He was also a friend of Bill W. for almost 50 years. He is survived by daughters, Paula MacPherson, Patsy (Teddy) Poirier, Bobbi (Allan) Boudreau, Anne Marie (Robert) Heudes; sons, Reg Johnston, Bud (Susan) Johnston, Earl (Vivian) Johnston, Michael Johnston; sister, Caroline Towne, Kapuskasing, Ont.; grandchildren, Rick, Lisa, Shane, Reggie, Michelle, Steven, Matt, Carli, Kelsie, Teresa, Alex, Vanessa and John; great-grandchildren, Abbie, Isaac, RJ, Olivia, Connor and Ella. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 46 years, Ellen 'Teas' (Roach). He was the adopted son of Carol (Keenan) and Percy Reid of Edmonton, Alta., and formerly of Sydney Mines. Besides his parents, he is survived by several Rudderham sisters and brothers from or formerly from the Point Edward area. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Lillian and James Keenan and Joseph and Dorothy Reid and uncle, Richard Keenan. Burial took place on July 11, 2008, at the St. Laurent Cemetery in Montreal. Born in Point Edward, she was the daughter of late Percy and Lillian (Beaton) Hill. Irene was a longtime resident of Front Lake Road and she was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Sydney. She was an avid dart player. She was a past member of Sergeant's Mess Wednesday night dart league and Brooks Haven dart league. Irene also enjoyed her card night on Thursday nights with the girls. A very loving mother and beautiful lady. She will be so missed by her son, Stewart (Rachel) and daughter, Lillian (Phillip); two grandchildren, Rob and Albert; four great-grandchildren, Amanda, Kevin, Shaun and Connor. She is also survived by two brothers, Ashburn, Louisbourg, Doug, Point Edward; as well as her two loving friends, Sarah Pyke and Cecilia Clarke. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Albert, granddaughter, Beverly, four sisters, Pauline Hill, Mildred Pentecost, Catherine Brown and Pearl Rudderham, six brothers, Melvin, Stewart, Francis, Hansen, Percy and Ernie. Born in Sydney on Jan. 30, 1980, he was the son of Peter and Lorna (Harrietta) Capstick. He had been employed in the labourers union for the past five years, first in Halifax, then with Local 92 in Edmonton. For the past year he was employed in Mission, B.C., as a carpenter with Cotters Construction. Peter was a fun-loving person with a love for music and touched the hearts of many in his short life. Besides his parents, he is survived by his sisters, Elisha and Stephanie; grandparents, Alex and Dorathea Harrietta; nephews, Mitchel and Quintin and nieces, Paiton and Madison. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins; special friends, Derrick Campbell and Brian O'Tool Jr., and in Mission, his very special friend, Dawn Thomas and family. He was predeceased by his brother, John Gregory in infancy and his grandparents, Everret and Margaret (Jobe) Capstick.
