Cape Breton Deaths July 10, 2008 Thursday Ralph Laurie Richardson 74, North Sydney - It is with heartfelt sadness the family announce the peaceful passing of their father, grandfather and brother, Ralph Richardson, age 74, a resident of Catherine Street, on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at the Northside General Hospital. Born in Rose Blanche, Nfld., Ralph was the son of the late Matthew and Hilda (Styles) Richardson. He was employed with National Sea Products until his retirement. He is survived by his loving children, Barbara Richardson (Eugene Cunningham), Matt (Lois) Richardson, Darlene Richardson (Peter Carver), Corinne (Howard) Moore, Deanna (Charlie) Plowman, Darren Richardson; his nine beautiful grandchildren; his two sisters, Violet (Fred) Vouden and Mary (John) Snow; by sister-in-law Beatrice Richardson; brother-in-law, Percy Leyte and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased just three weeks ago by his loving companion, Frances MacTaggart and also predeceased by a brother, Charles Richardson and a sister, Shirley Leyte. A special thank you to the MacTaggart family for their loving support shown to our father for many years, and especially Mary Elizabeth MacTaggart for all her hard work, love and support she gave to our father during his illness. Visitation for Ralph will be held today (Thursday, July 10) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A graveside committal will be held 11 a.m., Friday at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney, with Charlie MacGuigan officiating. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. Online condolences may be sent to info@wjdooley.com. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Leo John (Bud) Evans Nov. 2, 1934-June 30, 2008 Toronto, Ont./North Sydney, N.S. - It is with great sorrow that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of Leo John (Bud) Evans at St. Joseph's Hospital, Toronto, Ont., at the age of 73. Born in North Sydney, N.S., he was the son of the late Leo Evans and Elizabeth (Adair) Evans. Bud was well known in the area as a fish merchant and later, owner-operator of Coxheath Dairy. He then moved to Ontario where he was employed by Shell Canada and Milton Auto Aucton. He is survived by his beloved Marjorie Bland, Toronto, Ont.; son, Kevin; daughter, Judy and grandson, Cole of Brampton, Ont. Bud will be deeply missed by his siblings, Elizabeth Starratt (late Ken), Truro, N.S., Jean Bragg (late Jack), North Sydney, and Robert (Donna), Sydney Mines, N.S.; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and a wide circle of friends. He was predeceased by infant son, Kerry Lee. Interment was held at Beechwood Cemetery, Toronto, Ont. His infectious laugh, great sense of humour and tall 'fish stories' will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He always made sure you left with a smile on your face. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ David Allan Dobson Age 52 - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dave Dobson at home in Cull's Harbour, N.L., on Saturday, June 28, 2008, after a short illness. Left with loving memories are his wife of 26 years, Claudine (Burgess) and son, David; brothers, Jim (Esther) P.E.I.; Doug (Linda), Niagara Falls, Rick (Mary), Sydney; 12 nieces and nephews and a large circle of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Edna (Nichols) Dobson. Dave was employed with Parks Canada at Terra Nova Provincial Park, Newfoundland, for 25 years. A memorial service was held at the park on July 3, 2008. Family and friends will gather at St. Alban's Hall, St. Alban's Avenue, Whitney Pier, on Thursday, July 17 at 7 p.m. to celebrate Dave's life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in his memory. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ann Christine Ivany 81, Whitney Pier - With hope eternal and a great sense of loss, we announce the passing of a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Ann Christine Ivany of Whitney Pier. Ann was the loving wife and soulmate of the late Walter Ivany. She passed away at home on Tuesday, July 8, 2008, surrounded by her loving family. Mom was the daughter of the late Angus and Lena (Crane) Walker of Whitney Pier. Mom was employed for many years at MacGillivray Guest Home. Her deep sense of kindness and compassion for those entrusted to her care was evident to all. She was also very active in the St. John Ambulance Brigade; volunteering many hours at events. She embraced life in a very cheerful and outgoing way; she saw the good in all and as a result, made many fast and lifelong friends. Surviving are her loving daughters, Judy (David) Myatt, Halifax, Patricia Ivany, Linda (Norman) Williams, Debbie (Edward) Davis, each of Whitney Pier; her only son, Walter (Charlene), Baddeck; grandchildren, Ann, Mark Alishia, Matthew, Katie, Brent, Christa, Courtney and Emily; great-granddaughter, Madyson; many nieces and nephews and her loving canine companion, Angie. Also surviving are sisters, Elsie, Violet, Lena and Eleanor; brothers, Winston and David. Mom was predeceased by her loving husband of 61 years, Walter, brothers, Ira, Lloyd, George and Angus and sister, Catherine. In keeping with Mom's wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at St. Alban's Anglican Church, Friday, 2 p.m., with Rev. Stacey LeMoine officiating. Interment in Eastmount Cemetery. Cremation has taken place. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Eric (Hookie) Rideout 72, Neil's Harbour - It is with great sadness that we, the family of Eric Rideout, announce his passing at Neil's Harbour on July 9, 2008, in his 73rd year. Eric was a member of St. Andrew's Anglican Church and a long time employee of the Victoria Co-Op Fisheries, Neil's Harbour, the Department of Transportation and Communication of Cape North and a part-time lobster fisherman. He will be sadly missed by his loving family, sons, Glen (Madona), Dartmouth, Eric, Caledonia, Ont., and Weldon (Susan), Wilmot; daughters, Catherine (Robert) LeBlanc, Hamilton, Ont., and Wendy (Rick) Timson, Caledonia, Ont. Also surviving are grandchildren, Ashley, Ciara, Brandon, Mark, Randy, Thomas, Katelyn, Matthew and Jonathan, as well as sisters, Thelma (Wilfred) MacLeod and Lorraine. Eric was predeceased by his wife, Susan (Ingram), parents, Theodore and Martha (Sturgess) and his brother, Herman. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.
