    3. Cape Breton Deaths July 24, 2008 Thursday Zena MacRae-Gilbert 43, Glace Bay - It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Zena Lynn Gilbert. She died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late Calvin and Dolores (Boutilier) Gilbert. Zena graduated from Morrison High School and continued her studies at Cape Breton University. She had a natural aptitude for singing and enjoyed entertaining her friends. Zena is survived by her children, Brandon and Kyle; her brother, Bradley (Kathy), Glace Bay; sisters, Ellen (Rodney) Emslie, Fall River, Lyndsey, Glace Bay; brothers, Tommy, Glace Bay, and Calvin, Halifax. She is also survived by special aunt Linda Aucoin, uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by grandparents, Joe and Jennie Gilbert, Jim and Mary Boutilier. Visitation Friday, July 25, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Curry's Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Saturday, July 26, 10 a.m. in St. Anthony's Church, Rev. 'Bob' MacLeod 78, Moncton/Sydney Mines - Bob MacLeod, age 78, a resident of Moncton, N.B., and formerly of Sydney Mines, passed away Dec. 21, 2007, in Moncton. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m., Monday, July 28, 2008, at Immaculate Conception Church, Sydney Mines, with Rev. Hughie MacNeil and Rev. Greg MacLeod officiating. Online condolences may be sent to info@wjdooley.com. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Meta Jane Boutilier 64, North Sydney - It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the death of Meta Jane Boutilier, nee Bradley, age 64, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Meta passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at the Northside General Hospital, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Olive (Bradley) Hardy. Meta worked for a period at both National Sea Products in North Sydney and Cara Food Services at the Marine Atlantic Terminal. She loved her summer trips to her trailer in Tarbot. She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, North Sydney. She is survived by her husband, Joseph; her daughter, Virginia (Charles) MacDonald, Halifax; and son, Stan Boutilier, North Sydney; very special grandson she raised, David (Rita) Boutilier. Also surviving is her grandson, Kyle Devoe and granddaughter, Isabella MacDonald and great-grandson, Dustin Steele; her sister, Robina (Dennis) Jessome, Ontario; and brothers, Brian (Marie) Hardy, North Sydney, Gordie (Lori) Hardy, Dartmouth, Jimmy (Patti) Hardy, Ontario. Besides her parents, she was predeceased a brother, Walter Bradley. Special thanks to Diane Boutilier, Wanda Ford, friends and family for their care, kindness and support, and the staff at both Cape Breton Regional and the Northside General hospitals. There will be no visitation by her request. A funeral mass for Meta will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 26 at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Online condolences may be sent to info@wjdooley.com. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Angus Nicholson 1939-2008 - We, the family of Angus Frederick Nicholson 'Gus', regret to announce his passing on Friday, July 18, 2008, after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Florence, Cape Breton, N.S., he was residing in Kitchener, Ont., for many years. He was the beloved son of the late Alexander H. and Violet Nicholson of Florence, Cape Breton, N.S. Remembered by his six children, William and Deborah (Joseph), Sydney Mines, Cape Breton, N.S., Michael, Edward and Alexander (Sara) of Western Canada, and James, Elora, Ont. Also remembered by and his five grandchildren. Also living to mourn his loss is one brother, Woodbury 'Nick' Nicholson; sisters, Mary Griffen (Steve), Barbara Nicholson (John L. Reid) and Sharon (Kathleen) Steenhuis, all of Kitchener, Ont. Gus was predeceased by his parents, a daughter in infancy and two sisters, Janet and Colleen. Resting at Schreiter-Sandrock Funeral Home and Chapel, Kitchener, Ont. (519-742-4481). Cremation had taken place with a private family service to follow in Cape Breton. Safe in the arms of Jesus ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Daniel Joseph MacNeil Age 57 - On July 18, 2008, Daniel Joseph MacNeil, (Dan the drummer), passed away peacefully at the Carpenter Hospice in Burlington, Ont., after a battle with cancer. Dan worked for Golden Windows for 22 years in Kitchener, Ont. He played in various bands in Nova Scotia as well as in Ontario. Dan had a great zest for life and all who he came in