Cape Breton Deaths July 25, 2008 Friday John Went 62, Ontario - John Went, son of Emil Went, passed away on July 11, 2008, in Forest, Ont., after a courageous battle with cancer. John was predeceased by his mother, Eileen and his special brother, Jamie, just 10 months ago. He is survived by his wife, Monique; sons, Jody, Jeff and several grandchildren, all of Ontario. Also by his father, Emil; sister, Marian (Paul) Vienneau and special nieces, Courtney, Dominion, and Linda (Richard), Thornhill, B.C., and nephews, Ken, Chris and Elric. Cremation has taken place as per John's wishes. John will be greatly missed by his family and many friends here and in Ontario. John's family will be celebrating his life Sunday, July 27, from 2-4 p.m. at the home of Marian and Paul Vienneau, 44 Church St., Dominion. Come share with us. 'Bob' MacLeod 78, Moncton/Sydney Mines - Bob MacLeod, age 78, a resident of Moncton, N.B., and formerly of Sydney Mines, passed away Dec. 21, 2007, in Moncton. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m., Monday, July 28, 2008, at Immaculate Conception Church, Sydney Mines, with Rev. Hughie MacNeil and Rev. Greg MacLeod officiating. Born in Grand Mira North, Dec. 12, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Dan D. and Rachel (Walker) Gillis. She was a member of St. Anthony Daniel parish. Surviving are her loving children, Donald (Charlene), Sydney, Helen (Russell) Long, Birch Grove; siblings, Mary Effie, Elizabeth, Angus, Dominic (Pat), all of Toronto, Ont. She is also survived by grandchildren, Dale, Leo, Deborah, Sydney, Donnette (Joe) Bren, Calgary; great-grandchildren, Ashton, Emily, Connor, Harlowe; also survived by several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Catherine 'Kaye' Gillis, Dorothy Chipman, Sydney. She was predeceased by her son, Leo, brothers, Donald Edward, Archie Sylvester and Joseph Anthony, grandchildren, Adam and Jennifer Rose, and her favourite nephew, Neil Edward Gillis. Annie was a beautiful seamstress and operated her own shop in Sydney for several years. She was a member of the Gaelic Society. She enjoyed dancing, singing and listening to Scottish music. Annie loved all animals, especially her horses. Her favourite pastime was playing cards, the organ and crossword puzzles. She was happiest at home with her family and friends and a good cup of tea. The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the staff at the Cove Guest Home for their loving care and kindness. Visitation will take place Friday, July 25 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m., Saturday, July 26 at St. Margaret's Church, Grand Mira South, with Fr.
