Cape Breton Deaths July 05, 2008 Saturday Robert Paul Duffney July 2, 1963-July 3, 2008 - Robert Paul Duffney passed away after a brief illness with cancer on Thursday, July 3, 2008, at St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto, the day after his 45th birthday. Robert Paul was born in South Bar to the late Jeremiah and Gertude Duffney. He is survived by two brothers, Jerry (Rozanne), Lingan, Martin (Nancy), New Waterford; and by three sisters, Vaunda (Robert Fyfe), Bracebridge, Ont., Therese (Tom Henderson), Three Mile Plains, N.S., and Bernadette, Iron Mines, N.S. Violet was born in Rose Blanche, N.L., on June 28, 1920, the daughter of the late Jacob and Olive (Courtney) Buffett, and resided most of her life in Alder Point. She was a member of the Northside Baptist Church, Halfway Road, Sydney Mines. She is survived by her three sons, Brian (Jocilyn), with whom she resided, Clifton (Nora), Joey (Louise); and three daughters, Sylvia (Fran) Jessome, Carol (Louis) Stubbert, Debby (Bobby) Woods; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Margie Deveaux, Lily (Gerald) Devoe, Magdaline Dick; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael, a son, Kevin, brothers, Gordon and Bill, half-brother, John Joe Arsenault and a sister, Miriam Dugas. Visitation for Violet will be held Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Born in North Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Patrick and Elizabeth (MacNeil) Prenty. Evelyn was a longtime resident of Mapleview Drive, living a quiet life with her husband, Angus. She was a woman of great faith and a devoted member of Our Lady Of Sorrows Church, North Sydney. She is survived by her brother, Ernest Prenty, North Sydney; and also by several nieces and nephews. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Angus, a brother, Patrick Prenty, three sisters, Marie and Ada Prenty and Kathleen Rowan, Boston. Born in Millville, N.L., she was the daughter of the late Afra and Catherine (Gillis) Gale. Dorothy was a member of St. Leonard Parish, Mount Carmel Church and a member of the New Waterford Pensioners' Club where she enjoyed a good game of cards with her friends. She also enjoyed a good dance. A faith-filled woman, Dot gave of herself unceasingly for family and friends. She was a wonderful mother and an exceptional grandmother and great-grandmother. Surviving are daughters, Rita (Rick) Hanes, Gail (Wayne) Power, both of New Waterford, Cathy (Dale) Caume, River Ryan; sons, Rev. Wadden at Victoria Haven Nursing Home, Thursday, July 3, 2008, at the age of 93, where she was a resident for the past year and half. She was a former resident of Dragatis Street, Glace Bay. Born in Broughton, Cape Breton, she was the daughter of the late Malcolm and Sarah (MacInnis) MacKenzie. Agnes graduated from the Glace Bay General Hospital in 1940 and nursed in the Veterans Hospital in Cornwallis for two years she than took a post graduate course in the Margaret Hague Hospital in New Jersey, U.S.A. Agnes then nursed at the Glace Bay General Hospital for 34 years and retired in 1979. She was a member of the Glace Bay General Hospital Alumnus Association. Agnes was a member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Glace Bay. Agnes is survived by her niece and nephew, Mabel and Blair Wadden, (her caregiver); along with many other nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, John V. Wadden, two sisters, Annie Hall and Mary Hobbs. Visitation for Agnes will be on Sunday, July 6, 2008, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Beloved wife of Stephen Richard Hurst and mother of Kristi-Jayne, Toronto, ON, Laurel, London, England, Jenna, Ottawa, ON, and Allison, Wolfville, NS.