contact with. Music was one of his greatest passions next to his family. Through his battle, Dan hung on for the arrival of his first granddaughter, Ada Danielle, born June 29, 2008. He was predeceased by parents, Mary and Michael MacNeil and brother, Michael (Nick) MacNeil. Dan will be sadly missed by his daughters, April (Brendan) Glass, Leanne (Jason) MacNeil, Linda MacNeil and granddaughter, Ada Danielle Glass; sisters, Florence Chang, Glace Bay, and Charlene (Bill) Houlihan, Halifax; and many nieces and nephews. Daniel will be lovingly missed by his long time companion, Kymme Sun, Burlington. There was a family service at Smith's Funeral Home in Burlington, Ont. Cremation followed and interment took place at Williamsburg Cemetery, Kitchener, Ont. Collins, 90, died on Tuesday, July 22 in Middletown, N.Y. The daughter of the late John and Elizabeth MacDonald Campbell, she was born on Dec. 31, 1917, in Dominion, N.S. On April 12, 1959, she married Angus D. Collins of S.W. Margaree. She is survived by her husband, Angus as well as many nieces and nephews in both the United States and Canada. Burial will follow in Mount St. Mary's Cemetery in Flushing. www.applebee-mcphillips.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mark Charles Williston 51, Dartmouth - Mark Charles Williston, 51, of Dartmouth, N.S., passed away July 22, 2008, at QEII VG Site. Born in Chatham, N.B., he was the son of Carmen and the late Renée (VanMarsenille) Williston and stepmother, Nellie (Waye) Williston. Mark graduated from James M. Hill Memorial High School, Chatham in 1976 from where he started his electrical training and then continued to apprentice under local electricians to obtain his licence. Along with his cousin Kerry Williston, they travelled to Calgary on their motorcycles where Mark apprenticed and received his industrial electrical certification as well as his inter provincial licence. Mark returned to Nova Scotia in 1984 where he obtained employment with MT&T (Aliant) as a cable splicer. One of the things Mark loved was being outdoors where he enjoyed camping and fishing. Other than his family, Mark's biggest passion was computer programming in which he was self taught. His innate sense of curiosity enabled him to completely understand the inner working of any computer system. He was highly regarded by his peers at both his work and in the computer programming community. Survived by his wife, Wanda (Wojcik); daughter, Victoria, son, Kyle, both at home; his siblings, Lynn (Roger) Trueman, Tamworth, Ont.; Steven, Bridgewater, Wendy (Roger McKinnon) Williston, Nanaimo, B.C., Sandra (Bruce) Barnes, Navan, Ont.; as well as several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his grandparents, Helen and Alex Williston, Robert and Ada Waye, Camille and Jeanne D'arc VanMarsenille. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth from where a memorial service will be held 10 a.m., Saturday. Reception to follow in the funeral home with burial to take place in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Collins, 77, of ProTem Health Services and formerly of Dickson Boulevard, Moncton, N.B., with his family at his side, passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday morning, July 23, 2008. Born in Placentia, N.L., he was the son of the late Reginald and Mary (Hopkins) Collins. Joe was retired from Marine Atlantic (Systems Analyst) and attended Holy Family Roman Catholic Church. He was a life member of Holy Family Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree Member Msgr. Roy MacDonald Assembly. He was a former usher, Eucharistic minister, lector, sacristan, altar server and parish manager; former scout and cub leader; past district commissioner of Keltic District (Nova Scotia); former member of St. Pat's Family Centre board of directors and he was a former volunteer with many organizations in the local community. Joe will be sadly missed by his daughters, Gail Collins, Dartmouth, N.S., Carolyn Jessome (Derek), Lower Sackville, N.S.; sons, David (Catherine), Sydney Mines, N.S., Gerard (Suzanne), Moncton, N.B., Chris (Judy), Sherwood Park, Alta., Raymond (Michelle), Moncton, N.B.; grandchildren, Jonathan, Michael, Matthew, Christopher, Gail, Sean, Patrick, Meaghan, Daniel, Katelyn; great-granddaughter, Saoirse; sisters, Alice Cooper, St. John's, N.L., Rosemarie Mullins (Peter), Placentia, N.L.; brothers, Raymond (Patricia), William (Loretta), both of Placentia, N.L.; sisters-in-law, Anne Collins, Corner Brook, N.L., Theresa Collins, Placentia, N.L.; several nieces and nephews.
