"The Sydney Post-Record," Wednesday, 25 Jan 1933, pg 3, NSARM 1405, Mrs. Catherine Gwozd (sic) The death occurred on Saturday at the Cape Breton Hospital of Mrs. Catherine Gwozd a well known and highly esteemed resident of the Polish Community of this city. [Whitney Pier] The late Mrs. Gwozd had reached the advanced age of Eighty eight years and was one of the oldest residents of this district. The funeral was held on Monday moving from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Roman Siwak, Ferris Street to St. Mary's Polish Church, where Rev. Fr. O'Connell celebrated Mass of Requiem. A large number of sorrowing relatives and friends attended the funeral of the deceased, who was a prominent figure in the circle in which she moved. At the conclusion of the church service the lengthy funeral procession proceeded to Calvary Cemetery where interment tool place. Rev. Father O'Connell officiated at the graveside. The pall bearers, all life long and intimate friends of the late Mrs. Gwozd were: J. Miecznek, M. Paruch, P. Stojek [(sic?) may be Wojcik], T. Melski, P. Grochalski, F. Wrovhewski. [(sic?) may be Wroblewski). Surviving to mourn their loss are one daughter Mrs. Siwak of the city and Mr. Stanley Gwodz.
